CARE & MAINTAINING GUIDE

Teak Wood Cutting Board with Hand Grip

BEEFURNI cutting boards are pre-seasoned with food safe oil before delivery so it might come a bit oily. However, it won’t be a problem as we wrapped the cutting board in pelure paper to absorb excess oil and limit rancidity.
BEFORE THE FIRST USE
We suggest you apply a good amount of mineral oil to the entire surface of the board and let it soak in overnight. Then simply wash it, air-dry and enjoy your cooking. This process helps to properly moisturize the cutting board after a long delivery process.
HOW TO CLEAN
Hand wash with a sponge and warm soapy water after every use. Always wash both sides to prevent swelling. Then, wipe down the board with a towel and let it air dry thoroughly before storing. Stand it upright on its edge or lean it against the wall.
HOW TO MAINTAIN
Even though Teak wood has natural oils, we recommend oiling your board at least once a month with mineral oil or beeswax to prevent cracks, warps or splits. Use a soft cloth to apply a smooth layer of oil or beeswax all over the cutting board’s surface and sides. Let it soak in, preferably overnight or for at least 3 hours. Add more coating if the cutting board still seems dry.
HOW TO REMOVE KNIFE MARKS
With time, teak cutting boards will get knife marks and chips. You can easily fix this by sanding the board with 320-grit or higher sandpaper, sanding along the grain. Wash it, let it dry, and finish with mineral oil or beeswax for moisturising.
HOW TO REMOVE ODOR & STAINS
To remove food odor, wash the board in warm soapy water. Then sprinkle 1-2 spoons of salt or baking soda on the board. Use half a lemon to rub all over the surface for 5-6 minutes. Rinse the board thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before storing.
CAUTION

  1. Don’t put it in the dishwasher
  2. Don’t submerge it in a sink full of water
  3. Use both sides of the cutting board to prevent warping

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1. Are your boards pre-finished? Why is there orange/yellow color coming off this board when I clean it? I’m afraid it might come in my food.

All our boards are prefinished with natural plant-based oil which is food-safe and non-toxic for everyday use. This natural oil has undergone rigorous testing and got FDA certified. As this cutting board oil is all-natural, it might have a yellowish tint. When you clean the cutting board for the first few times, this color may come off, and it might be the cutting board’s natural Teak oil as well. This is completely normal and safe for food prep. It might take a few washes to remove the extra oil, but it's definitely not a health concern.

Q2. My cutting board is getting splintered after washing. Is it a defective product?

We don’t finish the cutting board with any chemical coating so it’s completely normal for it to be splintery after washing, as it is the natural reaction of wood grains coming in contact with water (which is known as “grain rising”). It is not ruined and can be easily fixed by following this process: 1. Wash the board with warm soapy water, and make sure it's completely dry before moving on (overnight drying is best). 2. Use 320-grit sandpaper to sand the board along the grain for 4-5 minutes. Be careful and wear gloves to protect your hands. After sanding, wash off the wood dust, let it dry. 3. Apply mineral oil or beeswax evenly over the surface using a clean, soft cloth. Let it soak in for at least 3 hours. You can repeat this process if you feel that the board is still dry. Allow the board to sit for 24 hours to let the oil absorb properly.

Q3. My cutting board is warped, it can’t sit flat on the table. How to fix it?

Warping is actually a very common issue of any wood cutting boards. It results from insufficient oil and dry environment. To fix warping, please consider these solutions: 1. Evenly apply mineral oil to both sides and place the warped side upwards and let it sit for 48 hours, then check if the warping issue is fixed. 2. Simply attach non slip rubber feet for cutting boards at four corners to prevent sliding and enhance extra stability. You can easily buy those feet on Amazon. To prevent warping from happening again, please carefully follow our instructions for care and maintenance above. Always keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme heat.
