Usage Instructions

Before first use
Before using your toastie maker for the first time, unpack the appliance and remove all packaging, promotional materials and stickers from the product. Remove any plastic or cardboard and all printed documents. Wipe over plates with a dampened cloth and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Note: When using your toastie maker for the first time you may notice a fine smoke haze being emitted from the unit. This is normal. It is due to the initial heating of internal components.

Using your Toastie Maker

  1. Place your toastie maker on a flat, level, heat-resistant surface.

  2. Plug the power cord into a 230-240 volt AC power outlet.

  3. The red POWER light will automatically turn ON and will start pre-heating. Pre-heating will take approximately 2 minutes.

  4. The green READY light indicates that that the toastie maker is ready to cook.

  5. Butter one side of the bread. The sandwich filling will be placed between the unbuttered sides of the bread.

  6. Place the buttered side of the bread onto the cooking plate, then place the recommended quantity of filling onto the bread.

  7. Place the top slice of bread on top of the filling with the buttered side facing upwards.

  8. Gently close the lid until the two handles close together. Click the latch into position to keep the toastie maker securely closed during toasting. DO NOT FORCE THE LID CLOSED (if the lid is difficult to close you may have too much filling, or your bread slices may be too thick).
Note: Ensure that the cord is kept well away from the hot cooking plates when in use.

  9. Allow your sandwiches to toast for approximately 2½~3 minutes, depending on the bread, filling and personal taste. Your toastie maker toasts both slices of bread at the same time and seals in the filling.
If you have a Turbo Crunch Toastie Maker (GRM2100SS or GRM4100SS):

  10. Allow your sandwiches to toast for approximately 2 minutes, depending on the bread and filling.

  11. Push TURBO button firmly (till you hear a ‘CLICK’ and white light is on).

  12. Check on toasties till ready for perfect browning and maximum crunch.

  13. The READY light is thermostatically controlled and will cycle during cooking to ensure that the correct temperature is maintained. The green light will automatically turn ON when pre-heating is done and it is ready to cook. You may leave your toastie if you prefer to cook it longer.

  14. The cooking plates are coated with EasyCleanTM non-stick coating (on Express Melt Toastie Makers)/DuraCeramicTM coating (on Turbo Crunch Toastie Makers). Some fillings such as cheese may melt and cause the sandwich to stick to the cooking plates. To free the sandwich, use a heat-resistant spatula or wooden spoon. Never use a sharp or metal object, as this will damage the non-stick surface.
After using, unplug the toastie maker and let it cool down before storing.

  15. Your toastie maker features a cord wrap underneath enabling the product to be stored in the upright position.

  • Caution: Do not touch the outside or top of the unit when in use, as these surfaces may be hot. Ensure you use the handle to open and close the top plate. Avoid touching hot surfaces. The toastie maker may generate steam from between the cooking plates while food is cooking and when the top plate is opened. Take care when removing food from the toastie maker.
  • Caution: Do not overfill your toasties or have excess liquid ingredients (sauces, gravies, custards). This will result in overflow from the toastie maker. Toastie filling is hot and can scald.
  • Caution: During cooking, open the toastie maker slowly and carefully. Excess toastie filling may overflow and can scald.

FAQs

Q1: Why doesn’t the Turbo Light come on after I press the button?

Q2: Why does the Turbo Light come on right after I plug in the unit?

A2: The TURBO button was pushed before the toastie maker was turned on. You can choose to wait for approximately 2 minutes and start cooking, or until Turbo Light is off and Ready Light is back on if you do not wish to use Turbo function.

Q3: What does it mean when Turbo Light is on but Ready Light is off?

A3: It means Turbo function has been activated and the product is currently heating up to a higher temperature.

Q4: Can I cancel it if I pushed TURBO Button by accident?

A4: It is not possible to cancel Turbo immediately. Just turn the toastie maker on and wait for approximately 1 minute. The Turbo Light will go out and food can be then loaded.

Q5: Can I use TURBO twice/ multiple times during 1 cooking cycle?

A5: Yes. You will just need to wait for a little while after the Turbo Light goes off before pushing TURBO button again. The unit needs to cool down to normal heating temperature before TURBO can be activated again.

Q6: How long does one Turbo cycle last?

A6: The time required for one Turbo cycle varies depending on the bread, filling and ambient temperature.

Care & Cleaning

Use heat-resistant plastic or wooden or silicone utensils when cooking or lifting food from the toastie maker. Avoid using sharp or metal objects as these will scratch the coated surface. Do not cut food on top of the cooking surface. Do not leave plastic utensils in contact with the cooking surface while in use. Sunbeam will not be liable for damage to the coating where metal utensils have been used.

To clean after use
Always unplug your toastie maker and allow for it to cool completely before cleaning it. NEVER immerse the MAIN body, power cord or plug in water or any other liquid. To prevent damage to the appliance do not use alkaline cleaning agents when cleaning, use a soft cloth and a mild detergent. Do not place your toastie maker in a dishwasher. Always clean after each use to prevent a build up of cooking residue on the cooking plates. Cleaning the EasyClean™ Non-Stick Coating (on Express Melt Toastie Maker), or DuraCeramicTM Coating (on Turbo Crunch Toastie Maker) When cleaning with EasyClean™ non-stick coating (on Express Melt Toastie Maker) or DuraCeramicTM coating (on Turbo Crunch Toastie Maker), do not use metal or other abrasive scourer. When the plates have cooled down, you may wipe using a damp paper towel to remove residue on the toastie maker.

Easy clean up
The toastie maker’s cooking plate and handles are designed with no crumb traps to be easily and quickly wiped clean.

To clean the exterior
Simply wipe over with a dampened cloth and polish dry with a dry soft cloth. Do not use steel wool, scouring pads or abrasive cleaners as these will scratch the surface.

Storage
After the unit has cooled down and has been cleaned, you can store your toastie maker on your benchtop or in a safe place. Your toastie maker will store in an upright position in cupboards, shelves or on the benchtop. Simply bring the plates together and lock with the latch. Wrap the power cord underneath to securely and neatly store in an upright position.

Cooking Guide

Bread

  1. Any type of bread can be used, e.g. white, wholemeal, wholegrain, sourdough and gluten-free.
  2. Various thicknesses of bread can be used from thick to thin slice.
  3. Sweet breads with a high sugar content (e.g. fruit loaf, raisin bread, brioche) will brown more quickly than non-sweetened breads.

Caution: Be careful when biting into toasties containing fillings such as cheese, tomato or jam as they retain heat and can burn if eaten too quickly.

Pastry
Ready-made pastry sheets such as puff and shortcrusts are ideal for making quick and easy desserts.

  1. Simply place one-half of the pastry sheet onto the cooking plate of your pre-heated toastie maker.
  2. Place in your choice of filling.
  3. Top with remaining pastry and close the lid.
  4. Cook for 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.

Note: Always pre-heat before cooking for approximately 3-5 minutes. Wait for the READY light to turn on before cooking.
