VM Horizon Remote Access for non-G+T laptop User Guide
VM Horizon allows you to access G+T applications from your home PC or laptop using a browser.
You can log in to VM Horizon using this web address:

Note that you can also download the VM Horizon client directly to your
personal laptop/PC. See Other useful quick guides.
Pre-requisites
Before you can access VM Horizon, you will need:
- the Okta Verify App installed on your mobile phone; and
- access to the internet.
If the Okta Verify App is not installed, please contact IT Service Desk on ext 4500 and they will take care of this for you.
Access G+T systems via the web interface
You can access G+T systems via your browser as follows:

Enter desktop.gtlaw.com.au.
The VMware Horizon login window displays. -
Enter your usual GT user name and system password then click Go.
You’ll be prompted to enter your Okta Verify security code.
Warning:
Do not save your password if prompted to do so. Choose Never for this site.

Click on the VDI settings button (top right).

Under VMware View click on the HTML5 option button then click OK.
Nothing appears to happen, however you can now choose the Windows 10 app to take you to the G+T desktop.

Click on the Windows 10 app.
The G+T desktop displays.
Jabber
When the G+T desktop loads, the Jabber sign-in window will display.
- Enter your usual G+T network login credentials.
Information: As it currently stands, you will be prompted to log in to Jabber each time you use VM Horizon.
Setup order for web interface
You will need to set up your main applications in the order below.
Warning
This is a once only process. It is important that you follow the instructions
carefully including launching the applications in the correct order as
indicated.
- Internet Explorer
- NetDocuments (use on the desktop initially)
- Outlook.
Launching Internet Explorer
When you open Internet Explorer, you’ll need to follow the prompts to install IE11.
Time saver
To add Internet Explorer to the taskbar: > type Internet > right click on Internet Explorer Desktop app.

Double click on the Internet Explorer icon and choose Use recommended security and compatibility settings.

Click OK.
The Gilbert + Tobin Sign in box will display.
Enter your G+T network user name and password and then click Sign in.
Warning
Do not tick the Remember me checkbox. If you are ever prompted to store
your password for okta.com always choose Not for this site
Internet Explorer will open.
Launching NetDocuments
Make sure you open NetDocs by double clicking on the ND desktop shortcut.
- To display the desktop, hold down the Windows key and press d.
- Double click on the nd (NetDocuments) shortcut icon.
You’ll now automatically be signed into NetDocuments using Okta single sign- on.
Launching Outlook

When you double click on the Outlook shortcut on the desktop, you will need to follow the prompts to configure it.
The Welcome to Outlook dialog box will display with your G+T email address.

Click Connect.
We’re getting things ready ’ will display then you will be signed in automatically through OKTA
Account setup is complete will appear. -
Click OK.
ndMail will now install.
ndMail install
- You will see at least 3 identical dialog boxes display as well as a Loading progress bar where the drag and drop panel should be (on the left) – see the screenshot below.
- The first box will say ‘ ndOffice au would like to connect to your NetDocuments account.
- Click Allow and close the other boxes.
Setup Office 365
You will now be asked to sign in to Office 365.

Click Sign in and enter your G+T email address in full eg jjones@gtlaw.com.au and follow the prompts.
Time saver
You may see a Loading progress bar on the left where the drag and drop panel in Outlook should be. However once you close the extra ndLogin dialog boxes and close/reopen Outlook, the progress bar will disappear and the drag and drop panel will display properly. -
As per the instructions in the Time saver box above, close Outlook – wait a few seconds – then re-open it.
ndMail should be installed and you will now be connected to G+T systems.
Acrobat DC
When you access Acrobat, you will be asked to Sign in each time.
This is temporary and will be fixed shortly.
- Double click on the Adobe Acrobat icon – see Add application icons.
- Click on Sign in now and follow the prompts.
Information
You can only sign in to Acrobat once so may be prompted to sign out from the
version you use on your G+T laptop. You will be prompted to sign back in again
when you next use Acrobat on your G+T laptop.
General maintenance
You will need to add application icons to the taskbar as well as Cabinets to ndMail.
ndMail – add your cabinets
When you re-open Outlook, ndMail will be installed however you will need to add your Matter and Personal Cabinets.

Make sure you are at the Outlook Inbox and can see the ndMail panel and email view pane on the right.
Warning
Do not attempt to add a Cabinet in an open email as it will instantly disappear once you close the email or send it. -
Click on the + sign and choose Matter Cabinet then repeat for the Personal Cabinet.
Add application icons

Click (bottom left) and enter the name of the application eg IntApp time.
The IntApp time Desktop app will appear. -
Right click on the application and choose Pin to taskbar.

Repeat for other applications you wish to add eg Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote.
Time saver
Note that all applications are available to pin when you click on (bottom
right) ie right click on icon > More > Pin to taskbar.
Unpin the ndOffice Activity icon
Click on (bottom right) > > Settings > Other tab then
Logging out of VM Horizon
- make sure you’ve saved, checked in your files and closed any open applications, then from the VM Horizon toolbar at the top of the screen, click on the Options dropdown and choose Disconnect and Log Off > OK.
