ANALOG DEVICES ADAR5001-EVALZ 10 GHz to 40 GHz 2 Way RF Splitter Combiner
Specifications
- Frequency Range: 10 GHz to 40 GHz
- Connectors: 2.92 mm connectors
- Board Layers: 4-layer Rogers RO 4350B
- Calibration Paths: Through, open, and short (depopulated)
Product Usage Instructions
Operating the ADAR5001-EVALZ
A 2-port network analyzer is required to evaluate the ADAR5001-EVALZ. The through, open, and short lines can be used to de-embed the board trace losses, but these lines must be first populated with RF connectors.
Insertion Loss and Return Loss
Table 1 provides the insertion loss values for the through calibration path at different frequencies. Figure 3 illustrates the return loss and insertion loss for the through calibration path from 10 GHz to 40 GHz.
Evaluation Board Schematic and Artwork
Refer to the schematic (Figure 4) and assembly drawing (Figure 5) for detailed information on the board layout and components.
FAQ
Q: What equipment is needed to evaluate the ADAR5001-EVALZ?
A: You will need an RF network analyzer for evaluation.
Q: Is the ADAR5001-EVALZ ESD sensitive?
A: Yes, the ADAR5001-EVALZ is an ESD sensitive device. Proper ESD precautions should be taken to avoid damage or performance degradation.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
ADAR5001-EVALZ is a copper clad, 4-layer printed circuit board (PCB)
fabricated from 0.254 mm (10 mil) thick, Rogers 4350B. The central core is
prepreg, and there is an unused FR4 layer on the underside, which forms a
nominal thickness of 1.574 mm (62 mils). The P1, P2, and SUM ports on the
ADAR5001-EVALZ are populated with 2.92 mm, female coaxial connectors, and the
corresponding microstrip RF traces have a 50 Ω characteristic impedance. To
calibrate board trace losses, a through calibration path is provided between
the J6 and J7 connectors. Open and short paths are provided on the J5 and J4
connectors. Connectors J4, J5, J6 and J7 are de-populated and must be added to
use the calibration traces. Refer to Table 1 and Figure 3 for the through
calibration path performance.
For full details on the ADAR5001, see the ADAR5001 data sheet, which must be
consulted in conjunction with this user guide when using the ADAR5001-EVALZ.

ESD Caution
ESD (electrostatic discharge) sensitive device. Charged devices and circuit
boards can discharge without detection. Although this product features
patented or proprietary protection circuitry, damage may occur on devices
subjected to high energy ESD. Therefore, proper ESD precautions should be
taken to avoid performance degradation or loss of functionality.
