Intended use

• This GLORIA appliance is intended for domestic use outdoors to trim lawn edges in the outside yard and garden.

The grass shear is not suitable for applications other than those areas of use specified. Do not use the grass shear to cut materials other than grass. Safety instructions for operating the grass shears
DANGER
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRASS SHEARS

• Do not use the grass shear in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This decreases the risk of being struck by lightning.

• Keep all power cords and cables away from the cutting area. Power cords or cables could be accidentally cut by the blade.

• Hold the grass shear by the insulated handle surfaces only, as the blade may come in contact with hidden power lines. Contact of the blades with a live cable can energize metal parts of the grass shear and result in an electric shock.

• Keep all parts of the body away from the blade. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Blades continue to move after the switch is turned off. A moment of inattention while operating the grass shear may result in serious personal injury.

• When removing trapped clippings or carrying out maintenance on the grass shear, make sure the on/off switch (D) is turned off, the mains cable is unplugged and the power lock is engaged or the battery is removed. Unexpected startup of the grass shear when removing trapped clippings or carrying out maintenance can result in serious injury.

• Carry the grass shear by the handle with the blade stopped and taking care not to operate any power switch. Proper carrying of the grass shear will decrease the risk of inadvertent starting and resultant personal injury from the blades.

• Never put your hands or feet near to the blades! Ensure that sufficient distance is kept between hands, feet and the blade bars. The blade bar continues to rotate after motor is switched off.
• Never lift or carry the appliance with running motor! Switch the motor off when moving the appliance to and from a work area, or tilting the appliance. Switch the motor off and slide the blade guard (I) on when moving the appliance to and from a work area, or tilting the appliance.

Assembling the grass shear

• Do not reach into the knife blades!
• Only assemble with the blade guard attached (I)!
• Slide the blade guard (I) onto the blade bar (H)!

Assembling the connecting tube

• After removing from the packaging, assemble both parts of the tubes (E/F) together, as illustrated. When assembling, make sure that the attachment lug fits into the groove as illustrated to ensure that both tubes (G) are in the correct position.
• Now tighten the screw connection (E) by hand by turning it clockwise. Make sure that the cable is not trapped!

Height adjustment
Your is delivered with the wheels fully assembled. The factory-set cutting height is 3 cm. However, proceed as follows if you wish to adjust the cutting height to 4 cm or 5 cm:

Use the allen key supplied (3 mm) to remove both wheels from the wheel mountings and then mount them in one of the 2 other wheel mountings. Pay attention to the order of the washers (large metal washer touches the yellow housing, small metal washer touches the screw head, white PTFE washer in between) and make sure that both wheels are mounted at the same height. The respective cutting heights are marked on the mountings.

CAUTION

• RISK OF INJURY DUE TO INCORRECT ASSEMBLY!
• Make sure that all parts and screws are securely tightened so that the appliance is in a safe working condition. Do not start the appliance until it has been fully assembled!

The operating voltage is 230 V AC, 50 Hz (for non-EU countries 220 V, 240 V as applicable). Contact your nearest authorised specialist dealer for details.

DANGER
Inadequate extension cables can be dangerous. Extension cable, plug and socket must be of watertight construction and intended for outdoor use. If you want to use an extension cable when operating your grass shear, only the following cable dimensions should be used:

• 1,5 mm2 – max. length 20 m
• 2,5 mm2 – max. length 50 m

NOTE!
If an extension cable is used it must be earthed and connected through the plug to the earth cable of your supply network in accordance with prescribed safety regulations. The mains plug and coupling of the extension cable must be water tight and may not be placed in water. The coupling may not be on the floor.

Commisioning
ATTENTION
Improper use of the appliance poses a risk of damage to property! You should therefore observe the following safety instructions:

• When working on the lawn border, make sure that you do not damage the edge of the curb (e.g. when tilting or tipping the appliance) or that the edge of the curb damages or bends the blade bar.
• The knife blades are precisely adjusted for grass cutting. Cutting branches and bushes will result in a loss of pretension and thus reduce the quality of the grass cut.
• Check the lawn surface to be trimmed beforehand to avoid damage to appliance and objects or injuries to living beings. Power lines, stones, pieces of wood, wires or the like, as well as other foreign objects must be removed. Objects that the grass shear pick up can be cut.

NOTE!

• Slide the loop of the extension cable into the designated cable strain relief (C) in the handle (A) and fix it in the designated clip.
• Use an extension cable to connect the device to a power outlet (230 V AC).
• Remove the blade guard (I).
• Clean the grass shear before or after each use. Oil the blades with machine oil or spray lubricating oil before or after use.
  • Before using the grass shear, first mow the lawn using the lawnmower / lawn robot.
  • Adjust the cutting height (3/4/5 cm) as described in section 6.2.
  • Place the on the lawn and switch the appliance on. To switch ON, firstly press and hold the lock-off button (B). Then press the ON/OFF safety switch (D) and keep it pressed.
• Now move the appliance once slowly forwards and back on the lawn. Do not apply pressure to the appliance. Leaving the grass shear at one position for too long can damage the turf.

NOTE!
If too much cut grass settles on the blade bar, switch off the appliance, lift it slightly and shake off the grass.
ATTENTION
Improper use of the appliance poses a risk of damage to property! You should therefore observe the following safety instructions:

• When cutting around curbs, fences, or trees, make sure the blade bar does not come into contact with them.
• Oil the blades at least once an hour (machine oil or spray lubricating oil).

Angle adjustment
Your is equipped with an angle adjustment mechanism (G) which allows you to trim your lawn even in hard-to-reach areas. Proceed as follows to adjust the angle of the tube:

Press both angle adjustment buttons (G) simultaneously to adjust the tube. The angle (G) can be adjusted in 9 stages. You can therefore work under obstacles when it is set flat.

Replacing the blades
WARNING
RISK OF CUTTING INJURY FROM SHARP/POINTED METAL BLADES!
Only assemble with the blade guard attached (I)!

NOTE!
Tools required:
Phillips screwdriver

• Loosen and remove the 7 marked base cover screws on the underside of the appliance.

• Lift the base cover from the appliance and remove it.

• To remove the blade set, loosen and remove the remaining screw indicated.

• Lift the blade set from the appliance and remove it.

• If necessary, use a brush to clear away any dirt from the housing and the two seals.

• Before fitting the new blade set, make sure that the marks on the two large cog wheels line up with the marks on the housing. The two cams must be positioned as shown.

• Before inserting the new blade set, check the correct position of the upper blades. The upper blades need to be positioned centrally and pointing straight forward as shown. You may need to align the cams of the upper blades as shown in the figure.
  (= correct /= incorrect).

• Now attach the new blade set. The central large stud and the 3 indicated shafts of the cog wheels, which need to sit in the openings of the blade set, can be used as a positioning aid.

• Fix the blade set by screwing it at the position indicated.

• Replace the base cover on the appliance as shown.

• Then use the 7 screws indicated to screw the base cover in place.
  Lubricate the new blade with machine oil or lubricating oil spray before using.

• The blade set has now been replaced.

Cleaning
ATTENTION
Improper use of the appliance poses a risk of damage to property! You should therefore observe the following safety instruction:

• Switch off the appliance and remove the mains plug.
• Do not immerse the appliance in water or spray or clean it with water. The appliance must be protected against moisture.
• Clean the outside of the appliance with a damp cloth or soft brush. Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning agents.
• Dismantle the grass shear for a thorough clean if it is seriously dirty. Use a brush to clean the cutting unit, the housing and the two seals, then oil the blades (J).
• Only use original GLORIA spare parts for repairs.

Decommissioning & Storage

Decommissioning

• Take the appliance out of operation by releasing the On/Off switch (D) in the handle.
• Switch off the appliance and remove the mains plug.

• Pull the mains plug out of the socket, then disconnect the connection coupling.
