MATERIALS
- Velvet 200g x 5 balls
NEEDLES AND EXTRAS
- A pair 9mm Knitting Needles, or size that gives correct tension.
- A yarn needle.
TENSION
- 8 sts and 12 rows to 10 cm over garter st, using 9mm needles.
SCARF
- Using 9mm needles, cast on 29 sts.
- Beg rib – 1st row (RS) – K2, P1, K1, rep from to last st, K1.
- 2nd row – K1, P1, K1, rep from to end.
- Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 7 cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row and dec one st in centre of last row = 28 sts.
- Beg patt – 1st row (RS) – K2, P1, K1, P2, knit into front, back and front of next st (forming 3 sts), P2, K1, P2, rep from to last 4 sts, K1, P1, K2.
- 2nd row – (K1, P1) twice, K2, * P1, K2, (K1, yarn over needle) twice, K3, rep from to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
- 3rd row – K2, P1, K1, P2, (P1, drop the yarn over needle) twice, P3, K1, P2, rep from to last 4 sts, K1, P1, K2.
- 4th row – (K1, P1) twice, K2, P1, K2, K3tog, K2, rep from to last 4 sts, (P1, K1) twice.
- 5th row – K2, P1, K1, P2, K1, P2, knit into front, back and front of next st (forming 3 sts), P2, rep from to last 4 sts, K1, P1, K2.

- Cont in patt until work measures approx 218 cm from beg, ending with a 4th or 8th patt row and inc one st in centre of last row = 29 sts.
- Beg rib – Work 7 cm in rib (as before), ending with a 2nd row.
- Cast off loosely.
FINISHING
- DO NOT PRESS. Darn in all ends towards centre of scarf rather than along side edges for a neater finish.
