Setting Up a Cync Thermostat
This guide will assist you to setup your new Cync Smart Thermostat. Follow the
instructions in the Cync App. If your Cync Smart Thermostat is not already
installed, see the Cync Smart Thermostat Installation Guide. The commissioning
process takes about 10 minutes and consists of 4 steps to end. See below for
these steps.
Helpful Tips
- If this isn’t your first time attempting set up, you may need to factory reset your device.
Identifying Wires
- Start by removing the cover of the thermostat. You will hear a click when the cover releases from the base.
- There should be wire labels on each wire attached to the thermostat from the installation processes. In the app, select which wires are currently attached.
- Select your heat type.
- Replace the cover onto the base. Push gently until there is a click.
- You should now see your thermostat boot up.
Setup Network
- After reinstalling the cover of the thermostat from the previous step, you should see the thermostat boot up. When you see the Bluetooth icon turn on, hit Next in the Cync app.
- You will now need to locate your devices in the Cync App. Please note that it is best to setup one thermostat at a time. Hold your phone as close as possible to the devices you are setting up. Select Next in the Cync app to start locating devices.
- Select Set Up on the located Cync Smart Thermostat in the app. You may tap the image to make the thermostat that is being configured blink if there are multiple.
- Name your thermostat or choose from the suggested names list. Select Next.
- The app will now search for available networks. Select your Wi-Fi network to connect your device.
- Once you have successfully connected to the network, your device will automatically search for any updates.
- Your device is now added to your home.
Setup Thermostat Sensors
- You may now set up any remote sensors with your Cync Smart Thermostat. If you do not have any, select No to move onto the next steps. Select Yes if you have sensors to install, and follow the instructions below.
- Name your Thermostat Senosor or choose from the list of Suggested Names. Select Next when finished.
- Add Pin number or scan QR code on the sensor. Select Next to pair the sensor.
- Your sensor set up is now complete.
Setup Schedule
You may set up an Auto, Heating, or Cooling Schedule in the Cync App during commissioning. Auto schedules have both hot and cool setpoints and can both heat and cool your home. Select Yes if you would like you set up an Auto, Heating, or Cooling schedule now. See the Scenes and Schedules article for information on how to set up schedules. If not, select No , and your setup will be complete.
Troubleshooting
What if there is a wire type that was currently installed in my home that is not displayed in the Cync App to choose?
Select the other option. You may have an unsupported system. Navigate to our support center for more help.
Why won’t the Cync Smart Thermostat connect to Bluetooth?
When you are setting up the thermostat, make sure that the Bluetooth icon appears in the top right of the thermostat screen. If it is not there, press and hold the menu icon for 10 seconds.
Why can’t my device be located?
- Make sure that your smart phone has Bluetooth enabled.
- Make sure that you are as close as possible to the device you are configuring.
- The Cync Smart Thermostat is only capatiable with 2.4 GHz networks. Be sure that the network you are connecting the device supports 2.4 GHz. For dual-band routers, make sure you are choosing the 2G network. In some cases, you may need to access your router to separate the two. See the routers manufacturer for instructions.
Will my Cync Smart Thermostat work without Wi-Fi?
The Cync Smart Thermostat still has functionality without Wi-Fi connection. It will be able to engage with your HVAC equipment and function as a traditional thermostat. However, it will lose some functinoality such as schedule, scenes, and control via the Cync App.
How do I find settings information of my Cync Smart Thermostat?
From the Home Page in the Cync App, select your Cync Smart Thermostat then select the gear icon on the top right of the page.
Wi-Fi Troubleshooting
If you are having issues connecting with Wi-Fi setting up your Cync Smart Thermostat, try the following;
- Ensure that your router is on and working properly. The Cync Smart Thermostat is only compatiable with 2.4 GHz networks. For dual-band routers, connect to the 2.4 GHz band and not 5 GHz.
- Update the firmware. From the home screen on the Cync App, go to Settings > Firmware Updates.
- Check the strength of your Wi-Fi. From the home screen select your Cync Smart Thermostat and select the gear icon.
- Try trouble shooting connections with the router:
- Power cycle the Cync Smart thermostat and your router. Unplug the router and remove the thermostat cover from the wall. Wait 3 minutes and replace the cover and plug the router back in.
- Try to reconnect to the Wi-Fi once the router and thermostat are back up and running.
- Check to see if there is a weak Wi-Fi signal strength. Try moving the router closer to the thermostat or consider a Wi-Fi range extender to provide a stronger signal.
