Product Information

The 790-843A1 is a universal flame sensor replacement suitable for furnaces, ovens, water heaters, boilers, and various other applications. It is a high- temperature and durable flame rod that can be bent, cut, or modified without losing performance when the protective sleeve is in place.

Installation Instructions

1. Ensure all instructions are read carefully before installation.
2. Identify the existing flame sensor to be replaced.
3. Disconnect the power supply to the system before beginning their placement.
4. Follow detailed instructions on pages 2, 3, and 4 for bending or cutting the flame rod if necessary.
5. Once modified, place the protective sleeve over the rod as instructed.
6. Connect the new flame sensor following the wiring diagram provided.
7. Reconnect the power supply and test the system to ensure proper functionality.

DESCRIPTION

The 790-843A1 is an aftermarket universal flame sensor replacement for many different applications. Flame sensors in furnaces, ovens, water heaters, boilers, and other applications can be replaced with the 790-843A1.
This high-temperature and durable flame rod can be bent, cut, or a combination of the two without losing any performance capability when the protective sleeve is placed over the rod during modification. For detailed instructions, please see pages 2, 3 and 4.

• Bracket Material: Zinc-plated steel or stainless steel

  NOTE: Internal wires to ignitor connections to withstand operational temperature of 482 °F (250 °C).

CAUTION

Shock Hazard

• Always turn off electric power before working on any appliance.
• Ensure proper connection to all wires.

Explosion Hazard

• Shut off the gas to the appliance before installation, and do not reconnect until installation is complete.

Fire Hazard

• Ensure that components do not come into direct contact with water (spray, dripping water or rain) Improper and dangerous operation can result from wiring errors.
• Ensure that wiring is routed securely, and away from any flame.

Cutting Instructions

1. Place protective sleeve over new 790-843A1 flame rod, flush with the ceramic
2. Cut new 790-843A1 flame rod to match the length of the old flame rod being replaced Use side cutters or a hacksaw when cutting flame rod

Bending Instructions

1. Match flange on the new 790-843A1 with a flange on the old flame sensor being replaced
2. a. Note on the new 790-843A1 where the rod bend should begin – denoted the ‘beginning of bend’ or ‘fulcrum’
3. Place the protective sleeve over the new flame rod, flush with the ceramic
4. Place new 790-843A1 on a sturdy, flat surface (table is recommended) with fulcrum positioned on the edge of the surface (see Fig.1 on page 4)
5. a. IMPORTANT: ensure the rotation of the flange matches the flange on the old flame sensor (see 1a)
6. While securing the new 790-843A1 in place with the fulcrum on the edge, press down on the tip of the flame rod until the proper bend angle is achieved
7. a. CAUTION: when pressing down, place a protective material between the hand and sensor tip to avoid injury to the hand
8. b. See Fig. 2 on page 4 to match the correct bend angle

Bend and Cut Instructions

Follow the instructions outlined above for bending, then cut the new 790-843A1 flame rod tip to match the length of the old flame sensor being replaced.
Use side cutters or hacksaw when cutting flame rod.

Flame Sensor Bending Guide – Match Correct Angle

To accurately detect bend angle:

1. Place the bend point of the old flame sensor inside the red circle
2. Mark line for the location of the flange on the old flame sensor
3. Take note of the flange orientation of the old flame sensor
4. Match flange of new Universal Flame Sensor found in steps 2 and 3
5. Bend the new Universal Flame Sensor at the bend point inside the red circle, following the bend line of the old flame sensor
