SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Children must not play with the device
- Cleaning and user maintenance may not be carried out by children without supervision.
- Use this product only for its designated purpose!
- Do not manipulate or disassemble the device!
- For your own safety, only use accessories and spare parts that are stated in these instructions or that are recommended by the manufacturer!
- The warning triangle sign indicates all instructions which are important for safety. Always follow these otherwise you could injure yourself or damage the device.
- Only connect the device to a power socket installed according to regulations. The voltage must correspond to the specifi cation on the type plate of the device.
- Do not trap the power cable and protect it from sharp edges, damp, heat or oil. The power cable of the unit cannot be replaced. In the event that the cable is damaged, the unit must be disposed of.
- Do not operate the device or immediately pull the plug if it is damaged or you suspect it may be defective. In this case, contact our technicians.
- Pull the mains plug when the device is not being operated.
- Keep packaging materials, especially plastic and plastic bags, away from children. Risk of suffocation.
- Remove all plastic from the device before use.
- Place the mains cable in such a manner that it does not impede and that it cannot be unplugged accidentally.
- Disconnect the battery charger from the power supply after the charging process. Keep the charger in a place that cannot be accessed by children or unauthorised persons.
- Do not operate the device close to combustible material or in an explosive environment. Always wear suitable working clothes, protective gloves and goggles. Battery acid is corrosive! Immediately rinse any acid splashes with lots of water and consult a physician, if required. If battery acid gets into the eyes, immediately rinse under running water for at least 10 minutes and consult a doctor.
- Batteries may not be tilted, as acid may leak from the degassing openings.
- Do not cover the charger, keep the ventilation openings clear, otherwise the charger may overheat and be damaged. Never set the charger up for operation on a surface that is insulating (e.g. polystyrene). There is a risk of heat built up!
- If you wish to charge a vehicle battery in the installed state, first park the vehicle safely, put on the parking break and switch off the ignition. Cut the battery off from the on-board network of your vehicle. To do this, read the manual of your vehicle or ask your specialist workshop.

CHARGING A BATTERY
-
PREPARATION
- Clean the battery poles to remove dust and corrosion residue.
- Only for open batteries: Only Remove the sealing plugs from the battery cells. Replenish distilled water up to the minimum fill level. Leave the cells of the battery open until the end of the charging process.
- In case of maintenance-free batteries, please follow the instructions of the battery manufacturer to the letter.
-
CONNECTING THE BATTERY CHARGER
-
Clean the battery poles to remove dust and corrosion residue.
-
CAUTION
Make sure that the charger is not connected to the mains socket and that the mains switch (position 8 in the overview) is set to “OFF”. Always connect the red positive cable (+) (Position 9 in the overview) of the charger to the positive pole of the battery first. Subsequently, connect the black minus cable (-) (Position 10 in the overview) to the negative pole of the battery . -
We recommend not charging the battery in the installed state. When charging, acid splashes are unavoidable. The acid will attack paint and other components of the vehicle. If the battery is connected to the vehicle, the vehicle electronics may be damaged. Observe the instructions from the vehicle man-ufacturer.
-
If you are charging the battery when it is installed, disconnect it from the vehicle’s electrical system. To do this, read the operating instructions of your vehicle or ask your specialist workshop.
-
Always connect the red positive cable (+) (Position 9 in the overview) of the charger to the positive pole of the battery first. Then connect the black negative cable (-) to the car body (exposed part), far away from the battery, the carburettor and fuel lines. Always maintain this sequence.
-
Now plug the mains plug (position 1 in the overview) into the socket.
-
-
SETTING THE BATTERY CHARGER
- First use the selector switch (position 5 in the overview) to set the voltage suitable for your battery, 12/24 V
- Use the selector switch (position 7 in the overview) to set whether the battery should be charged slowly or quickly.
- MIN (slow) – BOOST (fast)
- Refer to the operating instructions of your battery to determine the charging current with which it can be charged. For small batteries, up to 20 Ah, charging should be done with “MIN”. The adjustable charging currents are listed in chapter 3. Specifications.
-
CHARGING PROCESS
Start the charging process by pressing the power switch (position 8 in the overview) to “ON”. The current charging current can be read on the ammeter (position 2 in the overview).- The charging current drops during the course of charging. When the charging current approaches zero, the battery is fully charged. In order to prevent overloading damages to the battery, the charging current of the battery must be constantly monitored.
- The charging duration of the battery to be charged depends on a number of factors, for example, the capacity of the battery, the ambient temperature, the charging state, the performance of the charger, etc. The exact charging state of the battery can only be determined with a battery acid tester (battery acid density meter) which enables you to measure the specific density of the electrolyte fluid. The following values apply (kg/l at 20 °C):
- 1.28 ≙ charged battery
- 1.21 ≙ battery half charged
- 1.14 ≙ discharged battery
- Do not leave the device unattended during charging!
-
REMOVING THE CHARGER
- Set the power switch to the “OFF” position.
- CAUTION
- First pull the plug out of the socket and observe the sequence for disconnection. This prevents sparks from forming. Since charging generates a detonating gas, this is particularly important for the sake of your safety.
- Disconnect the charger from the mains power supply. Next, remove the black negative (-) cable. Now, remove the red positive cable (+) from the positive pole of the battery.
- Let the battery cool down.
Only for open batteries: Fill the cells with distilled water up to the level specified by the battery manufacturer. Close the battery cells with the stoppers.
-
TROUBLESHOOTING
-
IN CASE OF SHORT CIRCUIT
The green 30 A fl =at fuse can blow if the pole clamps touch each other when the unit is switched on.
In this case, switch the battery charger off and disconnect the mains plug from the socket. Pull the fuse out of the holder and replace it with a new, equivalent fuse. -
IN CASE OF OVERVOLTAGE
In the event of overvoltage in the power supply system, the 5 A glass fuse may blow. In this case, switch off the battery charger and disconnect the mains plug from the socket. Unscrew the fuse holder. Replace the fuse with a new equivalent one -
OTHER FAULTS
If other faults or defects occur, contact our customer service department (see section 9) or consult a specialist electrical workshop.
Never open the device yourself to attempt to repair it. This is potentially fatal!
MAINTENANCE AND CARE
-
