Product Usage Instructions

Preparing the Machine

No Parts Required

  1. Procedure:
  2. Note: Use Figure 2 as a reference for removing the old rotor blades.
  3. Prepare the machine:
    • For gas-powered machines:
    • Shut off the engine.
    • Wait for all moving parts to stop.
    • Disconnect the wire from the spark plug.
    • For battery-powered machines:
    • Release the bail.
    • Wait for all moving parts to stop.
    • Remove the electric-start button and battery pack from the machine.
  4. Remove 1 existing rotor blade:
  5. Remove the 4 locknuts and 4 countersunk bolts securing each side of the rotor blade to the rotor assembly.
  6. Remove the 2 bolts (1/4 x 7/8 inch) and 2 locknuts securing the rotor blade to the half rotors.
  7. Loosen (but do not remove) the center bolt (1/4 x 1-1/4 inches) and the final locknut that secures the rotor blade to the half rotors.
  8. Remove the rotor blade.

Installing the New Rotor Blades

Parts needed for this procedure

  1. Procedure:

  2. Note: Use Figure 2 as a reference for installing the new rotor blades.

  3. Insert 2 spacers into each new rotor blade.

  4. Secure the rotor blade to the half rotors using 2 locknuts and 2 bolts (1/4 x 7/8 inch). Install the rotor blade with the thick rubber layer on the inside of the curve.

  5. Secure the sides of the rotor blade to the rotor assembly using 4 countersunk bolts and 4 locknuts.

  6. Repeat steps for the remaining new rotor blade.

  7. Tighten the center bolt (1/4 x 1-1/4 inches) to secure the half rotors and rotor blades together.

  8. Connect wire to spark plug for gas-powered machines or install battery pack and electric-start button for battery-powered machines.

Installation Instructions

Before each season, inspect the rotor blades for wear. Refer to the machine Operator’s Manual for the proper inspection procedure.
Note: To make installing the kit easier, replace one rotor blade at a time.

Preparing the Machine

No Parts Required

Procedure
Note: Use Figure 2 as a reference for removing the old rotor blades, as the existing parts are similar to the new parts.

  1. Prepare the machine: for gas-powered machines, shut off the engine, wait for all moving parts to stop, and disconnect the wire from the spark plug.
    For battery-powered machines, release the bail, wait for all moving parts to stop, and remove the electric-start button and battery pack from the machine.

  2. Remove 1 existing rotor blade:

    • Remove the 4 locknuts and 4 countersunk bolts securing each side of the rotor blade to the rotor assembly.
    • Remove the 2 bolts (1/4 x 7/8 inch) and 2 locknuts securing the rotor blade to the half rotors.
    • Loosen (but do not remove) the center bolt (1/4 x 1-1/4 inches) and the final locknut that secures the rotor blade to the half rotors.
    • Remove the rotor blade.

Installing the New Rotor Blades

Parts needed for this procedure:

4 Spacer – 66-8010
2 Rotor blade – 161-2172
13 Locknut – 3296-56
8 Countersunk bolt – 125-1122
4 Bolt (1/4 x 7/8 inch) – 321-5
1 Bolt (1/4 x 1-1/4 inches) – 321-8

Procedure
Note: Use Figure 2 as a reference for installing the new rotor blades.

  1. Insert 2 spacers into each new rotor blade.

  2. Take 1 blade and secure it to the empty space in the half rotors using 2 locknuts and 2 bolts (1/4 x 7/8 inch).

  3. Secure the sides of the rotor blade to the rotor assembly using 4 countersunk bolts and 4 locknuts.

  4. Remove the other existing rotor blade using step 2 in 1 Preparing the Machine (page 2).

  5. Repeat steps 2 through 3 for the remaining new rotor blade.

  6. Tighten the center bolt (1/4 x 1-1/4 inches) to secure the half rotors and rotor blades together.

  7. For gas-powered machines, connect the wire to the spark plug. For battery-powered machines, install the battery pack and the electric-start button.TORO-161-3934-Long-Life-Rotor-Blade-Kit-02
