Product Usage Instructions

Installation and Placement:
Your Altech stove should be installed according to local regulations and
building codes, including all national and European requirements. Consult your
Altech dealer for guidance.
Chimney:
The chimney must have a minimum inner size of 150mm and comply with local
regulations. The chimney draft should be between 10 Pa and 15 Pa. In case of a
chimney fire, close the stove’s air control, extinguish the fire with sand or
soda, and contact the fire department.
Connecting to the Chimney:
The connection between the stove and the chimney must be sealed properly
without obstructing smoke or chimney cleaning.
Flooring:
Place the stove on a sturdy and stable non-combustible surface. If the
floor material is combustible, use a steel floor plate that meets local
requirements.
Clearances:
- Maintain minimum distances from walls as indicated.
- Keep a distance of 10 cm from the back of the stove to the wall to allow for convection heat and air supply.
- Ensure a safety distance of 2 meters for flammable materials near the window’s heat radiation and 40 cm for materials outside the window’s radiation range.
Burning Instructions:
The stove is designed for burning wood only. Follow proper burning
procedures to avoid voiding the warranty.
First Use
To extend the lifespan of the stove, it’s strictly necessary to light the stove at a low level for the first 10 to 12 times; this is called ‘instoking’. This allows the used cement to partially harden and create a solid connection between the firebox and the soapstone elements, thus reducing the chances of cracks forming drastically.
Note: If you do not follow the below instook procedure, the warranty may be void. The stove is exclusively suitable for burning wood. For further explanation, see the ‘fuels’ section.
Manual Stoking
After the instook procedure is fully completed, you can use the Massiv
series completely. Altech advises using the so-called Top-Down stoking
instructions for stoves in the Massiv series. This method of lighting the
stove and the flue quickly reaches the correct temperature, resulting in
better and cleaner combustion. The stove also burns much longer on the first
filling.
Fuels
Altech soapstone stoves are exclusively suitable for burning clean and
sufficiently dry wood, not too large (max. 1.5 kg per piece). We advise
against using wood such as hardwood, oak, beech, or birch that has been stored
outside under a roof for at least two years. The moisture content of the wood
should be between 12% and 18%.
Tips
- To reach a high temperature more quickly after lighting, fill the stove with more smaller pieces of wood. A longer burning time can be achieved by using larger pieces of wood and by adjusting the air supply.
- As the soapstone component of your Altech stove retains heat for an extended period after burning, the stove will continue to emit heat long after the fire has been extinguished.
- Do not run the stove for more than 2 hours with an intense fire.
- Once the fire has completely died out and there is no glowing layer visible in the stove, you can close the air supply in the stove.
- If the inside of the stove does not burn clean but remains black, this indicates poor combustion. You will need to burn more and smaller pieces of wood and/or further open the air supply.
Maintenance
Cleaning should only be done when the stove is cold. Use a soft cloth or
brush for the exterior. Do not use water or aggressive cleaning agents.
Speckles can be removed best with benzene, but be careful not to get benzene
on any painted surfaces.
Malfunctions & Problems
If the glass becomes black, it may be due to the wood being too moist, the
air supply set too tight, the door gasket not in order, or the air slider
incorrectly mounted. If smoke enters the room, it could be due to insufficient
chimney draft caused by environmental conditions such as fog or a dirty
chimney.
Additional Information
The Massiv can be expanded with an extra layer of soapstone.

Kachels.What should
I do if the interior of my stove remains black after use?

process. You should burn more and smaller pieces of wood and/or adjust the air
supply. Can I use any type of wood in my Altech stove?
Altech advises using chopped pieces of hardwood such as oak, beech, or birch
that have been stored under a roof for a minimum of two years. The wood should
have a moisture content between 12% and 18%.
Can I use other fuels besides wood in the Massiv stove?
No, the stove is only suitable for burning wood. The use of other fuels may
