Note: With this installation, you’ll be removing several body panels from the bike. We strongly suggest that you keep the push pins and screws you remove with that body panel, so they don’t get mixed up with other fasteners from the other body panels. Also, take note of the size of the push pins and they’re location. You want to be sure they go back to the locations they came from.

INSTALLATION

  1. Remove Stock Windshield  (figure 1)
  2. Four screws hold on the stock windshield. Remove them and the windshield.
  3. You will not need to reuse these screws.MADSTAD-RKHO-NC21-NCXX-XX-Adjustable-Windshield-System-fig- \(3\)
  4. Remove Center Compartment Cover  (figure 2)
  5. Removing the Center Compartment Cover allows you to get to the side body panels.
  6. There are six screws to remove.
  7. The push pins can be released using a small Allen tool or similar.MADSTAD-RKHO-NC21-NCXX-XX-Adjustable-Windshield-System-fig- \(4\)
  8. Remove Side Panels  (Both Sides)  (figures 3-7)
  9. The outer panel has a single screw to remove per side. Once the stock screw is removed, push the panel forward which will unhook it from the bike.
  10. There is a screw at the top of the Turn Signal that must be removed. Then, there is a small panel that runs along the top side of the bike. Press down on the black interior molding and slightly push forward to remove this smaller piece of panel.
  11. Recommended Step: turn signals can remain on the bike, but should be supported while hanging. It you want to remove signals disconnect the two wired connectors of each turn signal – one Black and the other Blue.
  12. Lift the tab that holds the connector together and pull them apart. There are a couple Push Pins and one screw to remove.
  13. Remove the Push Pin in the very front. Once the Push Pins and screws are removed, pry the panel away from the bike.
  14. As the side panel comes off, the Turn Signal will come off with it – it is attached to this body panel.MADSTAD-RKHO-NC21-NCXX-XX-Adjustable-Windshield-System-fig- \(5\)MADSTAD-RKHO-NC21-NCXX-XX-Adjustable-Windshield-System-fig- \(6\)

Pivot Screws & Adjustment Knobs

  • Pivot Screws
The MadStad mount has a pivot screw on each set of brackets, located near the middle of brackets. A nylon lock nut keeps the screw in place yet allows the brackets to slide back and forth. It is adjusted at the factory to have a minimum of play yet still allow the brackets to move. The upper pivot hole gives maximum rearward tilt, and the lower pivot hole moves the tilt range 5 degrees more forward. If for some reason you wish to adjust the tightness of this pivot screw or move it to an alternate pivot position, use a 4mm Allen wrench along with a 10mm socket or open-end wrench to make the adjustment. If you tighten the lock nut completely you will not be able to slide the brackets.

  • Adjustment Knobs
To adjust the windshield for height and/or angle you must loosen the knobs about 1-2 turns to loosen the brackets allowing
them to slide back and forth. Gently push or pull on the shield to position it where you want it. Once you have the brackets adjusted, you do not need to tighten the knobs down hard, just snug enough to prevent them from moving out of adjustment.

  • Adjustments

    • The knob screws release the brackets allowing the windshield to slide and tilt. These knobs must always be tightened securely before riding and DO NOT attempt to adjust the brackets while riding! Also make sure that you do not set the windshield in such a way that causes your handlebars or hand guards (if installed) to hit the windshield when turning, before reaching full lock.
    • To adjust, loosen the knobs 1-2 turns and raise or lower the windshield so the top edge is at about your chin level as you look straight ahead while seated on the bike. Tilt the shield to set the angle at approximately 60 degrees. (Use the angle guide on the back page of this manual as a guide.) Tighten the knobs and go for a ride to see if you now have smooth airflow over and around your helmet.
    • To try a different windshield position, bring the motorcycle to a complete stop and out of traffic. Loosen the two knob screws and tilt the windshield forward or back 2-3 degrees or so, and/or adjust it up or down if necessary. Re-tighten the knobs and go for another ride. Continue experimenting with different positions at different speeds until you find a combination of height and rake angle that eliminates buffeting and gives a smoother ride.
