Note: Confirm that all the hardware in the parts list is in the kit.
Do not begin this installation if any part is missing. Read the instructions thoroughly before beginning this installation.
Warning: DO NOT drive the vehicle until all work has been completed and checked.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The following Steps 1-7 are for the Chevy / GMC C-1500 Shock Extension installation.
Additional holes on the bracket have been added to keep the bracket from pivoting during normal vehicle operation. On this particular bracket for the C-1500, the two side holes are to be used.
1. Using a properly rated floor jack, lift the rear of the vehicle off the ground. Lift the vehicle so that the rear tires are approximately 6-8 inches off the ground surface.
2. Working from the driver’s side of the rear axle, remove the bottom of the rear shock absorber. Remove the hardware completely. Keep the factory hardware for use during re-assembly.
3. Place the shock extension bracket over the driver’s side shock mount, with the legs facing towards the back of the vehicle. Insert the M12 bolts with the washer into the existing holes. Finger-tight the hardware only. Do not tighten the bolts.
4. Using a 4mm pilot drill, drill through the center of the bracket hole through the side shock mount. Unbolt the bracket and remove it. Drill out the two side holes using a 8mm drill bit for clearance.
5. Re-mount the bracket into the vehicle using the supplied M12 bolts and M12
nuts. Tighten and torque to 100 ft-lbs. Install the side hardware (M8 bolts
and M8 nuts).
Note: The M12 nuts are outside the bracket.
6. Re-mount the bottom of the shock into the new shock extension. Re-mount the factory bolts and nuts. Tighten and torque hardware to 70 ft-lbs.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 on the opposite side of the vehicle.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The following Steps A-F are for the installation of Chevy C-10 Shock Extension installation.
A slotted hole has been added to the bracket to prevent the bracket from pivoting during normal vehicle operation. For this particular C-10 bracket, you need to use the single slotted hole that matches up with an existing hole on the side shock mount.
A. Using a floor jack with a proper weight capacity, lift the rear of the vehicle until the rear tires are approximately 6-8 inches off the ground.
B. Starting from the driver’s side of the rear. remove the bottom bolt of the rear shock absorber and take off the hardware completely. Keep the factory hardware aside during re-assembly.
C. Place the shock extension bracket over the driver’s side shock mount,
ensuring that the legs are facing towards the back of the vehicle. Insert the
M12 bolts with the washer into the existing holes. Finger-tight the hardware
only.
Don’t tighten the bolts at this stage.
Note: The M12 nuts are outside the bracket.
D. Push the legs of the bracket upwards, and manually hold it in this position
while mounting the M8 bolts into the holes. Tighten the mounting hardware
securely.
Next, tighten the M12 bolts and M12 nuts. Torque them to 100 ft-lbs to ensure
proper installation.
E. Re-mount the bottom of the shock absorber onto the new shock extension. Use the factory bolts and nuts and tighten them to 70 ft-lbs torque using a torque wrench.
F. Repeat steps B-E on the opposite side of the vehicle.
In the end, check all hardware is mounted at correct torque settings. Recheck all work. Re-tighten Shock Extension mounting bolts. Test drive, then have a trained technician perform an alignment.
