LP-LED2M

The Yorkville Sound LP-LED2M is a compact and dual-powered (battery and AC) lighting system. The LP-LED2M uses 2 lighting fixtures, called pods, mounted on a stand-mountable bar/controller. The bar houses the user controls, the connectors for a separate controller, the power supply, the battery, an internal charger, and mounting options. Each light pod uses 4 very high-power multi-die LED emitters that comprise a red, a green, a blue, and a white die. The addition of the white die provides a much more complete light spectrum; a more accurate color rendering of the objects and/or people illuminated. The light output of each pod is roughly equivalent to 300-watt bulbs with gels. At a distance of 6 feet, the light beam has a diameter of 3 feet. The diameter of the light at 12 feet is 5 feet. The light is mixed in the lens so that the mixed light color is visible when looking at the lens. Each pod may be adjusted in 2 axes.

The LP-LED Bars may be used in several ways

  1. Stand alone, no separate controller is required
  2. Linked to other LP-LED Bars with one as master
  3. With a Yorkville Lighting Controller. The Yorkville Sound LP-C12 and LP-C4 controllers allow for more functionality than the LP-LED Bars on their own.
  4. The older Yorkville Sound LP-608 can also be used but has limited functionality (see more detailed description below). When a Yorkville Sound Color Controller is used, the controls on the LP-LED Bars become inactive except for the Brightness Control.
  5. With a DMX™ Controller. The DMX™ signals pass through internal integrated DMX™ processing via a 3-pin standard XLR. Five separate modes are available with DMX512 addressing standard protocol.
  6. Bluetooth Smart™ device. Using our dedicated Android and iOS apps via any Bluetooth Smart™ enabled device. Effects and full manual RGBW color controls are available, along with extended Bluetooth™ effects such as strobe.

Function Control & Stand-Alone Operation

The Function Control allows you to set the basic operation of the LP-LED Bars. It allows you to power the unit on, off, choose Bluetooth™ operation or set a manual setting. When an LP-LED Bar is operated by itself (stand-alone) there are a number of modes that are set by the Function control:

  • ALL ON Lamp Color control (5 identical positions)
  • Bluetooth™ operation 4 separate settings (A, B, C, D)
  • Chase (5 speeds)
  • Single Color fade (6 speeds)
  • Multi-Color fade (4 speeds)
  • Audio effects via internal microphone (4) or via ¼-inch jack, triggering (4) (inserting a jack bypasses the internal microphone)Yorkville -LP-LED2M -Battery-Powered-Stage-Lighting-Lightbar-FIG-1

Bluetooth™ Smart Device

You must install the Yorkville LP Control App on your smart device prior to use. The App is available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. The Bluetooth™ app may change and this description may not reflect the particular version the user has. There also may be additional features and details that may change. The number of bars connected may change along with a number of factors such as the digital device (phone or tablet), the software version in the bar / Bluetooth™ receiver, and the amount of Bluetooth™ traffic in the vicinity. To connect to a light bar, simply open the dedicated app and tap on the “Add Bar” button at the top of the screen. It will prompt you to enter a 4-digit pin code – if a bar is currently unsecured, any desired pin code can be entered. Security pin codes are cleared when the light bar is powered off or can be removed from the app. You can connect up to 4 bars at once. Once at least one bar has been connected, “help” and “connected devices” buttons will appear beside the “Add Bar Button,” along with: channel selection, individual head controllers, effects selection, and scene selection.

  • Channel Selection: Four channels are available, labeled A, B, C, and D. These correspond with the channel each light bar has been set to on the back of the bar. Any bar set to the currently selected channel will follow the given commands. For example, if two bars are connected and set to channel A, changing the first head color to red will cause the first heads specifically those two light bars to become red.

  • Individual Head Controls: the controls will appear as a color knob, an intensity slider, and a manual RGBW assignment button. Rotating the knob will cycle through the corresponding wheel colors, adjusting the intensity will affect the brightness level, and pressing the RGBW button will allow for manual RGBW color assignments.

  • Effects Selection: Eight effects are available. The first seven correspond with the effects on the light bar, while the eighth is an additional strobe effect. Individual head controls are disabled for that channel and scene until the effect is switched off.

  • Scene Selection: each scene will retain the configured head controls or effect for all 4 channels. 10 scenes are available and are automatically saved to device storage.

  • Brightness Control: The brightness of all pods varies from a minimum to a maximum with 32 positions. This control varies the brightness of all pods from any function position or any control source.

    • Note: The maximum brightness controlled by DMX or the Bluetooth™ app will depend on the manual brightness setting on the actual light bar.
  • Lamp Color Control: If using the Lamp Color control, any pod can be turned off by setting the Color control to the off position. There are 31 colors and color choices which begin with red, followed by blue, white, amber yellow, and finally green. There are also several choices of color temperature for white.

  • Fade / Multicolor Fade: The color fade speeds are fairly slow and are intended for gradually changing the lighting for a mood effect, chase speeds are faster and are also multi-color.

  • Color Sound to Light: The LP-LED Bars have sophisticated audio-to-light (color organ) circuitry. The automatic level circuitry allows it to be used with signals from weak line levels up to strong loudspeaker levels. The voltage range on the ¼-inch phone jack is 50mV to 100V. The LP-LED Bars have an internal microphone with automatic sensitivity. The microphone triggers the same sophisticated audio to light (color organ) circuitry as is used in the audio input jack.

    • Note: the microphone is active unless a ¼-inch phone jack is inserted into the audio input.
  • Mounting: For mounting on a standard loudspeaker stand please refer to the diagram “LP-LED Overhead Truss Mounting Instructions for Tripod Speaker Stand.” The stand adapter has a removable pin to allow multiple light bars per stand. For overhead truss mounting please refer to the diagram “LP-LED Overhead Truss Mounting Instructions.” As shown in the diagram you must use a safety cable to protect people and equipment in case the primary mounting hardware fails. This is unlikely to happen if the C-clamps are properly connected to the truss system but the addition of the safety cable is still a requirement. Improper installation can result in bodily injury or death. If you are not qualified to attempt the overhead installation get help from a professional structural rigger.

  • Using Multiple LP-LEDs: The Yorkville proprietary protocol connections and the DMX connections both allow for daisy-chaining. If one bar is used as a master to control other bars the Yorkville Protocol connections should be used to daisy chain from the master. A unit under Bluetooth™ control will output signals on the Yorkville Protocol jacks to allow daisy-chaining that mimics the bar under Bluetooth™ control.

  • LP-LED2M 1,2/3,4 Switch: The LP-LED2M has 2 light pods but the Yorkville lighting controllers such as the LP-C4 or LP-C12 use a 4-channel signal. The 1,2/3,4 switch selects which 2 of the 4 channels the bar responds to.

  • Power Consumption: The advantage of using LED versus conventional incandescent lighting is two-fold, not only does the unit give off less heat but also consumes less than 5-20% of the energy. This eliminates the need for separate AC power circuits just to run the lights!
Power consumption is rated under 200 watts which depends on the color choice and intensity. The light pods and the base are fan-cooled. The AC connector will mate with a standard IEC cable or with a special locking cable (sold separately). Line voltage can be anywhere from 100 to 240 volts AC enabling you to use the LP-LED Bars practically anywhere!

  • Battery Status Indicators: The LP-LED2M has a series of four green LEDs to indicate the approximate charge level. The upper green LED is illuminated if there is greater than 90% charge in the battery. The red LED only will indicate that the battery is critically low (less than 10% remaining) and needs immediate charging.

    • The indicators will be engaged only when the power switch is turned on.
  • Charging Indicator: Whenever AC is connected to the unit, the charging indicator will be turned on. If it is green, the unit is fully charged. If it is red, the unit is in the process of charging.

  • Charging the LP-LED2M: To charge the LP-LED2M, plug it into an AC power source using the included power cord. The charging indicator LED is the best indication of the charging status; even if all of the battery status LEDs are lit, there is still possibly some additional charging time required. The LP-LED2M can be safely left connected to AC power for charging indefinitely. It will intelligently control its own charging regime when plugged in long-term.

    • Note: The battery charge rate will drop to 1/8th when the unit is between the temperatures of 0°C-10°C
(32°F-50°F), and also 35°C-45°C (95°C-113°C). Charging will be suspended when the unit is below 0°C (32°F) or above 45°C (113°F).
If the LP-LED2M is going to be stored unused for a long period of time (greater than 6 months) it is advisable to periodically plug it in to charge up the battery.

    • If the LP-LED2M has been stored for a long period of time unused and has not been maintained, it is advisable to connect the charger and leave it plugged in for approximately 24 hours.

  • Yorkville sound LP-C12 and LP-C4 Controllers: The LP series controllers provide an easy way to control LP-series lights. The LP-C4 is a simple controller intended for foot-controlled applications and small applications. The LP-C12 provides extensive effects, effects patches, and scene controls in an especially easy-to-use format. The use of LP-series controllers also is the easiest way to synchronize effects between bars. The LP-C12 patch allows some pods to be under scene control while other pods are running effects.

  • Yorkville Sound LP-608 Lighting Controller: When operating with the Yorkville Sound LP-608 lighting controllers the color controls on the LP-LED Bars remain active. The Color control can be used to select the color of each pod or if the Color control is set to off then the LP-Controller’s intensity control becomes the color control (including off) but the intensity is not controllable.

    • Note: Operation with the legacy LP-608 controller will require a ‘gender reversing’ adapter in line with the XLR cable. This was done to prevent an accidental connection to a DMX™ controller from possibly causing damage.

LP-LED2M Convenience Power Receptacle

  • The LP-LED2M provides a convenient outlet that can minimize wiring and improve overall safety when used properly. Please carefully read all of the important safety tips shown below for the long and safe use of your lighting equipment.

IMPORTANT

  1. Do not overload the convenience outlet. Make sure power drawn from the first outlet does not exceed the limits shown on the chassis. Some acceptable combinations are shown below.Yorkville -LP-LED2M -Battery-Powered-Stage-Lighting-Lightbar-FIG-17
  2. Always inspect the cords and plugs before use. Do not use outlets or cords that have exposed wiring, are worn or damaged. Replace electrical cords that have worn or damaged insulation and remember to pull the plug, not the cord to extend the life of the cord itself.
  3. The main plug of the power supply cord shall remain readily operable. It is important that the user can quickly get to the ac plug and disconnect the unit in the case of an emergency.
  4. The AC supply cord should be routed so that it is unlikely that it will be damaged. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched. If the AC supply cord is damaged DO NOT OPERATE THE UNIT. To completely disconnect this apparatus from the AC Mains, disconnect the power supply cord plug from the AC receptacle. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time. Route cords away from traffic to avoid tripping hazards and unnecessary wear on the power cord.
  5. Never Break Off the Third Prong on a Plug. Replace broken 3-prong plugs and make sure the third prong is properly grounded.
  6. Keep line cords away from heat, water, and oil. They can damage the insulation and create a shock hazard.
  7. Do not tie cords in tight knots. Knots can cause short circuits and shocks. Loop the cords or use a twist lock plug.
  8. Be aware that unusually warm or hot outlets or cords may be a sign that an unsafe wiring condition exists. Check to ensure there are not too many devices in the chain drawing too much current from the line cord. Unplug any cords or extension cords from these outlets and do not use them until a qualified electrician has checked the wiring.
