Setting Up Outdoor Plugs
How to setup your Cync Outdoor Smart Plug in the Cync app.
Pairing to the Cync App
NOTE: If you are unsure about your Wi-Fi range, connect your smart phone to your Wi-Fi network, disable mobile data and stand in the location of the outdoor plug. Check that your phone has a strong Wi-Fi signal before setting up your outdoor plug.
- Plug in the Outdoor Smart Plug within Wi-Fi range.
- Open the Cync app.
- To begin setup, select Add Devices at bottom of your home screen.
- Select the device type Plug and follow the instructions on the app screens.
NOTE: You can control both outlets on the Outdoor Smart Plug together, or individually.
During setup, you will be prompted to give both outlets a name. If you want to control both outlets at the same time, make sure to assign them to the same App Room or Group. If you want to control them separately, assign them to different App Rooms or Groups.
You can change this later in Settings > Room and Device Settings.
Helpful Hints
- Make sure you are connecting to the 2.4GHz band on your wi-fi router. Cync is not compatible with 5 GHz networks.
- Your Outdoor Smart Plug will automatically be put into setup mode when plugged in. After 10 minutes, the plug will time out. To put it back into setup mode, unplug and plug it back in.
- If this isn’t your first time attempting set up, you may need to factory reset your device.
Troubleshooting Tips
Why can’t the app locate my Outdoor Smart Plug?
- Confirm the plug is plugged all the way into a wall outlet.
- Make sure your plug is still in setup mode. The LED indicator lights will be blinking blue. If it is not, unplug and plug it back in.
- Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is on.
- Move your mobile phone closer to the Outdoor Smart Plug.
- Power cycle the plug by unplugging it, then plugging it back in.
Why do I need to update my devices in app?
- It is important to keep your device’s firmware updated regularly. This will ensure that the devices are functioning properly, and all your smart products work together to provide the best user experience.
Why did an update fail during setup?
- There are many reasons why a firmware update may have failed during execution. If a failed update occurs, try the update again. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then one of these common issues may be the cause:
- Ensure your phone is connected to the internet using either mobile data or Wi-Fi.
- Make sure the Wi-Fi router that your plug is connected to is powered on and broadcasting. Wi-Fi enabled devices need to be connected to the internet to complete firmware updates.
- Stand closer to your device. When updating firmware, ensure you are no more than 40 feet from the device.
Why can’t I connect the Outdoor Smart Plug to my home Wi-Fi network?
If you’re having issues connecting to your home Wi-Fi network, here are some common solutions:
- Make sure your phone is connected to your home’s Wi-Fi network prior to setup.
- Confirm your Wi-Fi Router is powered on and broadcasting. You can check this by going to Settings on your mobile phone and looking for your Wi-Fi network.
- If your router is powered on, but not broadcasting, contact your Internet Service Provider.
- Check your Wi-Fi signal strength at the plug’s location. You can do this by looking at the Wi-Fi signal strength on your phone.
- If you do not have a strong signal strength:
- Move the plug closer to your router or install a Wi-Fi repeater.
- If you have a Wi-Fi repeater, move it halfway between the plug and your router to improve signal strength.
- Power cycle the plug by unplugging it, then plugging it back in
If these tips do not resolve your issue, you may need to factory reset your device. Resetting the device will require you to set it up in the app again. Any settings, scenes, or schedules for the device will be deleted.
