System requirements
- Mac computer (Mac Pro, iMac Pro, MacBook Pro, or Mac Mini) running macOS 10.15.7, macOS 11 or macOS 12.
- 125MB disk space for Codex Platform with Device Manager, including all required and optional drivers.
- CODEX media station, such as Capture Drive Dock or Compact Drive Reader.
- If using Capture Drive Dock (SAS), an ATTO H680 or H6F0 card is required along with the ATTO SAS driver for macOS.
Prerequisites
Before commencing the installation of CODEX Platform and Device Manager,
ensure there are no pending updates for macOS that will be installed the next
time the system is rebooted.
Installation
The steps below must be completed in order for the CODEX Platform and Device
Manager software to function correctly.
-
Open the downloaded file vault-6.1.0-05837-codexplatform.pkg. Follow the installer prompts to proceed with software installation.
-
Any items that are not already installed will be selected by default, with the exception of the ATTO SAS driver. If using a classic Transfer Drive Dock (model CDX-62102-2 or CDX-62102-3) the ATTO SAS driver is required. Early models require the H608 driver, and later models require the H1208GT driver. If you are unsure which driver is needed for your classic Transfer Drive Dock then install both drivers:
The Installer now includes the commercially licensed X2XFUSE in place of the previous FUSE for macOS. X2XFUSE is a core dependency of the CODEX software and therefore is installed automatically, and does not appear in the Installer dialogue or in System Preferences. X2XFUSE is used exclusively by the CODEX software – if you have other applications that depend on FUSE for macOS then this should be installed separately. -
For new installations you will be prompted to open Security & Privacy System Preferences to allow the software to run.
All included system extensions are signed by with the exception of the Compact Drive Reader Firmware Update Utility, which is signed by “JMicron Technology Corp. Click Open Security Preferences to access System Preferences > Security & Privacy, then click the padlock and enter your password, before clicking Allow. A pop-up will then appear where you should select Not Now (rather than Restart). Depending on the number of new drivers being installed, and the macOS version, you may need to click Allow followed by Not Now multiple times to grant permission to all drivers, before finally selecting Restart (from within Security & Privacy): -
When the installation completes you will be prompted to Restart the Mac. After rebooting the following dialogue will be shown for fresh installations:
-
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy, click the padlock and enter your password, then scroll down to Full Disk Access and click the box for ‘drserver’:
Click the padlock again and then close the Security & Privacy window. -
If you were not prompted to Restart at the end of the installation, then it is recommended to Restart manually.
-
Device Manager is a menu bar app that is accessible at the top of your screen after installation.
-
If there are any issues with loading of media, confirm that the CODEX Server is running from System Preferences Codex.
