SAFETY INFORMATION

For the proper use, maintenance and storage of this battery, it is important that you read and understand the instructions and warnings given in this manual.

Failure to follow the warnings and instructions below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

  • Do not probe the charger with conductive materials.
  • If the battery pack case is cracked or damaged, DO NOT insert into the charger. Replace the battery pack.
  • Use only with Greenworks Battery Charger (2901402).
  • Do not allow liquid inside the charger.
  • Do not try to use the charger for any other purpose than what is presented in this manual
  • Have servicing performed by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts.
  • This will ensure that the safety of the product is maintained.
  • Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

WARNING

If the battery fluid gets in your eyes, flush immediately with clean water for at least 15 minutes.
Get immediate medical attention. Do not charge the battery pack in rain or in wet conditions. Do not immerse the tool, battery pack, or charger in water or other liquid.

SAFETY NOTES AND PRECAUTIONS
  1. Do not disassemble the battery.
  2. Keep battery out of reach of children.
  3. Do not expose the battery to water or salt water, and should place the battery in cool and dry environment.
  4. Do not place the battery in high-temperature locations, such as near a  fire,heater, etc.
  5. Do not reverse the positive terminal and the negative terminal of the battery. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
  6. Do not knock, strike, step on the battery.
  7. Do not solder directly onto the battery and pierce the battery with nails or other edge tools.

WARNING

To avoid risk of fire, electric shock, or electrocution:

  • Do not use a damp cloth or detergent on the battery or battery charger.

  • Always remove the battery pack before cleaning, inspecting, or performing any maintenance on the tool.

  • Do not allow the battery pack or charger to overheat. If they are warm, allow them to cool down.
    Recharge only at room temperature. When charging, make sure temperature is between 0-40°C (32-104°F), -20-45°C(-4-113°F) for discharge.

  • Keep the ventilation slots of the charger clear.

  • Do not allow small metal items or material such as steel wool, aluminum foil, or other foreign particles into the charger cavity.

  • Unplug the charger before cleaning and when there is no battery pack in the cavity.

  • Do not place the battery pack in the sun or in a warm environment. Keep at normal room temperature.

  • Do not try to connect two chargers together.

  • • If the battery will not be used for 3 months or more, please store the battery in a room temperature environment. Please fully charge before storage.

  • If the outer seal is broken and the leakage gets on your skin:

    • Use soap and water to wash immediately.
    • If leakage gets in your eyes, follow instructions above and seek medical attention.
    • Neutralize with lemon juice, vinegar, or other mild acid.

CHECKING BATTERY CAPACITY

Note: The battery is not shipped fully charged. It is recommended to fully charge before first use to ensure that maximum run time can be achieved. This lithium-ion battery will not develop a memory and may be charged at any time. A fully discharged battery pack will require approximately 30 minutes to fully charge from a discharged state

Press the battery capacity indicator (BCI) button. The lights will illuminate according to the batteries current power level. See chart below:

CAUTION

Do not use strong solvents or detergents on the plastic housing or plastic components. Certain household cleaners may cause damage and may also cause a shock hazard.

ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE BATTERY DISPOSAL

The following toxic and corrosive materials are in the batteries used in this tool battery pack: Li-ion, a toxic material.

WARNING

All toxic materials must be disposed of in a specified manner to prevent contamination of the environment. Before disposing of damaged or worn out Lithium-ion battery packs, contact your local waste disposal agency, or the local Environmental Protection Agency for information and specific instructions. Take the batteries to a local recycling and/or disposal centre, certified for Li-ion disposal.

WARNING

If the battery pack cracks or breaks, with or without leaks, do not recharge it and do not use. Dispose of it and replace with a new battery pack. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR IT! To avoid injury and risk of fire, explosion, or electric shock, and to avoid damage to the environment:

  • Cover the battery’s terminals with heavy-duty adhesive tape.
  • DO NOT attempt to remove or destroy any of the battery pack components.
  • DO NOT attempt to open the battery pack.
  • If a leak develops, the released electrolytes are corrosive and toxic. DO NOT get the solution in the eyes or on skin, and do not swallow it.
  • DO NOT place these batteries in your regular household trash.
  • DO NOT incinerate.
  • DO NOT place them where they will become part of any waste landfill or municipal solid waste stream.
  • Take them to a certified recycling or disposal centre.
  • Do not use a battery pack that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion or risk  of injury.

CHARGING PROCEDURE

NOTE: The battery is not shipped fully charged. It is recommended to fully charge before first use to ensure that maximum run time can be achieved. This lithium-ion battery will not develop a memory and may be charged at any time.

Low voltage charging:
If the battery has been stored with little to no charge for a long period of time, the charger will go into recovery mode, which will take 20 hrs to fully charge the battery. This will enhance the life of the battery. Once it is fully charged, the next charge will return to standard charging.

A fully discharged battery pack will require approximately 30 minutes to fully charge from a discharged state. Plug the charger into an AC power outlet.

  • Insert the battery into the charger.

This is a diagnostic charger. The Charger LED Lights will illuminate in specific order to communicate the current battery status. They are as follows:

False defect note:
When the battery is inserted into the charger and the status LED blinks RED, remove the battery from  the charger for 1 minute, then reinsert. If the status LED blinks GREEN, then the battery is properly charging. If the status LED is still blinking RED, remove the battery and unplug the charger for 1 minute. After 1 minute, plug in the charger and reinsert the battery. If the status LED  blinks GREEN, then the battery is properly charging. If the status LED is still blinking RED, the battery is defective and needs to be replaced.

CHECKING THE CHARGE

If the battery pack does not charge properly:

  • Check the current at the power outlet with another tool. Make sure that the outlet is not turned off.
  • Check that the charger contacts have not been shorted by debris or foreign material.
  • If the air temperature is above 100ºF or below
  • Be sure voltage selector is in correct voltage position before plugging in.
  • For use in the U.S.A., the voltage selector switch must be placed in the 120 volt position. For use in countries other than the U.S.A., the voltage selector may need to be placed in other than the 120 volt position. Confirm the voltage available at each country location before using the product.
  • This power unit is intended to be correctly orientated in a vertical or floor mount position 45ºF, move the charger and battery pack to a room temperature location.

WARNING

If the battery is inserted into the charger when warm or hot, the CHARGING LED indicator light on the charger may switch on and illuminate RED. If this occurs allow the battery to cool inside of the charger for up to 30 minutes. Charging should automatically start once battery has cooled.

CHARGER MOUNTING
  1. This charger can be installed hanging on a wall using two #8 screws (not included ).
  2. Locate the placement for the charger to be wall mounted.
  3. If fastening to wood studs use 2 wood screws(not included ).
  4. Drill two holes on center 4.5 in. apart ensuring that they are vertically aligned.
  5.  If fastening to drywall use wall anchors (not included) and screws to secure the charger to the wall.

Note: If the battery and the charger won’t be used for a long time, remove the battery from the charger and pull out the AC power plug.

In order to avoid personal injury and the risk of fire and electric shock, remove the battery before adjusting, inspecting, or cleaning the battery.

CAUTION

RISK OF INJURY. CHARGE ONLY RECHRGEABLE BATTERY PACK 2901302/ 2902402/ 2902502, OTHER TYPES OF BATTERIES MAY BURST CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY AND DAMAGE.

CLEANING

Remove the battery

  • Brush or blow dust and debris out of the air vents using compressed air or a vacuum. Keep the air vents free of obstructions. Do not spray, wash, or immerse the air vents in water.
  • Wipe off the housing and the plastic components using a dry, soft cloth. Do not use strong solvents or detergents on the plastic housing or plastic components. Certain household cleaners may cause damage and may cause a shock hazard.

Battery

  • Fully charge the battery.
  • Once the charging light turns green, remove the battery from the charger and disconnect the charger from the outlet.
  • After charging, the battery may be stored in the charger as long as the charger is not plugged in.

  1. This device may not cause harmful interference.
  2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

LIMITED WARRANTY

GREENWORKS™ battery hereby warranties this product, to the original purchaser with proof of purchase, for a period of two (2) years against defects in materials, parts or workmanship.

GREENWORKS™ charger hereby warranties this product, to the original purchaser with proof of purchase, for a period of two (2) years against defects in materials, parts or workmanship.

GREENWORKS™, at its own discretion will repair or replace any and all parts found to be defective, through normal use, free of charge to the customer. This warranty is valid only for units which have been used for personal use that have not been hired or rented for industrial/ commercial use, and that have been maintained in accordance with the instructions in the owners’ manual supplied with the product from new.

ITEMS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY:

  1. Any part that has become inoperative due to misuse, commercial use, abuse, neglect, accident, improper maintenance, or alteration; or
  2. The unit, if it has not been operated and/or maintained in accordance with the owner’ manual; or
  3. Normal wear, except as noted below;
  4. Routine maintenance items such as lubricants, blade sharpening;
  5. Normal deterioration of the exterior finish due to use or exposure.
