OBD II diagnostics

Reading out fault codes
There are two types of fault codes:

  • “Hard codes” or “Permanent codes” are faults that activate the check engine light on the dashboard when an emission-related fault is detected.
  • “Pending codes” are faults detected during the current or last completed driving cycle. These codes will be cleared during the next drive should the faults not reoccur. These faults do not activate the check engine light on the dashboard.

Select [Read Codes] with buttons up (6) and down (7), and then press the OK button (2).

If no fault codes are stored, the display (1) shows “No (pending) codes are stored in the module!”. If this happens, wait a few seconds or press any button to return to the menu. If fault codes are stored, the display will appear as follows:

Clearing fault codes

Shut off the engine before clearing the fault codes. Before executing this function, make sure the fault codes are retrieved and recorded. After clearing the fault codes, restart the fault code query to display the faults that are still present. If any of the displayed fault codes are related to severe problems, please find the reason for the fault code and then fix the problem. You can then permanently erase the fault codes.

  • Select [Erase Codes] with buttons up (6) and down (7), and then press the OK button (2).VOLTCRAFT-VC-OBD-9770-OBD-II-Car-Diagnostic-Tool-FIG-28
