Introduction

This user manual contains important information about the handling of the product. To ensure safety when using the product, read the user manual carefully and follow the safety instructions.

1.1 Compliance

This product features the CE mark, in compliance with the Medical Device Regulation 2017/745 Class I. The launch date of this product is stated in the CE declaration of conformity.

1.2 Warranty Information
We provide a manufacturer’s warranty for the product in accordance with our General Terms and Conditions of Business in the respective countries.
Warranty claims can only be made through the provider from whom the product was obtained.
1.3 Limitation of Liability
Invacare accepts no liability for damage arising from:

  • Non-compliance with the user manual
  • Incorrect use
  • Natural wear and tear
  • Incorrect assembly or set-up by the purchaser or a third party
  • Technical modifications
  • Unauthorized modifications and/or use of unsuitable spare parts

Safety

WARNING!
Risk of injury

  •  Always make sure that the lifting pole is positioned correctly and standing on a flat surface.
  •  Do not make any adjustments while the lifting pole is in use.
  •  After each adjustment of the lifting handle, check that the cord and the lifting handle are secured.
  • Take particular care when using a manual or electric head section to assist in lifting the patient.
  • Remove the lifting pole from the bed area before using a lifter to move the patient from or to the bed.
  •  Do not alter any part of the lifting pole. Only use original spare parts from Invacare.
  • After each assembly check that all fittings are properly tightened and all parts have the correct function.

Intended use
The lifting pole is intended to help users raise the upper part of their bodies while lying in a nursing bed and to be used with beds that don’t have height adjustment.

Assembly (Fig. 1)

Two 10 mm spanners

A Base (1 pc)
B Screw TE M6x50 (2 pcs)
C Cap nut M6 (2 pcs)
D Connecting tube (1 pc)
E Shaped tube (1 pc)
F Lifting handle with cord (1 pc)
G Cap Ø40 (4 pcs)
H Base cap (2 pcs)

  1. Fix the base A to the connecting tube D using one screw B and cap nut C.
  2. Fix the shaped tube E to the connecting tube D, using the second screw B and cap nut C. Select the most suitable hole according to the required height.
  3. Position the lifting handle F, so that the rubber reinforcement remains blocked between the two pins on the top-shaped tube.

Usage

  1. Place the lifting pole at the head end of the bed with the base fully under the bed.

  2. Adjust the length of the cord so that the patient can grip the lifting handle with both hands.
    An a. Loosen the cord and hold out while sliding the plastic cord lock upwards or downwards until the handle reaches the preferred height.
    b. Lock the handle by pressing back the cord in the lock and pulling the handle downwards.
    c. Check that the two cords above the cord lock are parallel and make sure the cord is properly locked by pulling the handle hard.

  3. You can raise the head section of the bed to make it easier for the user to reach the lifting handle.

Maintenance and cleaning

Before each use

  • Check that screws and nuts are firmly tightened and the cord doesn’t show any signs of damage.

Every second year
The product does not require any special maintenance, although we recommend making regular checks at least every two years:
Check that screws and nuts are firmly tightened.
Check that the tubes are in the correct position.
Check that the cord doesn’t show any signs of damages.
Check the connections and attachments.
Visually inspect the lifting pole for any damages.
If you detect any damages or issues, contact your distributor or Invacare representative.

Cleaning

  • Clean the product with a moist cloth or sponge and wipe dry immediately.
  • Use normal household detergents for cleaning. Do not use acids, alkalines, or solvents such as acetone or cellulose thinner.
  • Do not clean the product in automatic washing plants or with water-jet-based cleaning equipment.

Disposal

Be environmentally responsible and recycle this product through your recycling facility at its end of life.
Disassemble the product and its components, so the different materials can be separated and recycled individually. 1567504-C

The disposal and recycling of used products and packaging must comply with the laws and regulations for waste handling in each country. Contact your local waste management company for information.

Reconditioning

This product is suitable for reuse. To recondition the product for a new user, carry out the following actions:

  • Inspection
  • Cleaning and disinfection

For detailed information, see Maintenance.
Make sure that the user manual is handed over with the product.
If any damage or malfunction is detected, do not reuse the product.
