Please take a little time to read the following instructions; then plug in, switch on, and unleash your musical creativity!Yorkville BB115 Big Block

  1. Power/Status and Power LED
The power LED on the front panel displays the status and condition of the amplifier. When powering up, the Traynor Big Block (switch on rear panel), the LED illuminates red for a few moments and then turns blue when the amp is ready to go. If the Mute is engaged or a fault is detected the LED will illuminate red. The power switch and circuit breaker are located on the rear.

  2. 0dB/Passive, -6dB/Active Inputs and Clip
The Traynor Big Block input circuit has been designed for most basses but as we know, all basses are not created equally. Some basses have higher signals while others have very low signals, the Traynor Big Blocks feature inputs that accommodate a wide range of basses by including both 0 and -6 db inputs.
For basses with standard, single-coil pickups, we suggest the 0 dB input; for active or extremely `hot’ pickups, such as humbuckers, try using the -6 dB input. In all cases, the Gain control setting will establish the type of clean or overdriven sound being produced by the amp.

  3. Limiter Switch
To prevent hard clipping of the power amp, a selectable peak limiter is provided

  4. Gain Control
The Traynor Big Block’s Gain control allows you to set the level of the signal before it’s sent to the tone controls. This allows control of the tonal sensitivity’ ordefinition’ of the amplifier. Higher gain settings will give more `growl’ to your bass.

  5. Tone Controls
A wide range of sonic possibilities, covering the entire audio spectrum, can be achieved using the four active tone controls on the Big Block amplifier. Each tone control has a range of ±15 db. The center position denotes a neutral or nominal setting for all controls. The Bass control adjusts the level of the low frequency and works with the Low Mid, the next frequency range up helping to scupt your bottom end. The Hi Mid covers the next higher frequency range and the Treble control adjusts the upper frequency range.
User Tip: When starting out, center all the tone controls and adjust while playing until the desired tone is achieved. Keep in mind that all tone and EQ circuits are gain-related, which means it may be necessary to re-adjust the Gain control once the desired tone is achieved. This will help you to retain the amount of clarity or `growl’ you desire.

  6. Low Expander Control
The Low Expander shapes the tone of the bass by extending the low frequency, reducing the mid frequencies (around 550 Hz) and taming the ultra highs.

  7. Master Volume Control
The Master volume adjusts the overall signal level of the amplifier; it is your master “loudness” control.

  8. Mute Switch / Tuner Out Jack
The Mute button cuts the audio signal to the speaker/s without affecting the Tuner output.

  9. Phones Jack
The Phone jack has been provided for connecting headphones which allows practice or recording without making any audible sound through the speakers. When you plug headphones in the Big Block, the amplifier is disconnected from the speaker/s.
Note : When the Phones jack is used, the XLR Line Out, Tuner jack and Effects Send jack are active and still function.

  10. EFX Send & EFX Return
The EFX Send (Pre-Amp Out) can be used as an effects send or for sending signal to another power amp. The EFX Return (Power Amp Input jack) goes directly to the Big Block’s power amplifier, bypassing the pre-amp. The EFX Return (Power Amp Input) allows audio signals from another pre-amp go directly to the power amp bypassing the Big Block’s internal preamp, including the tone stack.
Note: The selectable Limiter is applied directly to the signals entering the amplifier helping prevent damage to the amplifier and/or speakers.
Note: The output signal of the Effects Send (Pre-Amp Out) is set at 0 VU. When using the Effects Send (PreAmp Out) as an effects loop, it’s recommvended to use professional-grade signal processing equipment (pedal effects might not have enough headroom).

  11. Line Out XLR
The Big Block is equipped with a balanced D.I./Line output. You can select a direct, clean signal (Pre-EQ setting which delivers the sound directly to the Balanced Line Out) or tap the signal after the pre-amp (Post-EQ). Both signals are routed to the Balanced Line Out before the Master volume. A Ground Lift (lifts Pin 1 of the XLR) is also provided to help when routing signals directly to other equipment or mixing consoles.
Note : In the Lift position, Pin 1 of the XLR is disconnected which might help reduce ground loop hum when routing signals directly to other equipment or mixing consoles. If ground loop hum is not present, you may get superior shielding from outside noise sources with the button in the GND setting. In most cases, it is recommended to have the switch set to GND.
User Tip: When using the XLR Line out for recording direct-to-computer, we would recommend you insert a suitable device between the amp and computer such as A.R.T.’s TubeMP with USB for extra gain control and USB conversion.

  12. Speaker Output
The Speakon Speaker Output connector allows you to connect an external 8-ohm (min) speaker cabinet. Using an external speaker DOES NOT defeat the internal speaker!

  13. Tweeter In/Out Switch
The Tweeter switch disconnects the internal tweeter which provides a softer and more classic bass amplifier tone, for more brightness set the switch to the in position.
