General Precautions

  • Keep the unit more than 1 m (3.3′) away from the radio or TV set.
  • Keep the station at least 20 cm (7-7/8″) away from wireless devices such as wireless routers, or cordless telephones. These devices may cause image or sound distortion.
  • When making hands-free calls, talk within 30cm (12″) or less from the station. If you stand too far away, it may be difficult for the other person to hear the communication.
  • When installing or using the station, consider the privacy rights of subjects, as it is the responsibility of the system owner to post signs or warnings by local ordinances.
  • To prevent sensitive information stored in the station from being lost or stolen, it is the customer’s responsibility to delete recorded data, when moving in, moving out, discarding, transferring, or returning the station. Refer to the relevant page of this document for information on how to clear information.
  • Deleting a recorded image (JV-1MD only) (P.15)
  • As to other 3rd party devices (such as sensors, detectors, and door releases) used with this system, comply with the Specifications and Warranty conditions that the manufacturers or venders present.
  • Do not install the monitor station under direct sunlight. If it is necessary, shield the station from sunlight or the screen may be difficult to view.
  • The door station is splashproof, but do not spray with high-pressure water. This may result in malfunction.

  • This product cannot be used during power outages.
  • If the station is used in areas where there are business-use wireless devices such as a transceiver or mobile phones, it may cause malfunction.
  • This station is not meant to protect lives or property. Aiphone is not to be held responsible for any resulting serious accidents, disaster accidents, or physical damage.
  • It must be noted in advance that the LCD panel inevitably will have a very small portion of its picture elements always lit or not lit it at all. This is not considered a station malfunction.
  • The station may become slightly warm. However, this is not a malfunction.
  • Hands-free calls are a method of automatically switching between the transmitter and receiver so that the louder of the two is prioritized, making it audible by the quieter of the two.
  • If the surrounding area is loud, the call may be interrupted, making it difficult to respond.
  • During communication, the voice may not come through clearly when speaking before the other party has finished talking.
  • Communication will proceed smoothly when waiting until the other party has finished before speaking.
  • The noise reduction function may determine that certain tones are noise and cut transmission of those tones. This is not a malfunction.
  • This product is for wall-mounting use only. This product cannot be used on the desktop.
  • Warm-color lighting shining on the door station may change the tint of the image on the screen.
  • If light enters the camera, the brightness of the LCD could flicker, while the subject of the camera could become darker due to the backlight. This is not a malfunction.
  • The background or colors could differ from the actual image if a striped pattern or other fine pattern is displayed. This is not a malfunction.
  • If light from an LED light, fluorescent light, etc., enters the camera on the Video Door Station, black stripes could appear on the LCD, the screen could flicker, or the colors could change. This is not a malfunction.
  • When the outside temperature lowers sharply after rainfall, etc., the inside of the camera may fog up slightly, causing blurry images, but this is not a malfunction. Normal operation will be restored when moisture evaporates.
  • Using a fluorescent light could periodically alter the color of the screen (color rolling). This is not a malfunction.
  • Aiphone assumes no responsibility for the corruption of saved information (such as changes to or deletion of saved information).
  • Be aware of this in advance.
  • Freezing conditions may affect the video quality and button functionality.
  • Aiphone is not to be held responsible for any damages resulting from the information being leaked or tampered with or due to interception, unauthorized access, or other reasons along the communication path.
  • Available functions and services are limited according to the specifications of the installed system.
  • If there is no power for 15 minutes or more, the date and time return to default.
  • The buttons on monitor stations are capacitive. The station will function when a conductive object touches a button. A large water droplet on a button may result in unexpected operation.
  • At night, less light on the subject causes noise increment on the monitor image. This noise, it may make hard to see a face, but this is not malfunctioning.

However, it may not become brighter depending on local conditions since day and night are automatically detected by the door station.

Setting the date and time JV-1MD only

NOTE

  • If there is no power supply for 15 minutes or more, the date and time will return to default.
  • A maximum of approx. 80 seconds of time gain/loss can occur in the displayed time over a month. It is recommended to correct the time periodically

Using the station

Answering a call

NOTE

  • If no buttons are pressed, the screen will time out approximately 45 seconds after the call is received.
  • Talk duration is max approx. 60 seconds.
  • Speaking simultaneously at the monitor station and door station may cause intermittent audio.
  • When the ambient noise is loud enough to interrupt the audio, the press-to-talk method is recommended. → Using press to-talk (for areas with high ambient noise) (P.12)
  • The ringtone also sounds from the call extension speaker.

About the expansion monitor station

  • If one monitor station answered a call, the image is also displayed on the other monitor station for approx. 45 seconds.
  • Pushing on one monitor station while the other monitor station is communicating with the door station results in three-way communication.
  • The master monitor station and the expansion monitor station cannot directly call or communicate with each other.

  • Unconfirmed image (indicated by )
  • Date and time of recording (“–/–/—- –:–” is shown when the date and time are not set.)
  • Currently selected image number/total number of the recorded images
  • When there are some unconfirmed images, the station will inform you with the following indicators:
  • Setting menu icon : changes to . (When you display any new image , will return to .)
  • Notification LED: Flashes slowly. (When you display even 1 new image, the LED will turn off.)

Monitoring the door station

NOTE

  • Available functions during monitoring

  • To end monitoring, tap again.
  • Monitoring ends automatically after approx. 60 seconds.
  • Ambient noise may be louder during monitoring than while communicating.

About the expansion monitor station

  • If both monitor stations are monitoring the door station and the is pressed on one monitor station, the other monitor station will continue to hear the communication.
  • Tapping one monitor station while the other monitor station is communicating with the door station will display video and allow communication to be monitored.

Setting menu

NOTE

  • Any unfinished setting changes will be lost in the following cases.
  • The station enters standby mode after approx. 60 seconds of no operation.
  • An incoming call is received.

Troubleshooting

  • If issues occur with the station, refer to the following troubleshooting procedures. For further help and assistance, contact your installer or service technician.

LED

  • Problem: The notification LED is on during standby.
  • Cause: The ringtone volume is set to “0”.
  • Solution: Adjust the ringtone volume. → Menu list (P.16)
  • Problem: The notification LED flashes slowly during standby.
  • Cause: There are unconfirmed images.
  • Solution: The LED will turn off when you display at least 1 image. → Viewing a recorded image (JV-1MD only) (P.14)
  • Problem: The notification LED flashes fast.
  • Cause: JV-1MD: A short circuit is detected in the door station wiring or the expansion monitor station wiring.
  • JV-1FD: A short circuit is detected in the door station wiring.
  • Solution: Contact your installer or service technician.

Screen

  • Problem: The screen is black.
  • Cause: The monitor is off in standby mode.

Solution:

  • To communicate with the door station, tap .
  • To monitor the outside of the door, tap . → Monitoring the door station (P.15)
  • To display the setting menu, tap any of the function buttons. → Setting menu (P.16)
  • Problem: The screen is black, and the station does not respond to touch.
  • Cause: The power may be off.
  • Solution: Contact your installer or service technician.
  • Problem: The screen is white or displaying white vertical lines or rings.
  • Cause: The lens of the door station is in direct sunlight or another bright light source. (This is not a malfunction.)
  • Solution: Install the door station in a location where it is not pointed at direct sunlight.

Sound/voice

  • Problem: The ringtone does not sound.
  • Cause: The ringtone volume is set to “0”.
  • Solution: Adjust the ringtone volume. → Menu list (P.16)
  • Problem: It is difficult to hear the ringtone.
  • Cause: Ambient noise may make it difficult to hear.
  • Solution: Adjust the ringtone volume. → Menu list (P.16)
  • Problem: It is difficult to hear the speaker.
  • Cause: Ambient noise may make it difficult to hear.
  • Solution: Adjust the receiving volume. → Adjusting receiving volume (P.12)
  • Problem: Communication is interrupted, or it becomes a one-way conversation.
  • Cause: Because of auto-voice actuation, audio may be interrupted when there is loud ambient noise.
  • Solution: Enable the press-to-talk method. → Using press-to-talk (for areas with high ambient noise) (P.12)
  • Problem: The visitor cannot hear the resident’s voice at all (but the resident can hear the visitor’s voice).
  • Cause: The press-to-talk is selected.
  • Solution: When using press-to-talk, the visitor can only hear incoming audio if the user taps. → Using press-to-talk (for areas with high ambient noise) (P.12)
  • Problem: Communication cannot be heard even if the talk button is tapped.
  • Cause: The receiving volume is low.
  • Solution: Adjust the receiving volume. → Adjusting receiving volume (P.12)

Appendix

Replacing the nameplate

  1. Peel off the protective seal of a new nameplate (both sides).
  2. Fill in the resident’s name.
    • Use a permanent marker.
    • Keep the text within the dashed line.
  3. Remove the front panel.
    • JV-DV: Loosen the special screw with the included special screwdriver [A], and remove the front panel [B]
    • JV-DVF: Loosen the special screws (×4) with the included hexagonal wrench [C], and remove the front panel [D].
  4. Pull out the nameplate [E].
    • JV-DV:

  5. Insert the filled-in nameplate.
  6. Install the front panel in the opposite order of removal.

Cleaning

Cleaning the station

  • Gently wipe using a soft, dry cloth. For tough stains, use a lightly damp cloth and neutral detergent diluted in water. The screen surface can easily be scratched. Gently wipe with an eyeglass cleaner cloth or similar material.
  • To disinfect the station, gently wipe the surface of the station with a soft cloth dampened with diluted disinfectant solution. Then wipe with a wet soft cloth wrung out tightly to remove the disinfectant.

CAUTION

  1. Remove the front panel
    • Loosen the special screw with the included special screwdriver [A], and remove the front panel [B].
  2. Pull out the nameplate [C].

    • ATTENTION
    • Do not put a sticker over the nameplate cover. Otherwise, the LED illumination for the nighttime is decreased.
    • Do not remove the packing. If the packing is not installed properly, water may enter the nameplate cover.
  4. Gently wipe the inside of the nameplate cover using a soft, dry cloth.
    • For tough stains, use a lightly damp cloth and neutral detergent diluted in water.
  5. Insert the nameplate.
  6. Install the front panel in the opposite order of removal.

Warranty
