Product Usage Instructions

Selecting and Securing Sites

Select the best sites for sensor and infusion set insertion. For the GuardianTM 4 sensor, wear it on the back of the upper arm. Choose a flat spot without scar tissue that won’t interfere with clothing. Avoid using lotions, creams, or aerosols before insertion as it may affect adhesive sticking. Prepare the site with alcohol for better adhesion. Hold the site down with two fingers when removing the needle from the sensor or infusion set.

Additional Tape for Security

If sweating more or wearing summer clothing that exposes sites, consider using additional tape. For CGM, apply two Oval Tapes as directed and add an extra overtape on top.

Summer Precautions

Understand water guidelines for device use during water activities. Be cautious with skincare products that can damage the pump case. Wash hands before handling the pump if using products like sunscreen or lotion that may touch the pump.

Sun, fun, and diabetes

Live your best summer life with your insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (CGM)

Select the best sites.

  • Insert your sensor and infusion set in their approved locations. If you use the Guardian™ 4 sensor, wearing it in the back of the upper arm plays a big part in providing the best possible experience.
  • Keep the site secure by selecting a spot that is flat, doesn’t have scar tissue, and won’t interfere with summer clothing

Secure your sites

  • Avoid using lotions, creams, or aerosols (like sunscreen), until after insertion and taping are done, as this may make it harder for the adhesive to stick.
  • Help the adhesive better stick to your skin by preparing your site with alcohol.
  • After insertion, when removing the needle from the sensor or infusion set, hold the site downwith two fingers so that it stays in place.
  • Consider an additional piece of tape if you find that you’re sweating more, or summer clothing has your sites more exposed. For your CGM, first apply the two pieces of Oval Tape as directed, and then add the additional piece of overtape on top

Take extra precautions on summertime adventures

By air:

  • ✓ Wear your full system in an airport metal detector or alternate screening, like a pat-down.
  • ✕ Don’t go through the full-body scanner with a pump, infusion set, sensor, or transmitter.
  • ✕ Don’t put your insulin pump through the baggage X-ray.

By car:

  • ✓ Pack plenty of emergency supplies for road trips or overnight stays.
  • ✓ Store insulin at the temperature recommended by your insulin manufacturer.
  • ✓ Don’t leave a device or supplies in a hot car, or in direct sunlight by a pool or beach

No matter how you travel, keep a close eye on your glucose because stress, activities, foods, and time zones can all affect you. If changing time zones, talk to your healthcare team about when to update the time on your pump

If summer activities include some splish-splash…

Know the water guidelines for your device.

  • Insulin pump: MiniMed™ 700-series insulin pumps are waterproof at the time of manufacture and when the reservoir and tubing are properly inserted. These pumps are protected up to 12 feet (3.6 meters) for up to 24 hours.
  • CGM: After the transmitter and sensor are connected, they form a waterproof seal to a depth of 8 feet (2.4 m) for up to 30 minutes. Shower and swim without removing them. CGM readings may not be transmitted from the CGM to the pump while in water. See the user guide for more details.

Take care of your skincare.

Did you know? Some skin care products, like sunscreen, lotion, and insect repellents, can damage the plastic on the pump case. After using these, wash your hands before handling your pump. If the product touches the pump, wipe it off with a damp cloth and mild soap.

Since your summertime plans are unique to you, speak with your healthcare team for specifics regarding your care.

Medtronic Diabetes Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Systems

The information provided by CGM systems is intended to supplement, not replace, blood glucose information obtained using a home glucose meter. A confirmatory fingerstick is required prior to treatment. Insertion of a glucose sensor may cause bleeding or irritation at the insertion site. Consult a physician immediately if you experience significant pain or if you suspect that the site is infected. For more information, please visit MedtronicDiabetes.com/ISI. The Guardian™ 4 sensor is intended for use with the MiniMed™ 780G system and the Guardian 4 transmitter to monitor glucose levels for the management of diabetes. The sensor is intended for single use and requires a prescription. The Guardian™ 4 sensor is indicated for up to seven days of continuous use.  The Guardian™ 4 sensor is not intended to be used directly to make therapy adjustments while the MiniMed™ 780G is operating in manual mode. All therapy adjustments in manual mode should be based on measurements obtained using a blood glucose meter and not on values provided by the Guardian™ 4 sensor. The Guardian™ 4 sensor has been studied and is approved for use in patients ages 7 years and older and in the arm insertion site only. Do not use the Guardian™ 4 sensor in the abdomen or other body sites including the buttocks, due to unknown or different performance that could result in hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.
