To ensure the best possible level of protection and comfort when using this hard hat, it is essential to read and observe the following information. The hard hat is designed for use when working with chain saws (e.g. timber harvesting). The level of protection in other applications cannot be predicted.

WARNING! For adequate protection this helmet must fit the user‘s head correctly and be adjusted to the size of the user’s head. The helmet is designed to absorb the energy of a blow by partial destruction or damaging to the shell and the harness, and even if this damage is not easily visible, a helmet that has been subjected to a severe blow must be replaced. The user is also advised of the hazards that may result from modification or removal of an original component of the helmet if not recommended by the helmet manufacturer. Helmets should not be adapted for the purpose of fitting attachments in any way not recommended by the helmet manufacturer. Do not apply paint, solvents, adhesives or self-adhesive labels, except in accordance with instructions from the helmet manufacturer.

Important Points
No personal protective equipment can provide absolute protection against injury. The degree of protection depends on many factors. This hard hat and its components are no substitute for a safe working technique. Improper use of a power tool can result in accidents.

  • It is therefore essential to observe the safety regulations issued by  the authorities concerned (employer’s liability insurance associations, etc.) and the safety instructions in the Instruction Manual of the power tool being used.
  • Check the hard hat and its components every time before use to make sure they are in perfect condition (e.g. visual condition).
  • Dispose of the hard hat and/or components immediately if they are damaged or have been modified in any way.
  • Materials that come into contact with the wearer’s skin can cause allergic reactions in persons with sensitive skin.

Cleaning

STIHL hard hats are technical products and need to be treated and looked after as such in order to maintain their safety function.

  • The helmet shell and interior can be cleaned with lukewarm soapy water (do not clean in a washing machine).
  • The sweatband must be replaced regularly.
  • Do not use substances containing solvent or aggressive substances to clean the hard hat. Incorrect cleaning and maintenance can damage the hard hat and reduce or disable its protective function.
  • Follow the cleaning and maintenance instructions.

Avoiding damage

  • To avoid damage to the material do not allow the hard hat or its components to come into contact with pointed or sharp objects (saw chains, metal tools, etc.) or aggressive substances (such as aggressive detergents, acids, oils, solvents, fuels, etc.).
  • Avoid contact with hot objects (muffler, etc.) and other sources of heat (open fire, stove, etc.).

Storage and transport

Suitable packaging protects the hard hat during transport.

  • The hard hat should preferably be stored in its original packaging in a well ventilated, dry room.
  • Do not expose it to extreme temperatures, liquids or UV radiation.

Repair
It is not possible to repair this hard hat! The hard hat must be discarded straight away if it is damaged. Subsequent modifications (e.g. drilling holes in the hard hat) are not permissible and impair its protective effect.

Criteria for disgarding

  • Examine the hard hat at regular intervals for visible faults (e.g. cracking, discoloration). A hard hat that is altered or damaged must be replaced immediately.
  • After stress, e.g. a heavy blow, the helmet must be replaced immediately, even if the damage is not visible externally.

Service life

The helmet should not be used for more than four years from the date of manufacture printed on it (see date dial in the helmet shell) and it should not be used for more than 3,500 hours from the date of first use.

  • It is important to replace the helmet in good time. The helmet begins to age with the first day of use. Please note the label with the indication “date of issue“.
