Safety:

Before unpacking, installing, or performing any work on the
unit, carefully read and follow the operating instructions provided
in the manual. Always pay attention to safety advice and
warnings.

Assembly and Operation:

  1. Ensure the AHUs are securely mounted and fitted with protection
    guards suitable for the application before use.

  2. Use only as per design parameters and performance
    specifications indicated on the data plate.

  3. Installation, electrical, and mechanical maintenance should be
    done by qualified personnel.

Storage and Transport:

Store components in a dry, weather-protected place in their
original packaging. Cover open pallets with tarpaulin to protect
against dirt and maintain storage temperatures between -30°C and
40°C. Check bearings if stored for over a year before mounting.

Maintenance:

Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance. Refer
to the maintenance section in the manual for detailed instructions
on servicing the AHUs.

FAQ:

Q: Can the AHUs handle aggressive gases and fumes?

it is recommended to consult with engineers for specific
applications.

Q: What should be done before mounting components stored for

over a year?

A: Before mounting components stored for more than one year,
check the bearings by turning them by hand to ensure they are in
good condition for operation.

Safety advice
AIRTECHNIC Air Handling Units are produced in accordance with the latest technical standards and our quality assurance program which includes material and function tests ensure the final product is of high quality and durability. Nevertheless these fans can be dangerous if they are not used and installed correctly, according to our instructions.
Before installing and operating AHUs please, read the instructions carefully!
Only use fan and other components in modular AHUs after they have been securely mounted and fitted with protection guards to suit the application. Guards can be supplied for all fans in our program.
Installation, electrical and mechanical maintenance and service should only be undertaken by qualified personnel!
The modular AHUs must be used only according to its design parameters, taking into account its performance (data plate) and mediums passing through it!
2. DESCRIPTION
The EU-Box series AHUs are of modular construction and can be offered in any desired combination. The AHUs are used for heating, cooling, filtering and mixing air and also for heat recovery. With numerous unit sizes we are able to produce air volumes from 500 m3/h to 100.000 m3/h in standard series and also larger volumes in special conditions.

3. CONDITIONS OF USE
Centrifugal fans can be used for ventilation of :
clean air slightly dusty and greasy air slightly aggressive gases and fumes (please refer to our engineers) mediums up to a density of 1,3 kg/m3 mediums up to a max humidity of 95%.

4. STORAGE, TRANSPORT
Store components in a dry place and weather protected in its original packing (if available) :
Cover open pallets with tarpaulin and protect the fans against dirt (i.e. stones, splinters, wires, etc). Storage temperatures between -30 C and 40 C. For storage duration of more than one year please check bearings on soft running before mounting (turn by hand).
Forklifts and cranes can be used to transport modules. When employing a crane, straps must be fastened on the modules of the AHU (drawing 1). Use suitable assembling means such as scaffolds, in order to meet specifications.
Prior to lifting modules, lock all service and access doors.

5. ASSEMBLING – OPERATION

Installation and electrical connections must only be done by qualified and authorized personnel, in accordance with applicable regulations and the instructions of the manufacturer, designer or project’s engineer.

Before installing remove transport conerpieces (when available).
A.H.U. should be assembled on a rigid, flat surface and/ or other support structures.
The design and philosophy of the foundation should satisfy the acoustic requirements and drain the water coming from the drip eliminator and the humidifier, taking into account the height of the siphon, according the subpressure of the fan at its installation point.
When installing A.H.U. on noise reducing base between unit and foundation, apply the following procedure:
Using a marker, make a sketch outlining the complete unit on the foundation. Place rubber strips on the foundation according the outline. Place the assembled units onto the strips.
Vibration absorbers between the unit and the base are not required because there are internal ones.
The flexible connection between the duct and the unit must be loose when installed. Its length, after its placement and connection with the AHU and the airduct, should be less than its original maximum length in the stretched and disassembled state.
Unit modules must be assembled and placed before connecting them with the supplied connecting (or sealing) material (drawing 2).

The hinges of the inspection doors must be adjusted properly using the screws, as shown in the pictures below, in order for the door to fit properly and securely in the opening and there is no air leakage. Additional adjustment of the hinges may be required after moving the unit and during the first start- up.

All connections concerning electrical parts of the unit e.g. the motor for the fans, the pumps, the electric heating elements, the actuators, etc., must be in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and local regulations. The electric heating elements should also have a safety switch. This switch should be inspected after initial installation to ensure proper operation and then at long intervals.
During maintenance work on the unit, the electric heating coils should be freed from any foreign substance and cleaned whenever necessary. Also, for ground wires that may be present and are placed in flexible connections of the fan and ducts, it should be checked whether the installation has been done correctly and whether it is necessary to tighten them.

VENTILATOR SECTION
Electrical connections : They are made in accordance with : Technical connection regulations, local ordinances and international electrical codes. The power supply must be compatible with the data indicated on its technical characteristics plate.
The motor wiring must be done according to the electrical diagram in the junction box.
Electrical cables inside the unit should be firmly secured against mechanical impact or fan suction and be of sufficient length so that periodic belt and pulley tension adjustments are not impeded.
The motor should be protected from overloading through a protection switch. The thermal relays in the unit should be set with +10% of measured current, but not exceeding the rated current of the motor.

Prior to inspecting direction of rotation : Remove any foreign matter from fan.
Check impeller rotation by hand for smooth running. Install protection guards (accessories) or prevent easy access to fan. Start the unit for a short time to check the direction of rotation based on the direction arrow on the fan casing.

The motor can be overloaded when the fan rotates in the wrong direction.

Threephase A.C. motor. The direction of rotation can be reversed by changing the two phases.
Singlephase motor. Change direction of rotation if necessary by changing Z1 (black) and Z2 (orange) (change of current direction in secondary winding)
Preparing the fan for initial operation : Mechanical installation as specified. Electrical installation in accordance with current regulations. Remove foreign substances from the air inlet and outlet area, as well as from the inside of the fan.
Has the safe transport protection been removed from the ventilator frame? Is the tension on the belt and pulleys sufficient? (see maintenance)? Protection guards (accessories) are installed, there is no easy access to the fan, or the fan is installed out of reach.
Only commence operation when it is installed in accordance with applicable ordinances If the fan is started under free blow conditions, i.e. prior to connecting to ducting system, the current consumption may exceed the normal maximum (forbidden area of performance curve)!
The thermal protection of the motor may be activated!
Fan in operation. Observe correct function (smoothness of running, vibration, unbalance, current consumption in all three phases, and possible controllability).

With regular checks of the fan inlet, make sure that no dirt has accumulated on the bumper (if any) and, if necessary, clean it!

AIR DAMPERS
All screw fitting and connections must be checked for sufficient tightness. When utilizing an actuator, adjust the linkage so that a 90 swing angle is guaranteed and the shutters reach end position when closed.

Prepare Air Dampers for initial operation :
Mechanical components accordingly assembled? In case several dampers are connected, the linkage must be checked. All screw fittings and connections are to be checked for sufficient tightness.
Swing angle of 90 guaranteed (do dampers reach end position when closed)? Actuators properly connected (Manufacturers instructions)? Level and gears are free from interference
BAG FILTERS The filter elements to be fastened in frames using tension clamps. Check for air tight placing of filter in filter frame.
PANEL & NORM FILTERS The Z-Line filters are inserted into filter frame. Check for air tight placing of filer in the casing. Filter element must not be damaged (filter will be unstable).
HEATING COIL (with warm water) Caution! When connecting water pipes, properly connect water inlet and water outlet (in general reverse direction flow with water inlet located at air exit side) as in drawing 4.

COOLING COIL (with cold water) Caution! When connecting water pipes, properly connect water inlet and water outlet (in general reverse direction flow with water inlet located at air exit side), as in drawing 5.
According to acoustic demands, pipes are to be connected with or without elastic compensatory. Pipe connections above the Air Handing Unit must include a flange, allowing easy access to the coils during maintenance and paper

ENERGY RECOVERING SYSTEM
The most frequent energy regain system is that of plane plated air / air exchangers.

CAUTION! When tightening the pipes on the A.H.U’s coils and condensates, a second spanner must be used to hold the locknut.
If condensate, drain and overflow pipes exist, make sure externally located connections are connected to a siphon. The height of a siphon for low and excess pressure, must be appropriate for the Air Handing Unit, according to subpressure of the fan at this point, to prevent unwanted and unhealthy air from entering or exiting connected pipes. When connecting coils with screw thread on the pipes, all components must be properly supported to prevent damages.

Heating coil (PWW) preparation for initial operation :
Appropriate installation of all mechanical components and connecting pipes. Heating Coil during filling with water thoroughly deaerated. When necessary re-tighten connections (Installation).
For long periods of down time and especially during freezing conditions, the heating coil and connections should be emptied. Use compressed air to push out residual water and remove all drain plugs.
Cooling coil (PKW) preparation for initial operation :
Appropriate installation of all mechanical components and connecting pipes? Cooling Coil during filling with water thoroughly deaerated. When necessary re-tighten connections (Installation).
For long periods of down time and especially during winter (freezing conditions), the freezing piping and connections should be emptied. Use compressed air to push out residual water and remove all drain plugs.
If you don’ t want to do this, you must make provision for anti-freezing protection: closing of tampers or circulators’ operation at +5 C.

6. MAINTENANCE
Installation, service and electric work to be performed only by skilled and qualified personnel and in accordance to applicable regulations and manufacturers instructions.

Use only original spare parts manufactured and supplied by AIRTECHNIC. Use only commercial cleaning material paying attention to the prescribed safety measures and do not use any abrasive tools (surface protection will be destroyed).

Before any maintenance work is undertaken please :
Stop fan in accordance to regulations and disconnect all poles from mains supply.
Wait until impeller is stationary! Make sure that a restart is not possible! Prevent water from entering heat exchangers. Allow heat exchangers to cool down.

Cleaning ventilator module : Clean inlet opening Clean impeller (when necessary remove protection guard). Do not flood motor Do not bend impeller blades Install protection guard.
Inspecting belts and pulleys : The belts and pulleys should be observed regularly during initial operation. After 0,5 to 4 hours of full load operation and afterwards 24 operating hours the belts and pulleys should be checked if retensioning is necessary.
Remove belt protection. Check belts according to drawing 6. If necessary retension belts : 1. Loosen locking screw located on side of motor rail.
2. Tense belts by adjusting tensioning bolt as needed.
3. Fasten locking screw on motor rail. Install belt protection.
When replacing fan belts becomes necessary, loosen belt drive!

Measuring device with tension hook (A) placed in the middle of fan belt. Put drag indicator (B) in position. Raise profile dependent tested tension according to scale (C). Pull measuring device with right angled direction downwards. On scale (D) of drag indicator read depth of impression. If necessary adjust initial tension to preset depth impression (Ea).
Improper belt tension cannot guarantee flawless operation and will lead to premature failure of the belts. To much tension will damage ball bearings. When tensioning the belt, make sure belt deviation does not exceed 10 of side flush point.
General Inspection Bearing clearance too large? Bearing lubricant leaking? Surface affected (corrosive medium)? Unusual noises? Is fan performance for eventual canal system expansion sufficient?
AIR DAMPERS Periodically (every 3 months) check for: Performance. Dirt, soil or other foreign matter. Damages. Corrosion. Parts are firmly mounted. Moving components move smoothly and easy. As Necessary: Lubricate Bearings (Plastic Bearings do not require lubricating). Clean.

Badly soiled heat exchangers will be limited in their function and must be cleaned immediately. To clean the fins, use a vacuum, compressed air or a soft brush. Never use hard or sharp object to clean heat exchangers!
Drop eliminators which are soiled will lead to condensation passing through. To clean drop eliminator fins AIRTECHNIC recommends ROGALW.
