Package contents

  • Refrigerator water filter(s) (1 or 2 pack)
  • Quick Setup Guide

Installing your filter

  • It is normal for black carbon particles to appear on the outside of your new filter during shipping. Simply wipe it away before installation.
  • This water filter is designed to prevent leaks. Please twist in place securely to ensure a proper fit.
  1. Unlatch the plastic filter cover on the refrigerator and let it swing down.

  2. Rotate the old filter 1/4 turn counterclockwise, then pull it straight out.

  3. Push the new filter into the refrigerator until it stops, then rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise.
Note: Filter connections are larger to prevent leaks. You may need to twist the filter hard to make sure that the connection is secure.

  4. Swing the plastic filter cover up until it snaps closed.

  5. Reset your refrigerator’s “change filter” light (if it has one). See “Resetting your change filter indicator” for more information.

  6. Run two gallons (7.6 L) to three gallons (11.3L) of water through your refrigerator to remove air and loose carbon pieces.

Before using your filter
If your refrigerator has a change filter indicator, reset it. See “Resetting your filter indicator” for instructions.

Resetting your filter indicator

Note: These are the most common filter reset instructions. If the instructions don’t work for your refrigerator brand, see the documentation that came with your refrigerator.
Amana® / Maytag®: Press and hold the dispenser lock and auto light buttons at the same time until the filter indicator flashes (about four seconds).
OR
Press and hold the dispenser lock and water buttons at the same time until the filter indicator flashes (about four seconds).
Kitchenaid®: Press the light switch five times within ten seconds. If the fridge has a filter button, press and hold it for 5-10 seconds.
Sears® / Kenmore®: The water filter reset for Sears/Kenmore refrigerators varies by model. See the documentation that came with your refrigerator.

Storage and maintenance

  • Replace your filter every three to six months to prevent bacteria and fungus growth in your filter, supply lines, and storage tank.
  • Stored filters do not expire. Keep your unused filters in a cool, dark, and dry place until you need them.
  • If you do not use your water dispenser for more than four days, run two gallons (7.6 L) of water before using it to prevent bad tasting water.

Troubleshooting

My refrigerator is not dispensing water

  • Make sure that the filter is securely connected to the receiver. Do not use tools to tighten the filter in place.
  • Make sure that the water line to the refrigerator is turned on. The valve must be completely open for the refrigerator to receive water.
  • Make sure that the refrigerator door is closed or the dispenser will not work.

My water dispenser is dripping
A few drops are normal. If the water is dripping constantly, have a service technician check your refrigerator’s water valve.

My water is cloudy or contains black carbon pieces

  • Cloudy water is caused by microscopic air bubbles. Run two (7.6 L) to three (11.3L) gallons of water from your dispenser to clear the air bubbles out.
  • Black carbon pieces in the water are normal and appear with all carbon filters. Run two (7.6 L) to three (11.3L) gallons of water through your dispenser to remove loose carbon pieces.

My new filter is making noises or sputtering

  • Noises and sputtering are caused by trapped air pockets. Run two (7.6 L) to three gallons (11.3 L) of water through your dispenser to push the air out.
  • Please reinstall the new filter as instructed and make sure that the filter is securely connected to the receiver. Do not use tools to tighten the filter in place.

My water tastes bad

  • If you do not use your water dispenser for more than four days, run two gallons (7.6 L) of water through the dispenser before using it.
  • Make sure that you replace your filter every three to six months to prevent bacteria growth.

While testing was performed under standard laboratory conditions, actual performance may vary.
