STEP2 4323 Classic Coaster Extreme Instruction Manual
INTENDED FOR USE BY CHILDREN FROM AGES 3-8 YEARS.
OBSERVE ALL STATEMENTS AND WARNINGS TO REDUCE THE LIKELIHOOD OF SERIOUS OR
FATAL INJURY.
SAVE THIS SHEET FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
WARNING:
CHOKING HAZARD
Small parts & sharp points present before assembly.
Adult assembly required.
WARNING:
Only for family domestic outdoor use by children from ages 3 to 8 years old.
Maximum user weight: 80 lbs (36,28 kg) per child.
WARNING: BURN HAZARD
- Always check the temperature of the product before letting your children play with it.
- Remember that the product may cause burns if left in direct sunlight.
- Always be aware of the sun and weather conditions, and do not assume that the equipment is safe because the air temperature is not very high.
WARNING: STRANGULATION HAZARD
Serious injury or death can occur.
- DO NOT attach jump ropes, clothes lines, pet leashes or other loose hanging items not specifically designed for use with this equipment.
- DO NOT allow children to wear scarves, mittens with cords through the sleeves, or clothing such as capes, ponchos, or items with drawstrings at the neck.
- DO NOT allow children to wear helmets while playing on equipment.
- DO NOT allow children to wear items around their necks such as necklaces, canteens, purses and binoculars.
WARNING: SERIOUS HEAD INJURY OR DEATH CAN OCCUR
Falls to a hard surface can result in serious injury or death.
Do not install playground equipment over hard surfaces such as concrete
asphalt, packed earth, grass, carpet or any other hard surface. Adult
supervision required.
WARNING: FALL HAZARD:
To Avoid Serious Injury.
- Set up track in a protected environment away from traffic, steep inclines, pools and other bodies of water.
- Always supervise child(ren) to ensure they use product safely.
SAFETY INFORMATION
-
Create an obstacle-free site to reduce injury. Maintain a minimum distance of 6.5 feet (2 m) from structures or obstructions (examples: a fence, buildings, garages, houses, low hanging branches, tree stumps/roots, large rocks, bricks, concrete, laundry lines, or electrical wires.)
-
Choose a level location for the equipment to reduce the likelihood of the play set tipping over and loose fill surfacing materials from washing away during heavy rains.
-
Fall Height: 39 inches (1m). DO NOT install product or surfacing material over concrete, asphalt, packed earth, grass, carpet or any other hard surface. A fall onto a hard surface can result in serious injury. Playground Surfacing Materials guidelines for acceptable fall protection are included In this instruction sheet (see table X3.1). To maintain the appropriate level of loose fill material, use containment, such as digging out around the perimeter and/or lining it with landscaping edging. Installations of rubber tiles or poured-in-place surfaces (other than loose-fill materials) generally require a professional and are not “do- it- yourself”projects.
-
Locate equipment out of direct sunlight to reduce the likelihood of serious burns. If the equipment faces north, it will be more likely to receive the least direct sunlight.
-
The exit area of the track will need to be longer than 6.5 feet (2 m).
This distance varies depending on the users’ weight. Caregivers will need to carefully evaluate this distance to make sure there is enough room to safely stop the car. -
Separate this play area from other play activity areas such as basketball hoops, sandboxes and swing sets.
-
Check to be sure all connections are tight. DO NOT allow children to play on the product until it is fully assembled.
-
DO NOT remove any screws once installed. For disassembly, only remove parts not secured by screws.
-
DO NOT over-tighten screws or they will not hold parts together appropriately.
-
Take notice that screws are designed to pierce the plastic and form their own threads.
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
- Limit: 1 children. Maximum user weight: 80 lbs (36,28 kg).
- Dress children appropriately, including wearing well-fitting shoes that fully protect feet.
- INSTRUCT CHILDREN:
- Keep hands, arms and feet inside the car while riding down the track.
- Always ride facing forward.
- Never use Coaster Car separate from track.
- Always wear shoes during use.
- NEVER ALLOW CHILDREN TO:
- Use the equipment in a manner other than intended,
- Climb on equipment when it is snow-covered or wet.
- Use this product when temperatures fall below 32ºF (0ºC).
Plastic materials may become brittle and crack.
MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
- Inspect the product periodically for loose or damaged components. At the beginning of each season, re-install any plastic parts, such as slide, etc., that may have been removed and stored during the winter months. Check the following items at the beginning of each season at least twice monthly during the usage:
- All connections and bolts for tightness, Tighten as required.
- All coverings and bolts for sharp edges and replace when required.
- The condition of the equipment. Look for signs of wear and tear such as broken or missing components.
- Take indoors or do not use when the temperature drops below 32ºF (0ºC).
- Rake surfacing periodically to prevent compaction and maintain appropriate depths.
- Owners shall be responsible for maintaining the legibility of the warning labels and for children removing the warning label from the product.
- DO NOT allow children to play on the product until it is completely installed.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
General Cleaning:
- Use a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water.
DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS
Disassemble so that no unreasonable hazards exist. Please recycle when possible. Disposal must be in compliance with all government regulations.
INSPECT THIS PRODUCT BEFORE EACH USE. TIGHTLY SECURE CONNECTIONS AND REPLACE DAMAGED OR WORN COMPONENTS. CONTACT THE STEP2 COMPANY FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS.

- X3.1 The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that about 100,000 playground equipment related injuries resulting from falls to the ground surface are treated annually in U.S. hospital emergency rooms.
Injuries involving this hazard pattern tend to be among the most serious of all playground injuries, and have the potential to be fatal, particularly when the injury is to the head. The surface under and around playground equipment can be a major factor in determining the injury-causing potential of a fall. It is self evident that a fall onto a shock absorbing surface is less likely to cause a serious injury than a fall onto a hard surface.
Playground equipment should never be placed on hard surfaces such as concrete or asphalt and while grass may appear to be acceptable it may quickly turn to hard packed earth in areas of high traffic. Shredded bark mulch, wood chips, fine sand or fine gravel are considered to be acceptable shock absorbing surfaces when installed and maintained at a sufficient depth under and around playground equipment.
- X3.2 Table X3.1 lists the maximum height from which a child would not be expected to sustain a life-threatening head injury in a fall onto five different loose-fill surfacing materials if they are installed and maintained at a depth of 9 in. However, it should be recognized that all injuries due to falls can not be prevented no matter what surfacing material is used.
- X3.3 It is recommended that a shock absorbing material should extend a minimum of 6.5 ft. in all directions from the perimeter of stationary equipment such as climbers and slides. However, because children may deliberately jump from a moving swing, the shock absorbing material should extend in the front and rear of swing a minimum distance of 2 times the height of the pivot point measured from a point directly beneath the pivot on the supporting structure.
- X3.4 This information is intended to assist in comparing the relative shock-absorbing properties of various materials. No particular material is recommended over another. However, each material is only effective when properly maintained. Materials should be checked periodically and replenished to maintain correct depth as determined necessary for your equipment. The choice of a material depends on the type and height of the playground equipment, the availability of the material in your area, and its cost.
