Control RIOT Receivers via WiFi using RIoT Control (without MINIHUB)
Follow this procedure to:
- Configure Receiver to log in to your local Wi-Fi.
- Pair your Smart Device directly to the Receiver.
- Learn Smart Device switches to Receiver Relay Outputs.
Safety Information
Carefully read the following safety information before proceeding with installation, operation, or maintenance of RF Solutions product. Failure to follow these warnings could result in death or serious injury
- This radio system must not be used in areas where there is a risk of explosion.
- Only qualified personnel should be permitted to access the transmitter and operate the equipment.
- Always follow operating information as well as all applicable safety procedures and requirements.
- You must satisfy the age requirements in your country for operating the equipment.
- Store in a safe place.
- Keep a clear view of the work area at all times before using, and check it is safe to do so
Before maintenance intervention on any remote-controlled equipment
- Do not open the receiver enclosure unless you are qualified.
- Disconnect all electrical power from the equipment.
- Check the enclosure and cable for damage regularly, do not use if there is evidence of damage.
Battery Precautions
- Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with a battery of an incorrect type.
- Do not short-circuit, disassemble, deform or heat batteries.
- Never attempt to charge a visibly damaged or frozen battery.
- Do not use or charge the battery if it appears to be leaking, deformed or damaged in any way.
- Immediately discontinue use of the battery if, while using, charging, or storing the battery, the battery emits an unusual smell, feels hot, changes color, changes shape, or appears abnormal in any other way.
Electrical Safety
ISOLATE the mains electricity supply before removing the cover and observe any relevant safety information.
- Maintenance to the product that involves removal of the cover should only be carried out by a competent person or qualified electrician.
- Ensure adequate protection on the Load circuit
- Refer to Product Datasheet for MAX Operating Load.
- The product must be installed in accordance with the local country’s electrical regulations.
- A current limiting supply must be used in accordance with the datasheet
Receiver Status
Throughout the setup process, the WHITE Net LED provides status information.
Please be patient when configuring Wi-Fi, it can take up to 30 seconds to
update.

Setup Procedure: Before you Start
You need a Smartphone / Tablet or Smart device connected to your local Wi-Fi
Download the following Apps from the Google Play or App Store:
Then, Apply Power to the Receiver unit.
Please refer to ‘Additional Information to view a wiring example.
You now need to complete the following Tasks:

Apply Power to the Receiver.

Press and hold the LEARN button until the red LEARN LED stays ON. (takes ~5 seconds),

Release the LEARN Button.

The NET LED will Flash 2X. The receiver is now broadcasting its Wi-Fi SSID.

On your Android Smart device, run the Wi-Fi Wizard App. (Please note Location Services must be enabled)

Receiver SSID will appear on the Smart device app.

Select “ELXXXX” and “Connect” to open the Wi-Fi Setup page.

Select the Wi-Fi Network your Smart Device is connected to. Input your password and press ‘set’.

The app will prompt you to reboot your RIoT Device. Select ‘Yes’, then exit and close the Wi-Fi Wizard app.
Wi-Fi reset
- Apply power with ERASE button held down.
- Continue holding ERASE Button until Erase LED illuminates constantly (~10sec)
- Release the ERASE Button.

Apply Power to the Receiver.

Press and hold the LEARN Button until the Red LEARN LED stays ON. (takes ~5 seconds),

Release the LEARN Button.

The NET LED will Flash 2X. The receiver is now broadcasting its Wi-Fi SSID.

On your Apple / IOS smart device, run the Wi-Fi Wizard App. (Please note Location Services must be enabled)

Press ‘>‘, which will take you to your Wi-Fi settings. Select “ELXXXX”, then return to the Wi-Fi Wizard app.

Wait for the Receiver to connect to your app.

Enter the Wi-Fi network details you are setting up your receiver to. Ensure each character is correct, including upper/lower cases.

Press ‘save to HUB’. Your receiver NET LED will now rapidly flash.

When the NET LED returns to a solid white state, your receiver is connected to Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi reset
- Apply power with ERASE button held down.
- Continue holding ERASE Button until Erase LED illuminates constantly (~10sec)
- Release the ERASE Button.

Run a RIoT CONTROL App

Select Menu, then ‘Add New Receiver’.

Your Smart Device is now ready to pair with the Receiver.

On the receiver, briefly press and release the LEARN Button, (receiver transmits a Learn Signal, the DataLED switches off briefly).

Sense APP will show a “Receiver Detected” message.

Select Yes.
-
Your Smart Device is now paired with the receiver.
Note: PROFILES
Riot Control App can operate with Multiple Receivers and RIoT-MINIHUBs located
in different physical locations.
In order to differentiate these, each is set as a Profile. So for example the
user may have; A Receiver at Home, a Receiver at Work, in a shed, etc.

AUTO LEARN a 4 Button transmitter:
Automatically learns transmitter channel 1, 2, 3, 4 to receiver relay 1, 2, 3, 4:
- Briefly (~1Sec) press LEARN button on RIoT Receiver;
- All relay LEDs Flash at a high rate;
- Press ANY button of a 4 Button Transmitter on your chosen RIoT Control app;
- All LEDs will go out, wait 3 seconds to confirm.
Please note: If you are using the RIoT Control Pro app, you will need to create 4 separate buttons, each on a separate channel (Button 1—4 on Channel 1–4). See Additional Information on setting up buttons on RIoT Control Pro.
MANUAL LEARN a new Transmitter:
Individual Learn any individual transmitter switch to individual receiver
relay(s). For example:
Transmitter SW1 can control Receiver Relay 2,
Transmitter SW2 can control Receiver Relays 2,3 and 4.
- Briefly (~1Sec) repeat Press the LEARN button until the chosen Relay LED is flashing.
- Briefly Press the SPECIFIC transmitter button you wish to Learn to this Relay output.
- LEARN LED will flash quickly for 2 seconds to confirm. Your switch will now operate your paired relay.
ERASE ALL transmitters:
- Press and hold the ERASE button for 10 seconds;
- All relay LEDs flash together and then go out;
- Erase complete.
NOTE:
A maximum of 128 BUTTONS can be Learnt. You cannot mix Auto Learn and Manual
LEARN!
Additional Information

RIoT Control Standard Handset Setup:
If you are using the RIoT Control standard version, various preset button
variations can be selected.
Acknowledgment Feature:
Using the ‘Acknowledgement’ Feature, you are able to monitor the current
status of each receiver relay (On or Off) from anywhere.
Riot Control Pro Handset Setup:
If you are using the RIoT Control Pro Version, you can create your own custom
button, then give this a custom name.
To do this, follow the below steps:

In the app, go to Add/Edit Buttons, then ‘+’.

Enter your Button Name.
-
Select your channel. When using this with the RIoT-8R4, you will need to create separate buttons on 4 separate channels (Buttons 1—4 on Channel 1—4).

Select your preferred Button style.
-
Select your Control type—so a Momentary, ON/OFF, or Timer. This will depend on the Button Style you have chosen.

Select ‘Create’.
Acknowledgment Feature:
This enables the end user to monitor the status of their relays from anywhere.
To enable this, tick ‘Feedback’ on the button setup.
