Safety instructions

Intended use
This device is meant to be used to amplify analogue audio signals for playback with headphones. Any other use or use under other operating conditions is considered to be improper and may result in personal injury or property damage. No liability will be assumed for damages resulting from improper use.

Danger for children
Ensure that plastic bags, packaging, etc. are disposed of properly and are not within reach of babies and young children. Choking hazard! Ensure that children do not detach any small parts from the product. They could swallow the pieces and choke! Never let children unattended use electri-cal devices.

Possible hearing damage
When headphones are connected, the device can produce volume that may cause temporary or permanent hearing impairment. Do not operate the device continuously at high volume. Turn down the volume immediately if background noise or hearing failure should occur.

External power supply
The device is powered by an external power supply. The voltage selector sets the operating voltage. Before switching on the device, ensure that the input voltage (AC outlet) matches the voltage rating of the device and that the AC outlet is protected by a residual current circuit breaker. Failure to do so could result in damage to the device and possibly injure the user. Unplug the device before electrical storms occur and when it is unused for long periods of time to reduce the risk of electric shock or fire.

Possible staining
The plasticiser contained in the rubber feet of this product may possibly react with the coating of your surface and after some time cause perma-nent dark stains. In case of doubt, do not put the rubber feet directly on the surface and use a suitable underlay if necessary, i.e. felt-pad floor pro- tectors or similar.

Possible damage due to installation of a wrong fuse
The use of different types of fuses can cause serious damage to the unit. Fire hazard! Only fuses of the same type may be used.

Where to use the product Never use the product

  • in conditions of extreme temperature or humidity
  • in extremely dusty or dirty areas
  •  at locations where the unit can become wet

General handling

  • To prevent damage, never use force when handling the product.
  • Never immerse the product in water. Just wipe it with a clean dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners such as benzene, thinners or flammable cleaning agents.
  • Keep foreign substances from the unit!
  • Keep the device away from containers with liquids. Should any liquid get into the unit, this could lead to its destruction, fire or electric shock. Be sure not to let any metal objects into the unit.

Connections and operating elements

  1. [INPUT] Rotary control to select the input source XLR, RCA or JACK

  2. [MODE] Rotary control to select the playback mode of the input signal

  3. [FEED] Rotary control to adjust the feed from the left channel to the right channel and vice versa.

  4.  [ANGLE] Rotary control to adjust the virtual positioning of speakers

  5.  [M/S LEVEL] Rotary control to adjust the mid/side-level balance

  6.  [ON/OFF] Switch the selector to ON to enable the functions of the rotary
controls [FEED], [ANGLE] and [M/S LEVEL].
Switch the selector to OFF to disable the function.
The settings of the rotary controls [FEED], [ANGLE] and [M/S LEVEL] do not affect the device when the controls are disabled.

  7. [VOLUME] Rotary control to adjust the volume of the headphone output

  8.  [HEADPHONE] Headphone output, 1/4″ jack socket

  • [POWER] Main switch. Turns on and off the device. 9.  IEC chassis connector for power supply with fuse holder 10.  [115V/230V] Selector to switch the power supply 11.  [XLR] XLR panel socket, 3-pin, to connect a signal source, i.e. audio interface 12.  [TRS] 1/4″ jack socket to connect a signal source, i.e. MP3 player 13.  [RCA] RCA socket to connect a signal source, i.e. CD player

Using the product

  1. Connect the signal source whose input signals you want to play via headphones using an XLR cable to [XLR], a 1/4″ jack cable to [TRS] or an RCA cable to [RCA].
Connect the signal source to the corresponding inputs of the right input INPUT R for playback in mono.
For playback in stereo, connect the signal source to the corresponding inputs of the right input INPUT R and the left input INPUT L.

  2. For the playback of input signals in mono, turn the rotary control [MODE] to MONO, for the playback of input signals in stereo, turn the rotary control to STEREO. For muting the headphone output [HEADPHONE], turn the rotary control to MUTE.

  3. Connect the headphone via the 1/4″ jack socket to your device.

  4.  Ensure that the input voltage (AC outlet) matches the voltage rating of the device and switch the selector [115V/230V], if necessary.

  5. Connect the cable of the power adapter to the IEC chassis connector and plug the power adapter into a properly wired mains outlet.

  6. Turn on the device with the main switch [POWER].

  7.  Set the volume of the headphone output as desired using the rotary control [VOLUME].

  8. Set the feed ratio (MID, LOW, HIGH) as desired using the rotary control [FEED]. According to the ratio, the left channel signal will be feed into the right channel signal.

  9. Set the virtual positioning of speakers (30°, 22°, 40°) using the rotary control
[ANGLE]. According to the angle, the arriving time of the signal is different. According to the interaural difference, it is possible to create speaker-like conditions.

  10. When using headphones, the mid signal normally is lower than the side signals. Adjusting the settings with the rotary controls [FEED] and [ANGLE] can amplifie the mid signal intensively.
Use the rotary control [M/S LEVEL] to damp the mid signal in two steps to counteract the settings made with the rotary controls [FEED] and [ANGLE].
