Before You Begin

After uncrating and removing all packing material, inspect the equipment for concealed shipping damage. If damage is found, notify the shipper immediately.

Warning
The top is NOT fastened to the bin. Be aware of this to avoid personal injury.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the hardware kit from the bin.

    • Legs
    • Pre-assembled snout door assembly
    • Primer
    • Silicone
    • Gasket (poly liners only)
  2. Remove bin top from bin (Do not remove the H frame from panel).

  3. Lay bin on back, being careful to protect finish, and remove bolts holding skid to the bin.

  4. Screw legs into tapped holes in bin bottom and tighten to seat legs against the bottom. Do not over-tighten or remove the channels which are required as structural support.

  5. Set bin upright.

  6. Reinstall top onto bin.

  7. Remove the protective paper from the stainless steel exterior.

  8. Move bin to a permanent location.

  9. Adjust “foot” at the bottom of each leg to level bin in both directions.

  10. When provided install gasket on bin and mount ice machine(s) on bin by ice machine instructions.

  11. Connect drain line to 1” FPT female fitting located in bottom of bin.
NOTE: DO NOT twist or turn factory installed drain. If the seal is broken during installation use NSF-approved silicone to re-seal before using bin (allow the silicone to dry for full 24 hours before using).

  12. Using the primer provided, clean the area around the opening and the flat surface of the snout.

  13. Place the top channel of the snout in the opening of the bin and push up to secure in place.

  14. Drop the bottom channel of the snout into the opening.

  15. Using the silicone provided, apply a generous amount around the inside AND outside perimeter of the snout.

  16. Smooth the silicone edge to create a thorough seal. An insufficient silicone seal will result in leaking.

  17. Allow silicone to dry for 24 hours before using the bin.

  18.  Make the final connections to the ice machine.

Drain Requirements

  • Bin drain termination must have an air gap.
  • Drain lines must have a 1.5-inch drop per 5 feet of run(2.5 cm per meter), and must not create traps.
  • The floor drain must be large enough to accommodate drainage from all drains.
  • Run separate bin and ice machine drain lines and insulate to prevent condensation.

Baffle Operation

The baffle controls the flow of ice into lower door assembly area for removal with either a scoop or shovel. The baffle can also be adjusted and locked at one of several levels to accommodate flow characteristics of different types of ice.
The baffle can be raised/lowered and locked to control flow or when more access is needed

FOR MORE ICE
If more ice is needed in the lower door area:

  1. Release latches at each side of the baffle to gently lift and jiggle the baffle to encourage ice to flow into access area of the bin. (Loose ice will cascade into lower door area.)
  2. When adequate ice has flowed, lower the baffle back down.

FOR MORE ACCESS
When more access is needed or to encourage flow:

  1. Lock baffle at a higher level by releasing the latches on each side and holding the baffle at correct level.
  2. To lower release latches on each side of baffle, lower to position and release latches to lock in place.

Accessories

K00499 48” Paddle
K00503 60” Paddle
K00500 37” Shovel

Using the Ice Paddle Accessory
Ice paddle is an optional accessory. If your bin has been ordered with ice paddle, mount the paddle for easy access on either side of bin. If there is adequate ice in bin but lower door area is not filled with ice, it may be that ice has congealed and will not flow. This can often be remedied by quickly raising/lowering the baffle several times (see preceding, Baffle Operation). If the problem continues, the ice paddle can be used to break up the congealed ice mass.

Warning
Use the ice paddle only as described above. To avoid possible injury, keep head and face clear of lower door area and tool at all times. Do not use probe tool for other purposes.

Cleaning Exterior of Bin
Exterior stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution or a stainless steel cleaner and polish.

Descaling and Sanitizing Bin Interior
Interior of the bin must be descaled and sanitized before use and must be descaled on a routine basis during use. Ice storage bins must be descaled and sanitized every six months with Manitowoc Ice Machine Descaler and Sanitizer.

Caution
Use only Manitowoc-approved Ice Machine Descaler/ Descaler and Sanitizer for this application (Manitowoc Descaler/Descaler part number 9405463 and Manitowoc Sanitizer part number 9405653). It is a violation of Federal law to use these solutions in a manner inconsistent with their labelling. Read and understand all labels printed on bottles before use.

Warning
Wear rubber gloves and safety goggles (and/or face shield) when handling Ice Machine Descaler or Sanitizer.

  1. Remove upper inspection windows by sliding windows to one side. Grasp the end of the front window and pull toward you as the window is slid to the opposite side.
  2. Repeat for the rear window.

    ---|---|---
    Descaler| 1 gal. (4 L)| 16 oz. (500 ml)

descaler/descaler

  1. Mix a solution of descaler/descaler and warm water.
  2. Depending upon the amount of mineral buildup, a larger quantity of solution may be required. Use the ratio in the table below to mix enough solution to thoroughly describe all parts.
    Solution Type| Water| Mixed With
    ---|---|---
    Sanitizer| 3 gal. (11 L)| 2 oz. (60 ml) sanitizer
  3. Wash bin walls, hopper, access door and rinse all areas thoroughly with clean water. Important Do not rinse after sanitizing
  4. Mix a solution of sanitiser and warm water.
  5. Sanitize bin walls, hopper and access door plate. Use a spray bottle to liberally apply the solution. Do not rinse the sanitized areas.
