Introduction

The PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT Heat Management System conveys warm air from the fireplace through an air duct to a remote location in the same room or another room in
the building.

The PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT accessory is carefully engineered and must be installed only as specified. If it or any of its components are modified, the warranty will be
voided. Modification may also cause a fire hazard.

The PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT accessory is tested and safe when installed in accordance with this installation manual. It is your responsibility to read all instructions before
starting installation and to follow these instructions carefully during installation.

Installation of this kit MUST be performed by a qualified service technician. Installation MUST comply with local, regional, state and national codes and regulations.

CAUTION! Failure to install, operate, and maintain the heat management system in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions will result in conditions which may
produce bodily injury and/or property damage.

Approvals

The PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT air duct kit is for use only on approved Hearth and Home Technologies gas fireplaces. The flexible duct is manufactured and marked to the
requirements of UL-181, Class I air duct.

Acceptable Air Register Locations

The PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT Heat Management System can be located in the same room or another room in the same building. The air register may be installed in the same area as the appliance, or one building level directly above or below the appliance if venting length allows. See Figure 1.

Preparation

Plan the location of the PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT air duct run prior to installation of the appliance.

Prepare the appliance as noted in the appliance Installation Manual Section 6.B. before beginning installation of the PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT accessory. See Figure 1 for
configuration.

Determine the location for the air register. The PRIMOHEAT-DUCT accessory allows for a maximum of 25 feet of ducting to be used to connect the air register to the appliance.
The air register must be:

  • A minimum of 3 ft from the appliance opening
  • Oriented so that the warm air is NOT directed toward the front of the appliance.

NOTICE: Additional clearances are required for heat management systems installations. A minimum clearance of 18 inches to any combustible materials or combustible
surfaces such as room furnishings, furniture, curtains, etc., is required from the air outlet. Plan for this clearance prior to installation of the PRIMO- HEAT-DUCT kit.

PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT Configuration

Clearances

Clearance – Sprinkler to PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT Air Register

Figure 2 references the clearances that must be adhered to when installing a sprinkler head near a PRIMO-HEATDUCT air register.

  • If the distance from the top of the PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT register to the ceiling is 36 in. (914 mm) or greater, then there is no 36 in. (914 mm) clearance requirement. Thisis for a ceiling sprinkler head installation only.

Note: When installing a sprinkler head near a heat discharge opening, it is recommended to use a sprinkler head with an Extra High sprinkler activation temperature rating.

  • When installing a sprinkler head exterior of the chase, maintain the following clearances to the PRIMO-HEATDUCT air register: 36 in. (914 mm) top, 18 in. (457 mm) sides and 6 in. (152 mm) bottom.

Installation

CAUTION! Do not install damaged components

If any parts are missing or damaged, contact your dealer before starting installation. DO NOT install a damaged kit.

1. If not already completed, attach collar and collar gasket to appliance as shown in Section 6.B of the Appliance Installation manual.
2. Install flex duct over the collar on the appliance and use provided gear clamp in this kit to secure. Insert a self-tapping screw through the flex duct, above the
gear clamp, into the collar to ensure the venting does not become detached. See Figure 4.

3. Install the duct boot to the predetermined location by attaching the duct boot flange to the framing using at least two screws or nails, one in each top and bottom
flange respectively. See Figure 5.
4. Route the flex duct from the collar on the appliance to the duct boot. Ensure there is no excess flex duct present in the vent run which would inhibit air flow.
Verify the flex duct is properly supported and there are no kinks in the venting.

WARNING! Risk of Fire! DO NOT fold/kink/pinch/obstruct 6 inch flexible ducts. Appliance could overheat.

Note: Install sufficient strapping to support flex duct.

5. Install flex duct over the collar on the duct boot and use provided gear clamp to secure. Insert a selftapping screw through the flex duct, below the gear clamp, into the collar to ensure the venting does not become detached.

CAUTION! Risk of Overheating! Tape seams to prevent overheating and shut down of appliance.

6. Install the Register Cover temporarily with the two provided screws. This will need to be removed when installing wall finishing material, and then re- installed
afterward. See Figure 6.

Operation

The PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT Heat Management System is powered by the appliance convection fan.
The PRIMO-HEAT-DUCT operates automatically any time the fireplace is turned on. The louvers on the register can be opened or closed using the lever on the register.

Note: When the louvers are closed, around 25% of the heated air from the appliance will still flow through the air register into the room.

Painting

If desired finishing includes painting of the register cover and screws, 100% acrylic latex paint with compatible primer is recommended.

Maintenance

Service and maintain the gas fireplace per instructions. Keep the air register(s) clean and free of any blockage.
