Keep all warning labels, including the serial number identification label located on the housing. After transportation or storage at low temperatures allow the appliance to stay at room temperature for at least 2 hours before using. Wipe the base with a damp cloth and let dry. Wash the unit to eliminate any odors during first use.

OPERATION

Choosing the milk
Use whole or semi-skim milk, which does not need to be boiled (long-life UHT sterilized milk, which was exposed to intense heating, or powdered milk). Fresh or pasteurized milk needs to be boiled, cooled down, and strained through a fine sieve to remove any skin prior to use. Yogurt made from whole milk is thicker and more flavorful. You can make your yogurt thicker by combining 1 L of milk with 2-3 tablespoons of powdered milk. The milk must be at room temperature or lukewarm (36-40°С). Do not use milk straight out of refrigerator.

Choosing the starter

What to use as a starter:

  • Plain store bought yogurt (made from whole milk) with the furthest expiration date. Use 3-5 tablespoons of yogurt per 1 L of milk.
  • Powdered yogurt starter (can be purchased in a supermarket or health food store). Follow the directions on your yogurt starter package.
  • Your own homemade yogurt. Once you make the first batch save some yogurt to use as a starter for the next batch.
  • After 5 batches use a new starter because the culture becomes weaker with time, resulting in less thick yogurt.

Making the yogurt

  1. In a separate container combine milk with the starter of your choice (yogurt or powdered starter). Mix thoroughly but do not beat or whip. To create a homogeneous mixture first beat yogurt with a fork until smooth and then, continuing to beat, add milk. When using powdered yogurt starter simply combine with milk and mix thoroughly.
  2. Pour mixture into the jars. Place the jars with the lids into the yogurt maker. Cover the yogurt maker with its cover.
  3. Plug in the appliance. Use Timer button to adjust the time between 1 and 12 hours in 1 hour intervals. Selected time will be displayed.
  4. Press On/Off button to start cooking. Red heating indicator light will illuminate. After yogurt maker reaches the required operating temperature (within 10-15 minutes) heating indicator goes out and green cooking-inprogress indication light illuminates. Display shows the time counting down. After cooking cycle is completed yogurt maker beeps three times and shuts itself off. Certain high acid fruits can kill live cultures essential in making yogurt. Add fruits after the processing and refrigeration.

To set the expiration date
Take upper cover off the yogurt maker. Be careful not to drip any accumulated water into the finished yogurt. Use date dials on the lids of each jar to set the date. Simply rotate the upper part of the lid to adjust the dial to expiration date. Yogurt can be refrigerated for up to 8 days. Setting the expiration date add 8 days to the date when the batch has been made. Close the jars with lids and put in refrigerator for at least 6 hours. Leave for 24 hours to create a thicker consistency. Do not put yogurt maker into the refrigerator!
