OPERATION
Instructions for Use
- Unfold the solar charger and angle the four solar panels toward the sun.
- Ensure each solar panel receives full and direct sunlight. Depending on the angle of sunlight, you may either need to lay the panel flat on the ground or use the panel’s kickstands.
- Wait 5 seconds – the red LED light on the junction box will illuminate when solar energy is available to charge your device.
- Connect the solar charger to the electronic device using a power output cable.
- Confirm with your device’s charging signal to ensure it is a receiving charge.
USB-C Power Delivery
The solar charger’s USB-C port supports Power Delivery (PD), which is a
protocol that provides faster and more flexible charging. The solar charger
and device will “negotiate” an optimal and compatible rate of charge which
both the charger and device support, and then the charger will adjust the
output voltage and current accordingly. When charging PD compatible devices
via the charger’s USB-C port, ensure each panel is angled directly toward the
sun and receives full sunlight. Otherwise, disruptions to charging or reduced
performance may occur.
Splitter Cable
A splitter cable has been included for your convenience. The cable’s main
branch cable and plug are designed to connect to the solar charger. There are
three separate branch cables and plugs: (1) DC5521, (2) XT60 and (3) Anderson.
To use, first connect the main cable’s plug to the solar charger’s DC port.
Then connect the appropriate branch cable plug into the electronic device.
NOTE: the gauge of the splitter cable is 18AWG with a maximum operating
current of 4 amps.
DC Plug Adapters
If your device has a DC plug with a size different than 5.5 mm x 2.1 mm, a set
of plug adapters has also been included. In this case, determine the correct
size plug adapter that is compatible with the device, attach the plug adapter
to the DC5521 branch cable plug, then plug into your electronic device.
Tips & Troubleshooting
- When the solar charger is connected as instructed above and your device does not receive a charge, try the following: (1) Disconnect and re-connect the output cable from the solar charger and device; (2) ensure the ports on the solar charger and device are clean and free of debris; (3) adjust the angle of the solar charger so it receives full and direct sunlight.
- Ensure each panel is directly facing the sun. Windows, screens, partial shade and indirect sunlight can reduce performance and power output.
- When charging via USB-C, ensure each panel is angled directly toward the sun. If direct sunlight conditions are not possible, charge via the USB-A port.
- The solar charger can charge multiple devices simultaneously. However, when charging large devices that use most of the available power, multiple device charging may not be possible. In such an event, the solar charger will determine which device(s) to prioritize and charge first.
- When using the DC5521 port, for the safety of the device being charged, ensure this charger’s Open Circuit Voltage is within the device’s acceptable range of input voltage. If the solar charger’s Open Circuit Voltage is outside of the device’s accepted range of input voltage, the device will either block the input charge or reduce the rate of charge to a safe level, and damage to the device may result. Please check with the device’s manufacturer for the appropriate input voltage that it can receive.
- While the solar charger can directly charge your device, it does not itself store solar power for later use. We recommend using a power bank or power station to store the power generated by the solar charger.
MAINTENANCE
Clean the surface of the solar panel when needed. Always use a soft sponge or
cloth for cleaning. A mild, non-abrasive cleaning detergent may be used to
remove stubborn dirt. Don’t clean when the panel surface is hot. Clean solar
panels more frequently
during drier months, as they may become covered in dust more quickly. A
pressure washer is not recommended.
