PC Compatibility
While the Recon 50P headset was originally designed to be used with a PS4 console, it can also be used with a PC, under the correct circumstances.
If your computer has a single jack for both headset audio and mic audio, you will be able to plug the headset directly into that single jack and use the headset with your computer.
If your computer has separate jacks, one each for headset audio and mic audio, you will need a PC Splitter Cable for full functionality with that particular computer. Usually these separate jacks are identified either by color (Green/Pink), or by images of a mic/headset next to the individual jacks.
Windows Sonic Surround Sound
Microsoft recently introduced Windows Sonic Surround Sound for Xbox One , which means that a gaming headset connected directly to the controller or to the console’s USB/Optical ports can now deliver immersive virtual surround sound.
Additionally, you’ll be able to choose between Windows Sonic for Headphones (which is free), or Dolby Atmos for Headphones (sold separately). Whatever you decide, having surround sound provides a much more in-depth experience, and even offers a competitive advantage, so make sure you give it a try.
WINDOWS SONIC SETUP
Here’s how to set up your Recon 50P headset with Xbox One’s new Surround Sound feature:
1. Press the Xbox button on the controller while in the Xbox One Home Screen.
2. Go to the System tab (gear icon) > > Settings >> General >> Volume & Audio Output
3. Set Headset Audio Headset Format to **Windows Sonic for Headphones.***
***** At this point, you can also select Dolby Atmos for Headphones, if applicable. (sold separately).
No Mic Audio On PlayStation
If other players are unable to hear you in chat on your PlayStation Console, please check the following:
1. The Mic Boom Isn’t Loose in the Mic Boom Jack.
First, unplug the headset from the controller. Then, disconnect the mic boom by pulling it straight out of the headset and plug the mic boom back in, making sure you hear a ‘click’ indicating that the mic boom is connected securely. (This may take a couple of tries; if you are having difficulty plugging the mic boom back in, note the metal key alignment.) Finally, plug the headset back into the controller and try to use it in chat.
2. The Headset Works With Another Device.
If the headset’s mic still isn’t working, plug the headset into a mobile phone and try making a call. Make sure the mobile phone itself is covered, to better ensure that the phone’s internal mics do not pick up the sound instead of the headset’s mic.
If the other person could not hear you in the call, then there may be an issue with the mic boom; continue to Step 3. If the other person is able to hear you in the call, then the headset and microphone are working properly; skip to Step 4.
3. The Mic Boom Is Working Properly.
To verify the mic boom itself is functioning, you can connect it directly to a Microphone jack on a PC and perform a recording test:
-
Disconnect the mic boom from the headset and plug it into the Microphone / Line In Jack on your PC.
-
In Windows, right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and click ‘Recording devices’.
-
Right click the Microphone / Line In input that the mic boom is plugged into. If you do not see a green check next to the device, click ‘Set as Default’. When it’s the default device, click ‘Properties’.
-
Click the ‘ Levels ‘ tab. Move the ‘Microphone’ and ‘Microphone Boost’ levels to halfway (or close to that). Then click ‘OK’.
-
On the Sound Settings screen, click the ‘Playback’ tab and make sure your Computer speakers are enabled so you can hear audio playback.
-
Open the Windows Sound Recorder by going to Start > Accessories > Sound Recorder or search for ‘Sound Recorder’
-
Start recording, then say something or snap your fingers near the mic boom. Click ‘Stop Recording’ , then you’ll be prompted to save the file.
-
Save the file to your Desktop or another convenient folder.
- Double click the file to open it with your media player, then listen for the sound you recorded previously.
If you were unable to hear any sound in the recording, then the mic boom will need to be replaced. If you were able to hear the sound you recorded but the mic wasn’t working during the mobile phone test, then there may be an issue with the headset itself. Please contact our Support Team for additional assistance.
4. Console Settings Are Configured Correctly.
Review your console settings to make sure they’re configured as follows:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Audio Devices
- Set Input & Output Device to Headset Connected to Controller.
- Set Output to Headphones to All Audio.
- Set Volume Control (Headphones) level to maximum
- Select Adjust Microphone Level and follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate your microphone.
-
If your mic was detected on the Adjust Microphone Level screen, then the headset and mic are working with the PS4 properly. If other players still cannot hear you in chat, check your network connection or in-game chat settings.
-
If your mic was not detected on the Adjust Microphone Level screen, contact our Support Team.

Voice Chat Issues With Nintendo Switch
If you are experiencing the following symptoms when you use your headset with Fortnite on a Nintendo Switch, please try the steps below:
- Mic Not Working in Chat (you can’t be heard in chat)
- Chat Audio Not Working (you cannot hear other people in chat)
You may need to re-enable the in-game chat. In addition, you may need to disable the Push-to-Talk feature.
To do so:
1. Make sure you are logged in to your profile. Once you are logged in, press the + button on the switch to bring up the Social menu. Scroll down to and then select the gear icon on the bottom of the left sidebar.
2. The sidebar will change in appearance from your friends list to a list of several different options. Select the “Settings” option, as shown below.
3. You will see several tabs on the top of the screen. Scroll to the Speaker tab – this is the Audio Settings tab. Then, scroll down to section labelled “Voice Chat”.
There will be two toggle settings: Voice Chat and Voice Chat Method.
- Voice Chat is ON by default. To be able to hear and be heard in chat, this setting needs to be ON. If this setting is turned off, you will not be able to hear the chat audio, and you will not be able to be heard in chat.
- Voice Chat Method is set to PUSH-TO-TALK by default. To be able to be heard in chat whenever you speak, this setting needs to be OPEN MIC. If this setting is set to PUSH-TO-TALK, you will not be heard in chat unless you press a specific button when you speak into the mic.
Make sure that the Voice Chat is On and the Voice Chat Method is set to Open Mic , and then test the headset again. You should be able to hear and be heard in the chat.
If you have re-enabled game chat, but you are still having issues with hearing or being heard in chat, please contact our support team for further assistance.
