Supplemental Instructions

Bleeding air from the coolant system:
Note: The inlet hose mentioned below refers to the line that sends coolant from the engine to the radiator.

  1. Follow the bleeding procedure included in your instructions. If after following the procedure listed in the instructions you still do not get hot air from your heater (at fast idle & engine is hot), then perform the procedure below.
  2. Ensure that all coolant levels are filled to the manufacturers recommended levels before starting.
  3. Start your SxS and run the engine at fast idle (3000 rpm) until the engine is hot.
  4. Locate the inlet hose to the radiator. Pinch off the inlet hose after the radiator Y, so that the majority of the coolant is bypassed through the cab heater. You may need a shop rag to protect your fingers from the heat of the hose.
  5. Do this until the radiator fan turns on. Let go of the hose until the fan turns off. Pinch the hose again and complete one more fan on/off cycle.
  6. Turn the machine off and let the engine cool down completely (this can take several hours).
  7. Check the fluid level in the radiator and the reservoir and fill accordingly.
  8. Repeat steps #3-6 once more.
The above is assuming that you followed the “garden hose” section of the instructions that came with your heater.

Black Shipping Plugs:
Please remove the black plugs that are found on the heater core lines (copper pipes on the back of the cab heater). These are used for keeping the core lines free of dust and debris during shipping.

  25. Reconnect the battery; turn the key on to check fan operation.
  26. Disconnect the battery.
  27. Use cable ties as necessary to secure the wiring loom.

Coolant Setup

  1. Drain the cooling system by removing the lower radiator hose.
Important Tip: Raise the front of vehicle on jack stands or ramps before draining the cooling system.
This will help in preventing air locks and you won’t have to drain the whole cooling system.

  2. Position the radiator Y connectors as shown in Figure 6a, 6b & 6c.
Before cutting the radiator hoses, be sure that the placement of Y’s will not interfere with any part of the vehicle.
NOTE: The driver side of the radiator is the INLET side.YAMAHA ICCH-
BD-C-YAMRH Rhino Compact Cab Heater Kit 10

  3. Cut the radiator hoses as shown in Figure 6a & 6b. When running hoses make large bends, so as not to crimp the hose as shown in Figure 6d.
Note: Before cutting the radiator hoses, be sure that the placement of Y’s will not interfere with any part of the vehicle. Be sure the hose connected to the temperature control valve of the heater is connected to the top radiator hose.YAMAHA ICCH-BD-C-YAMRH Rhino Compact Cab Heater Kit
11

  4. Cut the heater hoses to length.

  5. Before connecting the hoses to the Y connectors, we recommend using a garden hose to run water through the heater hose and heater assembly. This step must be carried out as it forces air bubbles out of the heater core. Filling the heater core without the pressure of the garden hose leaves the chance for air pockets inside the core. This will lead to no or limited heating d’uring operation.

  6. Fit the hose to the Y connector and tighten the clamps. Make sure all hoses are as far away as possible from the driveshaft, steering shaft and sharp areas, etc.

  7. Use cable.,ties as necessary.

  8. Refill the cooling system as per the manufacturer’s procedure.

  9. Start and run the vehicle at a fast idle and run up to normal operating temperature.

  10. Check for leaks.

  11. Check the heater operation.

  12. Allow vehicle to cool and recheck the cooling system level and coolant ratio, fill and/or alter coolant ratio as required. If the heater fails to blow hot/warm air once the vehicle is up to operating temperature, there may be an air lock in the heater unit.

  13. Temporarily block off the top/inlet radiator hose between the Y fitting and radiator.

  14. Start and run the vehicle up to operating temperature.

  15. Feel the outlet/lower hose from the heater until it feels hot. The heater now should be blowing hot/warm air.
Remove the clamp from the radiator hose. The heater should continue to blow hot/warm air. This procedure may have to be repeated a few times to remove the air from system. Allow the vehicle to cool, restart the vehicle and run up to operating temperature. Recheck the heater operation.
Please note: the heater output will be limited at idle. All testing should be done at a fast idle.

Defrost Duct Installation

  1. Attach the 2.5″ duct hose to the defrost duct and secure with a cable tie.

  2. Drill the duct hole ap roximatel as shown in Figure 7.YAMAHA ICCH-BD-C-YAMRH Rhino Compact Cab Heater Kit 12

  3. Determine where you wish to install defrost vents; Figure 8a, 8b and 8c show approximately where the vents can be located. Be sure the are clear of any windshield fittings.YAMAHA ICCH-BD-C-YAMRH Rhino Compact Cab Heater Kit 13

  4. Using the 2″ hole saw drill the holes for the vents.
Before drilling any holes, check area behind the dash panels to make sure no damage will occur by drilling holes and that there is sufficient room for the vent and hose.

  5. Stretch the duct hose from the heater defrost elbow leading toward the back and up under the dash. This hose will eventually be cut into three hoses (DO NOT CUT NOW).

    • The first will connect the heater defrost vent to the 2.5″ duct Y under the dash.
    • The remaining hose will be cut again and connect the two open Y ports to the 2″ vents that fit in your dash.
  6. Before making the first cut in the hose, verify that the remaining hose will stretch from the Duct Y to the (2) 2″ vents.

  7. Once verified, cut the hoses accordingly, using a wire cutter.

  8. Attach the first hose to the heater defrost elbow and secure it with cable ties.

  9. Connect the other end to the 2.5″ duct Y and secure it with cable ties.

  10. Connect the two remaining hoses to the 2.5″ duct Y and run them through the 3″ holes in your dash.

  11. Connect the hoses to the 2″ vents and secure with cable ties.

  12. Stretch the duct hose from the heater to up behind the dash to a length past up in behind the dash area.

  13. Cut the hose, making sure you have enough hose to go between the defrost vents.

  14. Attach the duct Y to the heater duct and secure with a cable tie.

  15. Divide and cut the remaining duct hose in half.

  16. Attach each piece to the duct Y and secure with a cable tie.

  17. Run each hose out to the vent hole and pass through the hole in the dash.

  18. Attach to the vent inlet and secure with cable ties.

  19. Use Figure 9 as a guide.YAMAHA ICCH-BD-C-YAMRH Rhino Compact Cab Heater Kit 14

  20. Place Vents into the holes and push down carefully until the vents snap into place.
Important Tip: Cleaning any burs from around the hole with a knife will make installing the vent into place easier.
