AXiom FP-1 Fuzz Preamp Classic Fuzz Pedals
The AXiom Fuzz Preamp FP-1 combines the best characteristics of the classic fuzz pedals with extended gain range, tonal control and versatility. At its heart, the Fuzz Preamp has a transistor-based fuzz stage that produces the huge transistor clipping and reactivity to your picking dynamics and guitar’s volume control that the best fuzz pedals are known for. It features a modified FUZZ control design and TREBLE control voicing that allows you to selectively dial in both the warmth and sensitivity of germanium transistor fuzzes or the harder edge and clarity of silicon fuzzes. The cascaded PREAMP section is designed to replicate the overdrive characteristics of a moderate gain tube preamp. Use the FUZZ control alone for a traditional fuzz, turn the FUZZ down and use the PREAMP control as a stand-alone overdrive, or use them both together to produce the harmonic-rich saturated sound of a fuzz pedal pushing a tube preamp (with singing sustain and compression that traditional fuzz pedals cannot achieve on their own).
- 100% analog circuitry
- Transistor-based fuzz
- True bypass
LEVEL
Increases output volume as the knob is turned clockwise (CW).
FUZZ
Adjusts the amount of clipping in the fuzz stage. This part of the circuit is configured similarly to a modified traditional fuzz pedal.
PREAMP
Adjusts the amount of gain added by the cascaded preamp stage. With PREAMP fully counter-CW the FP-1 will function as a traditional fuzz pedal. As PREAMP is turned CW the preamp section begins to clip, adding overdrive similar to a tube preamp being pushed by a fuzz pedal.
BASS
Increases bass frequencies as the knob is turned clockwise. In the fully clockwise position the FP-1 will pass a flat bass response.
MID
Adjusts mid frequencies as the knob is turned clockwise. In the 12:00 position the FP-1 will pass a flat mids response.
TREBLE
Increases treble frequencies as the knob is turned clockwise. In the fully clockwise position the FP-1 will pass a flat treble response.
TIPS
When using the FP-1 with solid-state or clean tube amps, use the PREAMP
control to add the extra gain and clipping that a crunchy tube amp would
provide.
When using the FP-1 with moderate to high gain tube amps dercrease the PREAMP
setting and use the FUZZ and LEVEL controls to push the amp into saturation.
