How to setup your Cync and C by GE Ceiling Fan Smart Switches in the Cync app.

Follow these steps to setup your Ceiling Fan Smart Switch in the C by GE/CYNC app

  1. Open the Cync app.
  2. Select  Add Devices at the bottom of your home screen.
  3. Select the device type  Fan Speed Switches  and select  Next.

4. Put the device in setup mode by pressing and holding the ceiling fan smart switch for at least 10 seconds and let go. The light indicator will blink blue when it is successfully in setup mode.

5. Connect through Bluetooth. If you have not already done so, select the Enable Bluetooth  button. A pop up screen will appear and ask for permission to use Bluetooth on your device. Select  Okay  to enable and press  Next.

Connect through Bluetooth

6. Turn on Location Permissions if you have not already done so. This is required to locate your device during setup via Bluetooth. Select the Turn on Location  button. A pop up screen will appear and ask for permission to use Location on your smart phone. Select  Okay  to enable and press Next.

7. The app will now search for any available updates to existing connected devices. You may choose to update those devices now. Select Next  when finished.  Note:  it is strongly recommended to update before proceeding for the best home experience.

8. The app is now ready to locate your ceiling fan smart switch. It is recommended to setup devices for one room at a time. Hold your phone close to fan switch during setup. Select Next  to locate device(s).
9. Once the ceiling fan smart switch has been located, you will have to Set Up  the device. The device will blink three times to indicate which one is selected in the app. Select the  Set Up  button. Do this for each device located:

  1. 1. Name the device and select  **Next**. The app will list some suggested names for the device as well.
  2. Select or add a Wi-Fi network. In this step, your fan switch will scan for available Wi-Fi networks to connect to. Choose your network from the list and enter your password to connect. If your Wi-Fi network has already been used to set up other devices, you can select it again and continue without need to re-enter your password. If you do not see your network or your SSID is hidden, then you can select  Add Network  to manually enter your network SSID and password.  Note  that if your Wi-Fi signal strength is too low, it may not appear in this list or it will appear with a warning that the signal is low. When connecting to networks with poor signal, you may need to try multiple times to connect and your fan switch may have issues staying connected after initial setup.
  3. Add device to a room. You may choose from any existing room previously created in the Cync app, or create a new room for the ceiling fan smart switch. Select  Next  when finished.
  4. Add device to a group. You may choose from any existing group previously created within that room in the Cync app, or create a new group for the ceiling fan smart switch. Select  Next  when finished. You may also  Skip  this step.

Add device

10. Your device is now added to the home. Select Done. The app will check for updates for the newly added Ceiling Fan Smart switch. Once that is finished, your device setup is complete.

NOTE:  If you want your switch to control other Cync or C by GE devices (like plugs, lights and other switches), assign the switch to the same room or group as these devices in the app.

 Troubleshooting

Why can’t the app locate my Ceiling Fan Smart Switch?

  • Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on
  • Make sure the LED indicator on the switch is blinking blue, indicating that it is ready for setup. If it is not blinking blue, press and hold the on/off button for 10 seconds.
  • Move your phone as close as possible to the switch during the setup process
  • Power cycle the switch by pulling out the airgap at the bottom of the switch then push back in (Dimmer and Motion Sensing Dimmer), pushing the airgap at the bottom of the switch (On/Off Button Switch), or by removing the faceplate and pushing the pinhole button (On/Off Paddle and Toggle Switch).

Why do I need to update my devices in app?

  • It is important to keep your device’s firmware updated regularly. This will ensure that the devices are functioning properly and all your smart products work together to provide the best user experience.

Why did an update fail during setup?

  • There are many reasons why a firmware update may have failed during execution. If a failed update occurs, try the update again. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then one of these common issues may be the cause:
    • Ensure your phone is connected to the internet using either mobile data or Wi-Fi.
    • Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your smart phone. Bluetooth only devices need Bluetooth enabled to update firmware.
    • Do not close the app while firmware updates are in progress. This will cancel the update.
    • Stand closer to your device. Ensure you are as close as possible to the device while update is in progress.

Why can’t I connect my Ceiling Fan Smart Switch to my home’s Wi-Fi network?

  • If the Cync app can’t find your home Wi-Fi Network or your switch is having trouble connecting to your home Wi-Fi Network, here are some common solutions:
    • Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network; 5 GHz networks are not supported
    • Ensure that there is a strong Wi-Fi signal strength in the switch’s location. If your phone has a weak signal in that area, then the switch will likely have a weak signal as well. Installing a Wi-Fi repeater between your router and the switch can help improve signal strength of your switch.

If these tips do not resolve your issue, you may need to factory reset your device. Resetting the device will require you to set it up in the app again. Any settings, scenes, or schedules for the device will be deleted.
