Product Usage Instructions
Monitoring
- Follow facility policies for patient monitoring. Remove the protector at least every two hours for skin integrity, circulation, and range of motion checks.
Inspection
- Before each use, check for broken stitches or damaged material.
- Do not use soiled products. Clean hook material with a stiff brush.
Application Instructions
- Record the patient’s name on the ID label.
- Release all closures.
- Gently lower the foot into the protector.
- Attach calf straps to the opposing side.
- Do not use it as an elbow protector or walk with it on the foot.
Laundering Instructions
- The protector can be laundered. Secure all straps before washing.
Disposal
- Dispose of the product following facility guidelines for biohazardous materials.
Storage and Handling
- Store in normal indoor environments at ambient temperatures with normal humidity levels. Avoid excess moisture or high humidity.

PRO-heeLx® Heel Protector
- The Posey PRO-heeLx Heel Protector offloads patient heels for the prevention or treatment of heel pressure ulcers.
- Continuous 2” (5 cm) heel suspension, which helps provide maximum heel ulcer prevention or treatment for your patient.
- Ortho-Wick™ inner liner material for moisture management and patient care and comfort.
- The outer fabric is made of breathable nylon, allowing moisture and heat to migrate away from the foot and reducing friction and shear to the lower extremities.
- Four easily adjustable durable straps and reinforced padded sides reduce the risk of foot drop.
- Posey quality construction allows the PRO-heeLx to be laundered and it will maintain its shape and resiliency.
- Small, medium, and large sizes are available to customize fit for any patient type.
- An optional stabilizer wedge (6219) is available to help prevent lateral foot and leg rotation.

Monitoring
- WARNING Be sure to follow your facility’s policies and guidelines for the frequency of patient monitoring. Posey recommends that this product be removed at least every two (2) hours to check for skin integrity, proper circulation, and range of motion.
Inspection
- WARNING Inspect before each use: check for broken stitches; or torn, cut, or frayed material. DO NOT use soiled or damaged products. Clean lint from “hook” material with a stiff brush for a secure application.
Application Instructions
- Record the patient’s name on the ID label (Fig. 1).
- Release all hook and loop closures.
- Gently lower the patient’s foot into the protector (Fig. 2).
- Attach the calf straps to the opposing side (Fig. 3). The straps should be applied securely to ensure that the protector cannot be easily removed from the patient’s lower leg.
- For foot drop control, crisscross the upper straps over the patient’s foot and secure them to the top and sides of the protector (Fig. 4) or down the side (Fig. 5).
- Use two fingers to ensure there is adequate clearance between the straps and the patient’s foot, and that they are not overtightened (Fig. 6).
- Place fingers through the heel opening to ensure that the heel is properly isolated (Fig. 7). Adjust straps if necessary.
- Securely attach the hook side of the wedge to either side of the PRO-heeLx to prevent lateral foot and leg rotation (Fig. 8).
Do not use a heel protector as an elbow protector. Do not walk while wearing the protector on the foot.
Laundering Instructions
The protector can be laundered and will maintain its shape and resiliency. Secure all straps before laundering.
Disposal
Properly dispose of the product per the facility’s policy for BIOHAZARDOUS materials.
