Powering up
Your new QR10PA portable PA unit may arrive with you with the internal battery
charged. Before connecting to the mains with the supplied power adaptor,
switch the unit on and check the POWER LED. If it is green, there is a charge
in the battery. If it is red, then you will need to charge the battery before
using it away from a mains power supply.
Connect the QR10 PA unit to the mains using the supplied power adaptor. You
may otherwise opt to connect the DC input jack to an external 12-15Vdc supply,
such as a car battery, or use the internal battery if charged.
When not in use but connected to the mains, if the POWER switch is in the off
position, the internal battery will be recharged from the mains supply. This
can be observed by the CHARGE LED which will light orange when charging. When
fully charged, the CHARGE LED will change to green.
Note: it is recommended to store the PA unit at an ambient temperature
and not with the battery fully discharged.
Initial setup
Turn all VOLUME & ECHO controls down (anti-clockwise) and turn the POWER
switch on (the power LED should light). BASS and TREBLE (5, 16) control should
remain to point vertically (12-o-clock position). Turn up the main VOLUME
control (14) part way and switch VCV (15) off. Your QR10PA unit should now be
ready to operate.
VHF Neckband Microphone
Connect the neckband microphone to the bodypack via the 3.5mm jack, slide
open the bodypack, and insert the supplied AA batteries, observing the correct
polarity. With the VHF WIRELESS MICROPHONE, VOL (6) control turned down, press
the VHF ON/OFF button (17) so that the VHF POWER LED (18) lights.
Switch on the belt pack transmitter fully (2 clicks as the center position is
“MUTE”) the RF LED should light as a result. Turn up the volume control on
the belt pack fully this can be turned down later if required. If the LED on
the transmitter lights dimly, change the battery.
Gradually increase VHF VOL control, testing the neckband microphone for output
through the speaker. Take care not to incur “feedback” (howling or screeching
sound through the speaker) by keeping the microphone a sensible distance from
the speaker and pointing away from the speaker so that it doesn’t hear the
speaker output.
Turning the ECHO control (3) clockwise introduces a pre-set echo function for
singing and special effects. BASS and TREBLE (5, 16) can be cut by turning
anti-clockwise or boosted by turning clockwise.
When not in use, switch the belt pack transmitter off and remove the batteries
if not being used for long periods.
External Inputs
In addition to the QR10PA’s own VHF microphones, 6.3mm jack inputs are
provided to connect external wired or wireless microphones, which are both
governed by the MIC VOL control. If required, the music level can be
automatically muted when speaking into a microphone by switching the VCV on.
Also, twin RCA and 3.5mm stereo jack input are provided for line input sources
such as CD player or iPod. To use these, set the MODE switch on the USB/SD/FM
player to “LINE IN”. The line input is governed by the main VOLUME control at
the top of the panel.
Adjacent to the twin RCA input is a twin RCA line output carrying the overall
main mix. This can be fed on to further active speakers or portable PA units
via a twin RCA lead.
VCV
The VCV button (15) activates a muting function which causes playback from the
internal media player to be temporarily reduced in level when there is input
from a microphone. This can be useful to “duck” music playback when making
announcements.
Internal USB/SD/FM player-recorder
Insert a USB memory stick or SD card with mp3 or WMA audio files stored on it
into the relevant slot on the rear panel. Playback should start automatically.
If both USB and SD are inserted, pressing the MODE button will select between
playback from the different storage devices.
Increasing the main VOLUME control (14) on the rear panel should result in the
audio being played through the speaker.
If playback does not start automatically, press the Play/Pause button or
remove the device and check that the files stored on it are in the correct
format, then re-insert and try again.
Alternatively, press the MODE button until the media player is in FM mode.
Pressing Play/Pause initiates the auto-tune function. This function scans and
stores available FM radio stations into memory locations. Stored radio
stations can then be selected using the Previous and Next buttons. The media
player controls are detailed below…
Switches mode between playback from USB, SD or FM tuner
Previous track/station, hold for volume down
Next track/station, hold for volume up
Record mode
Play/pause track auto-tuning in FM mode
In addition to the panel controls, an infra-red remote control is provided for
the USB/SD player which adds some further functions to allow greater control
over the media player. To operate, remove the clear plastic tab from the
remote to activate the battery. Controls and their relevant functions are
detailed below.
- Mute media player output
- Standby on/off for media player
- Play/Pause (channel scan in FM mode)
