Set Up the Smart Light Bulb

You can set up the smart light bulb with the QR code on the Quick Setup Guide (recommended), QR code on the light bulb, or without a QR code.

Set up with the QR code on the Quick Setup Guide (recommended)

  1. Download the latest version of Alexa app from the app store, and log in.
  2. Screw in the light bulb, then turn on the light.
  3. In the Alexa app, tap More from the bottom menu, then tap Add a Device.
  4. Tap Light, then tap Amazon Basics.
  5. Follow the steps in the Alexa app to complete setup. When prompted, scan the QR codes on the back of this Quick Setup Guide for each bulb.

Alternative setup methods

Option 1: Set Up with the Light Bulb’s QR Code
Use these instructions if you don’t have the Quick Setup Guide.

  1. Download the latest version of Alexa app from the app store, and log in.

  2. Turn off the light and unscrew the light bulb from the socket.

  3. In the Alexa app, tap More from the bottom menu, then tap Add a Device.

  4. Tap Light, tap Amazon Basics.

  5. Scan the QR code on the light bulb when prompted by the app.

  6. Screw the light bulb back into the socket and turn on the light.

  7. Follow the steps in the Alexa app to complete setup.

Option 2: Set Up without the Barcode
Use these instructions if the QR code setup does not work.

  1. Screw in the light bulb, then turn on the light.
  2. In the Alexa app, tap More from the bottom menu.
  3. Tap Light, then tap Amazon Basics.
  4. When prompted to scan the barcode, tap DON’T HAVE A BARCODE?
  5. Tap NEXT, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.

Using the Smart Light Bulb

  • To use the Alexa app, tap Devices from the bottom menu, then tap Lights.
  • Use the voice control on your Amazon Alexa. (For example, “Alexa, turn on living room light.”)

Changing the Light Style
To change the light color, light temperature, or brightness:

  • Use the Alexa app.
    OR

  • Use the voice control on your Amazon Alexa. For example, you could say:

  • “Alexa, set living room light to blue.”

  • “Alexa, set living room light to warm white.”

  • “Alexa, set living room light to 50%.”

Changing Settings with Alexa
Use the Alexa app to rename a light, add lights to a group/room, or set up routines that automatically turn a light on or off.
Resetting to Factory Defaults

  • Delete your light bulb from the Alexa app to factory reset the bulb.
    OR

  • Use a light switch to quickly turn the light on and off five times. When you turn the light on the sixth time, the bulb flashes quickly five times, then flashes twice softly. This indicates that the bulb has been factory reset, and it is ready for setup again.

Troubleshooting

If the smart light bulb is not functioning properly, try the following solutions.

Light bulb does not turn on
Solutions

  • Make sure that the light switch is turned on.
  • If installed in a lamp, make sure that it is plugged into a working power outlet.

Problem
Alexa app cannot find or connect to the smart light bulb
Solutions

  • Make sure that you scan the QR code on the Quick Setup Guide or the QR code at the bottom of the light bulb during setup. Do not scan the barcode on the packaging for setup.
  • Make sure that your phone/tablet and the Alexa app are updated to the latest software version.
  • Make sure that your phone/tablet and smart LED light bulb are connected to the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. The bulb is not compatible with 5GHz networks.
  • If you have a dual Wi-Fi router and both network signals have the same name, rename one and try reconnecting to the 2.4GHz network.
  • Make sure that your phone/tablet is within 30 ft. (9m) of the smart light bulb.
  • Do a factory reset. See “Resetting to Factory Defaults.”

  • You can do a factory reset by deleting your device from the app.

Problem
If I lose the Quick Setup Guide or no barcode is available, how can I set up my smart light bulb?
Solutions

  • You can set up your device via two alternative setup methods. The instructions can be found in “Alternative setup methods” on page 5.

Error code (-1 :-1 :-1 :-1) displays on the screen.
Solutions

  • Make sure your phone has Bluetooth turned on throughout the entire setup process and the device you are trying to setup is in pairing mode. Restart your device by powering it off and on, and then set it up again.

Although libwebsockets is available under a permissive license, it does not change the reality of dealing with large lumps of external code… if your copy diverges it is guaranteed to contain security problems after a while and can be very  painful to pick backports (especially since historically, we are very hot on cleaning and refactoring the codebase).
