Safety instructions

General safety
WARNING! Failure to obey these warnings could result in death or serious injury.

Explosion hazard

  • The hob and oven may only be repaired by qualified personnel. Inadequate repairs may cause serious hazards.
  • Do not modify the hob and oven.
  • Do not remove or replace any components of the device.
  • Replace porous or damaged hoses immediately.
  • Avoid twisting or kinking the gas hose.
  • The hob and oven shall only be used with CE approved gas hose and regulator (recommended by your retailer) and must be connected only to a butane or propane gas cylinder (recommended by your retailer).
    • Do not use adapters or modify the hob and oven to fit other connectors or cylinders.
    • Do not attempt to fit other types of gas containers or cartridges.!

CAUTION! Failure to obey these cautions could result in minor or moderate injury.

Fire Hazard

  • Only adults shall operate the hob and oven.
  • Do not leave the hob and oven unattended when hot or in use.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher or other means suitable to extinguish a flame ready.

Burn hazard

  • Keep hands, face and hair away from burners.
  • Use long matches or long-nosed lighter to light the hob and oven.
  • Do not wear loose clothing or allow long hair to hang freely while lighting or using the hob and oven.
  • Keep children and pets safely away.

Carefully monitor all activity around the hob and oven to avoid burns or other injuries.

Operating the device safely
DANGER! Failure to obey this instruction will cause death or serious injury.

Hazard of carbon monoxide poisoning

  • Never use the hob and oven indoors. The process of burning liquid gas produces carbon monoxide which accumulates inside enclosed areas.
  • Do not operate the device in unventilated areas such as enclosed premises, tents, motor vehicles, motor homes, caravans, ships, yachts, boots, and truck cabs.
  • Use outdoors only.

Beware of suffocation

  • Operating the hob and oven in an unventilated area will reduce the amount of oxygen in this area.
    WARNING! Failure to obey these warnings could result in death or serious injury.
    Explosion hazard

  • Only operate the hob and oven at the pressure shown on the type plate. Only use pressure controllers with a fixed setting which comply with the national regulations.

  • The hob and oven shall only be used in an above-ground open-air situation with natural ventilation, without stagnant areas, where gas leakage and products of combustion are rapidly dispersed by wind and natural convection.

  • Do not use the hob and oven if it is leaking, damaged or does not operate properly.

  • Check that seals between the device and the gas cylinder are in place and in good condition before connecting the gas cylinder.

  • Do not use the device if it has damaged or worn seals.

  • Do not place chemicals, flammable materials or spray aerosols near this device.

  • Never use a naked flame to check the hob and oven for leaks.

  • If you smell gas:

    • Close the gas supply valve on the cylinder.
    • Do not press an electric switch.
    • Put out any naked flames.
    • Have the gas system checked by a specialist.
  • Do not operate with panels, covers or guards removed from the hob and oven without ventilation.

  • Always attach or detach the gas cylinder outdoors away from a naked flame, pilot light or other source of ignition and only when the hob and oven is cool to touch.

  • Do not allow the gas hose to come in contact with any hot surfaces.

  • Inspect the gas hose for damage such as burns, chafing, and kinks before each use.

Fire hazard

  • Do not operate the hob and oven within 100 cm of any combustible material including walls and ceiling.
  • Gas cylinders must remain upright to prevent liquid gas flare-up.
  • Do not place any objects other than food on or against the hob and oven.
  • Never place the hob and oven near flammable materials (paper, dry leaves, textiles).
  • Keep flammable objects away from the burner.
  • In case of fire, shut off the gas supply.

Burn hazard

  • Do not move the hob and oven during use.
  • Use protective gloves when handling hot components.
  • Leave the hob and oven to cool down properly before you touch it with bare hands.
  • Accessible parts may be very hot. Keep young children away.
  • The use of alcohol or prescription or non-prescription drugs may impair your ability to properly assemble or safely operate this device.
  • When deep frying with oil, a thermometer must be used. Never allow oil temperature to get hotter than 200 °C. If the temperature exceeds 200 °C or if oil begins to smoke, immediately turn the burners off.
  • When cooking with oil, fire-extinguishing materials shall be readily accessible. In the event of an oil or grease fire do not attempt to extinguish with water. Use a Type BC dry chemical fire extinguisher or smother fire with a fire blanket, earth, sand, or baking soda.
  • Never overfill the cookware with oil, grease, or water. Follow instructions in this manual for establishing proper oil, grease or water levels.
  • When frying with oil, all food products must be completely thawed and towel dried to remove excess water. Failure to completely thaw and dry food may cause oil to overflow. Follow instructions in this manual for frying foods.
  • When frying, slowly submerse food products into the oil. Do not drop.
  • Do not place empty cookware onto a lit burner. Use caution when placing anything in the cookware while burner is in operation.
  • In the event of rain while cooking with oil, immediately turn off burners and gas supply, then cover the cookware. Do not attempt to move the device or the cookware.

Health hazard

  • Only operate the hob and oven when an adult can attend to it.

Safety precautions when handling liquid gas

WARNING! Failure to obey these warnings could result in death or serious injury.

Explosion hazard

  • After use always disconnect the liquid gas cylin- der.
  • Store liquid gas cylinders away from heating or cooking devices and other light or heat sources in a well-ventilated area out of the reach of  children.
  • Never store liquid gas cylinders in unventilatedareas or below ground level (funnel-shaped holes in the ground).
  • Never store liquid gas cylinders in buildings such as garages.
  • Any indoor storage must comply with national regulations.
  • Do not store liquid gas cylinders on their side.
  • Keep liquid gas cylinders away from direct sunlight. The temperature should not exceed 50 °C.

Intended use

The Roast Master hob and oven is suitable for:

  • heating up and cooking food outdoors The hob and oven is not suitable for:
  • use as a heating device
  • operation in enclosed buildings, tents or awning tents
  • operation on caravans, mobile homes or boats

This product is only suitable for the intended purpose and application in accordance with these instructions. This manual provides information that is necessary for proper installation and/or operation of the product. Poor installation and/or improper operating or maintenance will result in unsatisfactory per- formance and a possible failure. The manufacturer accepts no liability for any injury or damage to the product resulting from:

  • Incorrect assembly or connection, including excess voltage
  • Incorrect maintenance or use of spare parts other than original spare parts provided by the manufacturer
  • Alterations to the product without express permission from the manufacturer
  • Use for purposes other than those described in this manual

Technical description

The hob and oven has two burners. The hob and oven is designed to be connected to a gas cylinder. Heat intensity can be adjusted using the temperature control knob.

Setting up the hob and oven

Before initial use
➤Remove all packaging.
➤Always use gas accessories complying with the national regulations in your country (e.g.
EN 417, EN 484 and EN 498):

  • butane or propane gas container (not supplied) gas regulator (28 – 30 mbar for butane, 37 mbar for propane) (not supplied)
  • gas hose (maximum length 1.5 m) (not supplied)

➤Open the lid and attach the windscreens to the side of the oven as shown (fig.1, page 3).
➤Make sure the trivet/wire pan stand is installed properly with the wire ends fitting into the holes on the top of the oven.

Finding a suitable location

WARNING! Fire hazard
The location for setting up the hob and oven has to meet the following requirements:

  • outdoors only
  • open, well-ventilated area which is protected from direct winds
  • placing surface for the hob and oven
    • out of heat-proof, non-combustible or non-flammable materials
    • standing level on or above the ground
  • solid, stable and flat level

➤Place the device on a surface that meets the above requirements.
➤Straighten out all hoses to make sure no kinks or twists remain.

Connecting to a gas container

WARNING! Explosion hazard

  • Only change gas containers outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from naked flames, any other source of ignition, and other people.
  • Do not use the device if the sealing washer is damaged or worn.
  • Do not try to detect gas leaks using a flame or a pilot light.
  • Only connect the hob and oven to an allowed gas container type.

NOTICE!

  • Take care not to cross thread.
  • Tighten the screw connection by hand only.
  1. Attach the gas hose to the stove inlet (see fig.2, page 3).

  2. Attach the other end to the low pressure regulator (see fig.3, page 4).

  3. Be sure the regulator is correctly connected to the gas cylinder.

  4. Connect the gas regulator to the gas cylinder following the manufacturers instruction.

  5. Check that all connections are tight.

  6. Turn on the gas regulator.
    WARNING! Explosion hazard
    Do not try to detect gas leaks using a flame or a pilot light.

  7. Check all connections for gas leaks:
    • Coat all connections, using soapy water.
    • If bubbles appear, immediately turn off the gas regulator and re-tighten the connection before re-testing.
    • If bubbles appear again, do not continue to use the device. Contact an authorized service agent.

  8. If no leaks are detected, turn the regulator valve to the “OFF” position.

Using the hob and oven
WARNING! Fire hazard

  • Make sure that all air inlets and exhausts are kept free from obstruction and closure.
  • The device must be operated no closer than 100 cm to the sides and 100 cm above all combustible surfaces, fabrics, flammable materials and persons.

CAUTION! Burn hazard

  • Do not lean over the hob and oven while lighting.
  • Do not move the device during use.
  • Do not touch the hot parts of the device during and after use. Leave the device to cool down properly.

Lighting the hob

  1. Remove all cookware to create a free flow of air.
  2. Open the top lid. Do not attempt to light the stove with the lid closed.
  3. Fully open the gas regulator valve.
  4. Turn the hob control knob (see fig. 1 4, 6 page 3) slowly to the “MAX” position. ✔ The burner will ignite.
  5. Adjust the control knob to the desired temperature between the “MIN” and “MAX” position.

If the burner does not stay lit, repeat the process.
If the ignition does not occur in 5 seconds, turn the burner control off, wait 5 minutes, and repeat the lighting procedure.
If the built-in ignition will not light use a match for lighting:

  1. Light a match and place it over the burner.
  2. Slowly turn on the hob control knob.

Lighting the oven
The oven is fitted with a flame failure device. If the oven burner accidentally goes out, then the gas supply will be cut off.

  1. Remove all cookware to create a free flow of air.
  2. Open the oven door. Do not attempt to light the stove with the oven door closed.
  3. Remove the bottom oven tray to reveal the burner.
  4. Fully open the gas regulator valve.
  5. Depress the oven control knob (see fig. 1 5 page 3) and slowly turn it to the “MAX” position. ✔ The burner will ignite.
  6. Keep the oven control knob depressed for 10 seconds to engage the flame failure device.
  7. Adjust the control knob to the desired temperature between the “MIN” and “MAX” position.

If the built-in ignition will not light use a match for lighting:

  1. Light a match and place it over the burner.
  2. Slowly turn on the oven control knob.

Cooking
WARNING! Explosion hazard

  • For deep frying and cooking with oil, a cooking thermometer must be used. Be sure thermometer is in good working condition.
  • Do not over fill the cookware with cooking liquid.
  • Never fill cookware more than half full of cooking oil or past the maximum fill line.
  • Use only accessories, such as cookware recommended by the seller, to allow safe and proper performance of the product. Never use cookware larger than the capacity and diameter recommended by the seller.
  • The maximum pot diameter is 25 cm, the minimum pot diameter is 17 cm.

Switching off

  1. Turn all control knobs to the “OFF” position.
  2. Check that the device is fully extinguished.
  3. Turn off the gas supply at the gas cylinder after use.

Disconnecting the hob and oven from the gas container

WARNING! Explosion hazard
Only change gas containers outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from naked flames, any other source of ignition, and other people.

  1. Check that the device is fully extinguished, the control valve is closed (see chapter “Switching off” on page 9) and all surfaces are cool.

  2. Disconnect the regulator from the gas cylinder.
    NOTE
    The gas container may be disconnected although some gas remains.

  3. Check the contents of the gas container by shaking the gas container. If there is a sound or feeling of liquid movement, the cylinder contains gas.

  4. If necessary, dispose of the gas container according to the instructions printed on the gas container.

Cleaning and maintenance

CAUTION! Burn hazard
The device is very hot when you use it.
Leave the device to cool down before you clean, pack up or transport it.

Cleaning the device

NOTICE!
Do not clean any part in the self-cleaning oven as this may damage the finish.
➤Clean the stove top surface with soapy water and a nylon cleaning pad.

Burner
➤Clean the burner with a wire.
➤Use hot soapy water and a soft bristle brush to clean the burner surface.
➤Ensure that corroded or damaged burners are replaced by an authorized service agent.

Maintenance
➤Tighten all hardware on a regular basis (1 to 2 times a year or more depending on usage).
➤Ensure that an authorized service agent performs a maintenance check at least every 5 years.

Storing the hob and oven

WARNING! Explosion hazard
Do not store or transport the hob and oven while it is still connected to a gas container.

  1. Disconnect the hob and oven from the gas container (see chapter “Disconnecting the hob and oven from the gas container” on page 9).
  2. Store the device and the gas container in a cool, dry and well ventilated area free from direct sunlight, heat and ignition sources.

Troubleshooting

Fault Suggested remedy
The hob and oven fails to light. Contact your dealer or an

authorized repair center.
The heating performance decreases.

Warranty

The statutory warranty period applies. If the product is defective, please contact the manufacturer’s branch in your country (see kampaoutdoors.com /store-locator) or your retailer.
For repair and warranty processing, please include the following documents when you send in the device:

  • A copy of the receipt with purchase date
  • A reason for the claim or description of the fault

Disposal

➤Place the packaging material in the appropriate recycling waste bins, wherever possible.
If you wish to finally dispose of the product, ask your local recycling center or specialist dealer for details about how to do this in accordance with the applicable disposal regulations.
