Install the Doorbell
Step 1. Finding a Mounting Spot
Take the video doorbell to your front door and check the live view on the App
at the same time. Find a location where you can get the desired field of view.
Consider the below factors:
- Check if you can reuse the existing holes and anchors on the wall or door frame.
- If you want to place the doorbell close to a side wall, make sure the wall doesn’t show up in the field of view. Otherwise IR light will be reflected and night vision will become blurry.
- If you are drilling the mounting holes for the first time, the recommended mounting height is 55″ / 1.4 meters from the ground.
- Use the 15° mounting wedge as a supplementary mounting bracket if you wish to see more on a specific side.
Step2. Find a suitable height to place the Screw Hole Positioning Card.
Step3. Determining the power option
Option 1 – Battery Powered
-
If you don’t have existing doorbell wiring at the front door, use the built-in battery. You are free to determine the doorbell position and the mounting is easy and quick.
-
If the doorbell battery is low, you need to charge it before installing it.
-
Mount the Bracket, Please NOTE That The Mounting Bracket has a positive indicator showing the installation direction pointing upward from the ground.
-
Place the Screw Hole Positioning Card
-
Drill and install anchors.( Anchors are not required if the wall is made of wood)
-
Mounting Bracket (If the installation surface is smooth and dust-free, you can use 3M tape along the edges behind the mounting bracket, eliminating the need to drill holes)
-
Screw the mounting bracket into position.
-
Install the 15° mounting wedge if you wish to see more on a specific side.
4. Align the slot of the doorbell with the bracket buckle, put it in, and press it down until it clicks into place.
Congratulations, you have completed the doorbell installation !
Option 2 – Doorbell Wire Powered
-
If you have existing and working doorbell wiring at the front door, the doorbell will be powered by the wires constantly. So you don’t need to detach and charge it after installation.
-
Ring the existing doorbell to check if it is working. If the doorbell doesn’t ring, your doorbell wires may be defective. Power the doorbell on its own battery or consult an electrician to fix the wires first.
-
Shut off the doorbell power supply. If you’re not sure, shut off the main power supply in your house. Turn the lights in your home on / off to make sure the electricity in your house is properly shut off.
NOTE Always be careful when handling electricity wiring. If you’re not comfortable to do it yourself, do consult a qualified electrician. -
Find the doorbell chime in your house, then remove the cover and find the screw terminals with TRANS and FRONT markings. Use the provided Jumper for Existing Chime to connect the two terminals. This is to bypass the doorbell chime and will not affect the normal operation of the circuit.
NOTE:
· The video doorbell requires user to bypass the existing chime first to get sufficient power. Without this step, the video doorbell will still be able to power on but will operate unstably.
· In most cases, the existing doorbell circuit looks like below chart. Find the existing doorbell chime in your house, remove the cover and take a photo of the wire connection in case you need to reconnect it.
· Use the provided jumper to connect FRONT and TRANS terminals to bypass the chime on the circuit. Do not remove the original wire connecting to the chime. If your doorbell chime has different markings or you have multiple chimes, do consult a qualified electrician.
· When the jumper is in place, the existing chime will not sound anymore. -
Remove the existing doorbell button at the front door. Pull the two wires out carefully when removing the old doorbell. Straighten the wire ends if necessary.
-
Screw the mounting bracket into position
-
Install the 15° mounting wedge if you wish to see more on a specific side.
-
Connect the wires to the two terminals at the back of the doorbell, then tighten the terminal screws. Wire can connect to any terminal as the electric current is alternating current.
Note: To prevent short-circuit, make sure the wires are not touching each other after connecting them to the terminals. Use electrical wiring tape to secure the connection if the wall doesn’t have space for wire nuts. -
Align the slot of the doorbell with the bracket buckle, put it in, and press it down until it clicks into place.
-
Switch the doorbell or master circuit breaker to ON.
Congratulations, you have completed the installation !
Detach the Doorbell
- Use the doorbell detaching pin provided if you wish to detach the doorbell from the Mounting Bracket.
- Press and hold the Release hole on the bottom of the doorbell and then lift its bottom to take it off.
Note: If you have enabled Anti-Theft Siren, please disable it via the “Napcat Life “app first, otherwise the alarm will be triggered.
