CD-RECEIVER
INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Take the time to read through this instruction manual.
Familiarity with installation and operation procedures will help you obtain
the best performance from your new cassette-receiver.
For your records
Record the serial number, found on the back of the unit, in the spaces
designated on the warranty card, and in the space provided below. Refer to the
mode! and serial numbers whenever you call upon your KENWOOD dealer for
information or service on the product.

Safety precaution
WARNING
Take the following precautions to prevent fire and avoid personal injury :
- Press in the faceplate until it is firmly locked to the main unit to prevent it from being detached in an accident.
- When extending the power supply cable, memory backup cable, or ground cable, use 0.75mm’ (AWG 18) or larger automotive grade cable to avoid cable deterioration or damage to the covering.
- Check that no metal objects (ccins, tools, etc.) are left inside the unit to avoid short circuits.
- If you smell or see smoke, turn the power off immediately and consult your Kenwood dealer.

- This equipment may generate or use radio frequency energy. Changes or modifications to this equipment may cause harmful interference unless the modifications are expressly approved in the instruction manual. “he user could lose the authority to operate this equipment if an unauthorized change or modification is made.
CAUTION
Take the following precautions to keep the unit in proper working order.

Be sura the unit is connected toa 12V OC power supaly with a negative ground connection. .

Do not open the top or bottom cover.

Do not install the unit in places it is exposed to direct sunlight, high heat or humidity, water may splash over ‘t, or dust exists. .

Do not store the detached faceplate or faceplate storage case in places itis exposed to direct sunlight or high heat.

Do not splash water on the faceplate.

The faceplate is a precision piece of equipment that contains sensitive parts.
Do not subject it to excessive shock. -
If you need to repiaca the fuse, make sure the new fuse is of the same typend rating. Using a fuse of a different type of rating may damage your unit. fuse rating is normally shown on the fuse and fuse box.

Check that no unconnected cables or connectors are touching the car body. Do not remove caps fram unconnected cables or connectors to prevent short circuits.

Connect the speaker cables to appropriate speaker connectors separately, Sharing the negative cable of the speaker or grounding speaker cables to the metal body of the ca‘ can cause this un’t to fail.

After installation, check that the brake Jamps, winkers, and wipers work properly.

- If you have difficulty in installing this unit in yaur vahicle, contact your Kenweocd dealer. ;
- If it doesn’t seem to be working proper! . first press the Reset ULTON Xeae-3b0 only) If the malfuncticn persists, consult your Kenwood dealer.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This unit is NOT designed to be connected directly to CD changer that are
manufactured and sold before 1994.
If you plan to use such units, please read the following information
carefully.
- To control KDC-C200 / KDC-C300 / KDC-C400 A CA-DS100 (sold separately as an optional accessory), along with the control box and extension cord supplied with the CD changer, are required.
- To control / KDC-C30t / KDC-C600 / KDC- Cee / KDC-C601 / KDC-C401 A CA-DS100 (sold separately as an optional eccessory), along with the extension .supplied with the CD changer, are required.
- KDG-C100 / KDG-C302 / 6205 / C705 and CD changer Manufactured by Other Companies These CD changer cannot be connected to this unit.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TC THIS UNIT AND THE CD CHANGER
Be careful with your tapes.
- Befcre loading 4 cassette, take up any slack tape. By turning one of the spools with a pencil. Loading a slack tape can cause tape to tangle around the capstan and pinch roller and ether problems.
- Dc not use any deformed cassettes or cassettes with labels coming off, or the unit may fail.
- Do not leave cassettes exposed to high heat {for example, on the dashboard where it is exposed to direct sunlight, or near heater outlets). This can deform the cassette shell.
- Avoid long cassettes, such as 120- minute tapes. The tape is thin and easily tangled around the pinch roller or other parts.
- If you do not listen to your tape, remove it trom the unit and store it safely. Ifa cassette is left in for a long time, the tape can stick to the tape head, causingfailure.
Cleaning the unit
- If the front panel is dirty, wipe it clean with a silicon cloth or soft dry cloth with the power off.
CAUTION
Do not use hard cloths or paint thinner, alcohol, or othe: volatile solvents.
These may damage external surfaces o¢ remove indicator characters.
Cleaning the taps head
- As you play tapes for a long time, magnetic dust and other grime accumulates around the heads and eventually causes noise that towers sound quality. To clean the heads, use a cleaning tape or cleaning kit. Make sure you purchase a cleaning tape or . cleaning kit suited to car audic use.
To remove the unit

Remove the Screws with washer (M4 x 8) holding on the back panel.

Insert the Removal tool into the slot in the unit and pull out the unit. The lock is released and the unit is detached.

Pull out the Removal tool by pressing down the locking tabs on the top using a screwdriver,

Function of the KRC-380
Playing CDs with the CD auto changer
To play a CD in the CD autochanger, first oject fhe cassette if one is foaded.
To start the CD, briefly press 5 ; to stop it, briefly prass 5 again.
Forward/Backward
To skip forward through the tracks, hold button 8 down; to skip backward,
hold button 7 down. .
Track search
To skip to the next track, briefly press button 5. To Pay the current
track from the beginning again, briefly press button 7.
Dise search
To skip to the naxt higher disc in the autochanger, press button 4 ; to
skip to the next lower, press button 3.
Track/Disc repeat
To endlessly play the current track or disc, press 5 . Each time you press
5. the Repeat function changes from Repeat off to rack repeat to Disc
repeat and back to Repeat off.
Track scan

To play the first ten seconds of each track on the disc you’re listening to, press 2.
-
When you find the track you like, press 2 again. Track scan will ba cancelled and play resumes from there onwards.
Disc scan
-
To play the first ten seconds of the first track on each disc in – the disc magazine, press 10.
-
Whan you find the disc you like, press 10 again. Cisc scan will Se cancelled and play resumes from there onwards.
Random play
-
To make the auto changer randomly select tracks from the disc you’re listening to, press 1.
-
To skip a track you don’t like and go to the next randomly selected track, press 5 once.
-
To cancel Random play, press 1.
Magazine randam play
-
To make the autcchanger randomly select tracks from all the discs |n it, prass button 9.
-
To skip a track you don’t lika and get a new random sé.ection, press button 8 .
-
To cancel Magazine Random play, press button 9 again. The autochanger will revert to normal play.
Installation
ACCESSORIES
To install in the Japanese car
When installing in some cars made in Japan, drive Machine screws (M5 x 6)
(accessories) into the two holes corresponding to the car bracket.
To play a cassette
To play a cassette, insert it into the cassette slot 2.
To fast-forward
To fast-forward the tape, press 4 until it locks. To stop the fast-
forward, oress 3.
To rewind
To rewind the tane, press 3 uniil it locks. To stop the fewind, press
4.
To switch sides
To play the other side of the cassette, press 3 and 4 together.
Ta stop and eject
To eject the cassette, oress 1.
Tuner call
‘The Tuner call function automatically lats you hear what’s on the radio whilo
fast-forwarding or rewinding.
To’tum iton, press 6. To tu it off, press 5 again.
Band select .
To change the band, briefly press button 3. Each time you press the
button, the band changes from FM1 to FM2 to FM3 and back to FM1. To change to
AM, press button 2.
Auto seek tuning
- Turn the Auto-seek tuning function on by pressing button 5.
- To automatically lock on to the next stavon u P the band, press button 7. To automatically tock on to the next station down the band, press button 6.
Manual tuning
- Tum the Auto-seek tuning function off by pressing button 5.
- To increase the frequency, press button 7 to decrease it, press button 6.
Station preset memory
- Select the band and frequancy you want to preset.
- Hold down for at least two seconds whichever of 1 you want to assign to the station.
- Selecting preset stations .
To select a preset staticn, briefly press 1 assigned to the station you wart.
Auto memory entry
To automatically preset the six strongest Stations in the band you te in, hold
button 4 down jor at least two seconds.
To salact a preset station, briefly prass the preset station button (bank 1)
assigned to the station you want.
CRSC(Clear Reception System Circuit)
To turn the CASC on, hold button 3 down for at least a second when
listening to an FM station. To turn it off, hold the button down egain for at
least a second.
Local seek
To turn the Local Seek function on, briefly press button 4 to turn it off,
briefly press the button again,
Channel space selection
- Turn the power off.
- Hold down1 ‘s “1” and “5” and turn the power on,
This changes the channel space to 50 KHz for FM and 9 kHz for AM. To change the channel space back to 200 kHz for FM and 10 kHz fos AM, repeat steps 1 and
Connection
CAUTION
- Some CD autochangers requre 3 conversion cord for connection. See the “Safety pracautions” for details.
- Insulate unconnected encs of ords with vinvl tape or llmflar
Power ON/OFF
To switch the power on, press contro: © to switch it off, press the control ©
again.
Volume
To increase the volume, turn © clockwise; to decrease it, tum
©counterclockwise.
Balance
To move the stereo image to the right, pull contro! © out and turn it
clockwise; to move the image to the left, pull the control © out and turn it
counterclockwise.
Fader
To move the sounc field to the rear, turn a upward; to move it to the front,
turn a downward.
Treble
To boost the treble, push contrel b in and «urn it clockwise; to cut the
treble, push the control b in and turn it counterclockwise.
Bass
To boost the bass, turn control b clockwise without pushing it in; to cut the
bass, turn_the control b .__. coutercloskwise without pushing it in.
Loudness
KRC-2380
To turn the Loudness function on press g to turn it off, press g again.
KRC-3380
To turn the Loudness function on, hold g down fer at least a second; to turn
it off, hold g down again for at leasta second .
Clock display
To change the information shown on the display, press f. Each time you press f, the display changes as shown in the table helow.

Setting the clock
To set the clock, hold f down and press button h to set the hour, and
press button i to set the minute.
Release the button to rastart the clock.
Theft deterrent faceplate
To detach the faceplate, press button j.
Disabled system indicator
1. Turn the power off. .
2. Hold down buttons d and a and turn the power on. The LED does not blink
when the faceplate is detached, When the same operation is performed . again,
the LED blinks when the faceplate is detached.
Priority radio preset
When you press bution ®, you can receive a preset frequency in all modes. When
you tune to the station you want when the Priority radio preset is ON, the
frequency to be recalled is modified. :
