Puritan Bennett 980 Ventilator NIV Plus Software

The Puritan Bennett™ 980 ventilator includes NIV+ software. It works with Neo Mode 2.0 software to provide a NIV+ calibration function on the Puritan Bennett™ 980 ventilator’s more settings screen. This NIV+ calibration is supplemental to but not a substitute for the SST.

KEY FEATURES

The NIV+ software is designed to measure end inspiratory and end expiratory pressures at the patient interface. This provides valuable information to the clinician and may reduce the uncertainty around effective pressure delivery to the patient. It also provides a robust means of determining disconnect, especially when leaks are present. The NIV+ software:

  • Includes interface calibration for prongs and mask
  • Provides monitored data values that reflect end inspiratory (PI END IF) and end expiratory (PEEPIF) pressures on the patient side of the NIV interface
  • Assesses efficiency of neonatal ventilation with varying interfaces

PERFORMING AN INTERFACE CALIBRATION

  1. Ensure the Puritan Bennett™ 980 ventilator is in the “Waiting for patient connect,” “Stand-by,” or “Disconnect”.

  2. With the NIV ventilation type selected, touch the More Settings tab.

  3. Touch the Calibrate button for the NIV Interface Cal.

  4. Remove the proximal flow and ETCO2 sensors from the patient connection port of the breathing circuit. Make sure the port is open to the air.

  5. Connect the neonatal NIV interface to the breathing circuit.

  6. Position the NIV interface similarly to how it will be positioned on the patient

This guide is provided as a convenience companion document to the Operator’s Manual and the IFU. It is not intended to replace the Operator’s Manual or the IFU, which should always be available while using the ventilator. It is important to familiarize yourself with all information in the Operator’s Manual relevant to your institution’s use of the ventilator, including on- screen help instructions, warnings, and cautions.
