Important Safety Instructions

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
This manual contains instructions and warnings that should be followed during the installation, operation and storage of this product. Failure to heed these instructions and warnings will void the product warranty.
CAUTION Only those who are properly trained or qualified to use this device should do so. Anyone who is not trained or qualified should not use this device unless it is under the supervision of someone who is properly trained or qualified to do so. Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not use the device as a toy. Never use the device if the cord and plug are damaged; if it is not working properly, or if it has been dropped or damaged, take it to an authorized service center for inspection and repair.
If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its authorized service agent, or by qualified personnel in order to avoid danger.

Important Warnings

  • ISO PDU models provide Isobar surge and line noise protection to connected equipment through its outlets.
  • Non-ISO PDU models provide the convenience of multiple outlets but DO NOT provide surge or line noise protection for connected equipment.
  • The PDU is designed for indoor use only, in a controlled environment, away from excess moisture, temperature extremes, conductive contaminants, dust or direct sunlight.
  • Keep the indoor ambient temperature between 32°F and 77°F (0°C and 25°C).
  • The PDU must be installed by a qualified technician only.
  • Do not attempt to mount the PDU to an insecure or unstable surface.
  • Install in accordance with National Electrical Code standards. Be sure to use the proper overcurrent protection for the installation, in accordance with the plug/equipment rating.
  • Connect the PDU to an outlet that is in accordance with your local building codes and that is adequately protected against excess currents, short circuits and earth faults.
  • The electrical outlets supplying power to the equipment should be installed near the equipment and easily accessible.
  • Do not connect the PDU to an ungrounded outlet or to extension cords or adapters that eliminate the connection to ground.
  • The plug on the cord-connected models serves as the disconnect device.
  • Be sure to provide a local disconnect device on any models that are permanently installed without a plug that is easily accessible.
  • Never attempt to install electrical equipment during a thunderstorm.
  • Individual equipment connected to the PDU should not draw more current than the individual PDU’s outlet’s rating.
  • The total load connected to the PDU must not exceed the maximum load rating for the PDU.
  • Do not attempt to modify the PDU, input plugs or power cables.

Important Warnings

  • Do not drill into or attempt to open any part of the PDU housing. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Do not attempt to use the PDU if any part of it becomes damaged.
  • Use of this equipment in life support applications where failure of this equipment can reasonably be expected to cause the failure of the life support equipment or to significantly affect its safety or effectiveness is not recommended.

Installation

  1. (1A) 0U Rack Configuration. Attach the three mounting clips supplied with the PDU to the rack enclosure using the included hardware. The mounting lips should be attached along a vertical plane at equidistant points that roughly correspond to the center and ends of the PDU. The exact mounting configuration may vary depending on the rack and enclosure. If possible, use pre-existing mounting points within the enclosure.
TRIPP-LITE PDUMV15 Basic and Metered Rack PDUs -
onfiguration (1B )Wall or Under-Counter Configuration. Attach the three mounting clips supplied with the PDU to a wall or similar flat, secure surface using the included hardware. The mounting clips should be attached along a vertical or horizontal plane at equidistant points that roughly correspond to the center and ends of the PDU. If possible, use pre-existing mounting points. WARNING: Do not attempt to mount the PDU with the outlets facing downward; the mounting clips are not designed to support the weight of the PDU in that manner.
TRIPP-LITE PDUMV15 Basic and Metered Rack PDUs -
Counter (1C )0U Rack Configuration. Attach the included mounting buttons to the PDU. Position the PDU as desired in the rack enclosure, align the buttons with the rack mounting slots, and slide the PDU into position. Go to step 3.

included Note:
Regardless of configuration, the user must determine the fitness of hardware and procedures before mounting. The PDU and included hardware are designed for a common rack and rack enclosure types and may not be appropriate for all applications.

  2. Attach the PDU to the mounting clips. Using an assistant, place a rear corner of the PDU at an inside edge of the mounting clips, pivot the PDUoward the alternate inside edge, and snap it into place.

  3. Attach the input plug of the PDU to a grounded outlet. Insert the plug directly into a grounded outlet that does not share a circuit with a heavy electrical load (such as an air conditioner or refrigerator).

Features

TRIPP-LITE PDUMV15 Basic and Metered Rack PDUs -
Features

  1. NEMA 5-15P Input Plug (Models PDUMV15 and PDUV15)

  2. NEMA 5-15R Outlets (Models PDUMV15 and PDUV15)

  3. NEMA L5-20P Input Plug (Models PDUMV20 and PDUV20)

  4. NEMA 5-15/20R Outlets (Models PDUMV20 and PDUV20)

  5. NEMA 5-20P Plug Adapter (Models PDUMV20 and PDUV20):
The adapter converts the input plug from NEMA L5-20P to NEMA 5-20P.

  6. Circuit Breaker: If the current drawn by the equipment connected to the PDU exceeds the Maximum Load Rating, the circuit breaker will trip to prevent possible damage. When the circuit breaker trips, its plunger will pop up. Disconnect excess equipment and allow the breaker to cool at least one minute before depressing the plunger to reset the breaker.

  7. Ammeter (Models PDUMV15 and PDUMV20 only): The total electrical current used by the PDU will be displayed on the digital meter in amperes.

  8. Illuminated Power Switch with Cover (Models PDUMV15 and PDUMV20 only)

  9. Diagnostic Indicator Lights: The three LEDs on the front panel show current power conditions (from left to right):
TRIPP-LITE PDUMV15 Basic and Metered Rack PDUs - Diagnostic
Indicator Protection Present (Green LED):
Indicates the surge-suppression components are intact and provide full protection against spikes and surges. This LED should be lit anytime the PDU is lugged in and power is present. If the Protection Present LED does not light, then some of the surge suppression components are not functioning and the nit should be returned for repair as soon as possible. You may still use the unit; however, connected equipment will be protected from spikes and surges at a lesser level than normal.
*Line Fault (Red LED):** Indicates a wiring fault has been detected. If this LED illuminates at any time while the unit is plugged in, the fault should be repaired by a qualified electrician as soon as possible. This LED indicates that phases are reversed, the ground is missing or some other sort of wiring error exists in the circuit the PDU is plugged into. The Line Fault detector circuitry will identify the most common wiring faults, but will not necessarily detect every possible type of fault.

Features

Line “OK” (Green LED): Indicates that nominal AC power is present with no wiring faults detected. When this LED is illuminated, AC power is safe for connected equipment.

  • If the Line Fault (Red LED) indicator illuminates, carefully check the AC receptacle the PDU is plugged into. The receptacle must be tight and securely grounded. A loose AC receptacle may cause the Line Fault LED to illuminate. The Red LED indicates the presence of a wiring fault but does not indicate the exact nature of the fault. Only qualified electricians should make necessary outlet repairs.
If the Line Fault indicator illuminates and power is not present at the outlets, the PDU’s surge-suppression components have been compromised as a result of surge damage.
