Introduction

The black Canon 5900B100 PowerShot SX260 HS 12.1 MP Compact Digital Camera is a sleek camera with a potent 20x Optical Zoom, Optical Image Stabilization, and a 25mm Wide-Angle lens, but those are just the beginning of its features. While the camera’s 12.1 Megapixel High-Sensitivity CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 5 Image Processor give the rich, clear low-light performance that is the hallmark of Canon’s HS SYSTEM, you will see detail you never thought imaginable through the enormous zoom and wide-angle lens. With new high- resolution, high-speed processing, full 1080p HD video in stereo is more attractive than ever. It has Improved Smart AUTO now optimizes settings for 58 predefined shooting scenarios, Face ID gives priority to faces that have already been registered, and GPS tracks and records your shooting.

CORRECTION METHOD FOR THE SHOOTING SITUATION

  • When taking still photos, Normal adjusts for a variety of camera movement.
  • PANNING: To ensure that IS does not obstruct desired camera movement, panning motion is recognized.
  • MACRO (HYBRID): corrects shift-type camera shake, which frequently happens while shooting up close with a macro lens.
  • DYNAMIC EFFECTIVE: for wide-angle video capture, removing the annoying shaking that usually happens while moving.
  • When recording video at the telephoto end of the zoom range, when camera shake is amplified, powered compensates for hand movement.
  • TRIPOD: The Image Stabilizer is turned off when a tripod is used because it is not required.

HOW TO KNOW IF A LENS IS COMPATIBLE WITH CANON CAMERA

Checking the lens mount index on the front of your EOS camera is the simplest way to determine which lenses are compatible with your camera. By depressing the lens release button and rotating the lens counterclockwise, you may easily remove the lens from your camera. Canon has four different mount options.

HOW TO KNOW IF A LENS IS FULL FRAME

If the lens is marked DX, it is a crop sensor lens rather than a full frame lens. It is a full frame lens if the lens has an FX designation or if it was designed for older 35 mm film cameras.

HOW TO KNOW WHICH LENS TO USE

Wide-angle focal lengths, such as those of the 14mm, 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm, may be something to consider if you want to fit more into your frame. On the other hand, choose a telephoto lens with a focal length that typically falls between 50mm and 100mm if you want to get as near to your subject as you can.

FAQs

Why is it called “old Model”

There is a newer version called the sx280 hs which has a newer sensor and Wi- Fi or something over the sx260. I have both, well my wife uses the sx280 and I have the sx260 as a backup camera when I don’t use my Nikon. The sx280 seems to be a little better in speed, i.e. less lag between shots is the main difference that I’ve noticed between the two models, and maybe the 280 has a little better low light ability. If you’re looking between the 260 and the 280, get the 280 if the price difference isn’t too much.

Can anyone tell me why I would want to get this camera which is very well rated but is12mp instead of a 16?

Pixels, schmixels. Sensor size is more important. You will never be able to tell the difference between 12 MP and 16 MP with this camera’s sensor. Carrying around extra useless pixels just makes bigger files with essentially no improvement in quality.

Pets?

I have found that pets have a hard time using this camera.

How is the sharpness of shots at full zoom?

I traveled to South Africa this spring. I took over 700 photos, almost all were at full zoom, especially of hippos in water…. I purchased the Canon PowerShot for just this trip. I practiced quite a bit before the trip as I am not a photo guru and could not hope to handle heavy lenses, changing out, etc.. My photos were just as crisp and clear and got better within a day or so.

What is the difference between SX260 and SX280 please. Both are offered by Amazon but the SX280 is slightly less and has Wi-Fi.

The SX280hs has had firmware/battery issues. An update has been issued with reported varied results. I gave up and went with the SX260hs. Wi-Fi and the next generation processor is the differences the SX280HS offer, but other issues make it a paperweight. The SX260hs takes great pictures right out of the box.

Why did you choose this camera?

The best camera you have is the one you have with you. The others are useless. Down sizing from a larger purse and an older larger Canon Powershot that worked very well for years. This one takes beautiful pics, has as much control as you may want or need, is about as small as they get and it is reasonably priced. It does not have WIFI, but I can easily do without that. The SX280hs, even with the update, still seems to have some problems and I don’t like to buy something that is broken.

Can anyone tell me how is the shutter lag on this camera? My wife wants a new point and shoot camera that has minimal lag

The sx260 doesn’t have shutter lag but it has picture lag. This it’s where it takes a little too long to wait between repetitive shots.

Where is it made in?

The information on the camera states that it was made in Japan.

How is sx240 compared to sx260? Specs seem to be the same except for GPS. In my country we don’t have sx260!

They don’t sell the SX240 in my country! But as far as I can tell from a bit of research, the cameras are identical except for the GPS. I continue to think highly of my 260! I don’t know whether they’ll let me insert a link in a reply, but you can find comparisons of the two cameras on the Internet. Here’s one: http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_PowerShot_SX240_HS_SX260_HS/

Does it have an external mic port?

No, it does not.

Does the flash automatically pop up in auto mode when needed?

I have just played mine and it does pop up the flash automatically when in auto mode. When in on mode, it pops out all the time.

Is the LCD screen easy to view in bright sunlight?

My wife uses this camera so I asked her your question…good question as we live in Florida and we get very bright sunshine here. She took the camera outside and reports…no problem….she can see the LCD screen easily.

What is the battery life on recording a video? How many minutes can you record with a full one?

I used the video on my SX260 at the Justin Timberlake Concert and recorded about15 minutes of videos in addition to a number of photos and still had plenty of battery life left. No problem at all.

What is the battery life

At least 200-250 photos, even with high use of flash (but with GPS turned off). If you have GPS turned on, battery life drops rapidly (this is true of all cameras with GPS). If you do not use flash a lot, and avoid browsing through images frequently on the LCD, and zooming in and out, you may be able to get 350+ photos on a single charge with a new battery.

This poplar camera has recently been unseated by the comparably priced Canon SX510 (which even looks sexier). Why choose the SX260?.

I own the SX260 and one very similar to the SX510. The quick answer is size!! SX260 fits in my shirt pocket for instant access. Lots of horsepower for something that fits in your shirt pocket. I have some big high horse power cameras but have missed some golden opportunities because I didn’t want to lug one around. A good point and shoot has landed an important spot in my photography.
