Product Usage Instructions
- Step 1: Unpack the machine and check the components
- Follow the Quick Setup Guide to unpack the machine and ensure that you have all the necessary components.
- Step 2: Remove the packing materials and install the toner cartridge
- Remove the orange part from the toner cartridge.
- Install the toner cartridge into the machine.
- Step 3: Load paper in the paper tray
- Adjust the paper guides in the paper tray to fit the size of the paper you are using.
- Step 4: Connect the power cord and turn on the machine
- Connect the AC Power Cord to the machine and plug it into a power outlet. Press the power button to turn on the machine.
- Step 5: Select your language (Only for certain models)
- Press the up or down arrow buttons to select “General Setup” and then press OK.
- Press OK to select “Local Language”.
- Press the up or down arrow buttons to select your preferred language and then press OK.
- Step 6: Connect the machine to your computer/mobile device
- To connect your machine to your computer/mobile device, follow the on-screen instructions until the Connection Type screen appears.
- For USB Connection
- If you are using a USB connection, connect a USB cable (USB 2.0 cable Type A/B) between your machine and computer.
- For Wired Network Connection
- If you are using a wired network connection, connect a straight-through Category 5 (or greater) twisted-pair cable to your machine and network.
- For Wireless Network Connection
- If you are using a wireless network connection, follow the on-screen instructions to set up the wireless connection. It is recommended to prepare a USB cable to use temporarily during the wireless setup.
- One-push wireless setup for mobile devices (Wireless models only)
- If your wireless LAN access point/router supports automatic wireless (one-push) setup (WPS/AOSSTM), you can set up your machine without using a computer. Press the WPS or AOSSTM button on your wireless LAN access point/router and then press the WiFi button on your machine.
- Print using your mobile device
- To print using your mobile device, download Brother iPrint&Scan from solutions.brother.com/ips. Before using your machine with your mobile device, make sure to download Brother iPrint&Scan.

USB cable
We recommend using a USB 2.0 cable (Type A/B) that is no more than 2 meters (6

Network cable
Use a straight-through Category 5 (or greater) twisted-pair cable for a 10BASE‑T or 100BASE‑TX Fast Ethernet Network.

- The wireless setup is now complete.
