*** FT1380-2-9 requires 16 springs, and the FT1380-2-9A requires eight springs.

Die Cage Part Number Marking

Aeroquip die cage repair kits include a front plate. The entire part number is stamped on this plate, except for the die suffix number. The die suffix number should be added by stamping or etching it into the plate prior to assembling the die cage. This suffix number will be the same as the number on the individual dies enter ing the cage.

  1. Determine the suffix number following the FT1380-100 on the crimp dies being assembled. (For example, for FT1380-100-M240 dies, the suffix number is M240)

  2. Support the iron plate securely with four dies as shown below and stamp or etch this number after the FT1380-20X. (See figure 1)

  3. Rub white paint into the stamped or etched number.

  4. Using tabs, position the backplate underneath and away from the assembler.

  5. Place two spacers under the two sides of the backplate without tabs to prevent it from tipping over when installing the dies.

Die Cage Rebuild Kit Assembly

  1. Disassemble the existing die cage. The only items needed for the new cage are the eight individual dies. All other components required for the new die cage are included in the die cage repair kit (either FT13802-9 for 3/4-inch wide dies or FT1380-2-9A for 9/16-inch wide dies.)

  2. Discard the existing die cage components.

  3. Prior to assembly, make sure all components are free from dirt and other contaminants. Do not re use any dies that show any sign of damage or excessive wear.

  4. Using tabs, position the Die Cage Rebuild Kit Assembly back plate underneath and away from the assembler.

  5. Place two spacers under the two sides of the back plate without tabs to prevent it irom tipping over when installing the dies. (See figure 2)

  6. Position the spring plate flat on top of the back plate with the tabs facing upward. Align the bolt clearance holes with the threaded holes in the backplate, liberally lubricate the spring plate at all eight die contact locations with Danfoss T-400-G High Efficiency PTFE grease. (See figure 3).

  7. Install the springs into the slots of the spring plate. Push the springs against the inside edge of the slots. (See figures 3 and 5.)

  8. Install the roll pins into the holes in the back side of the dies. Allow 0.11-inch of roll pin to protrude. (Note: Skip this step if the roll pins are preinstalled.)

  9. Install all eight crimp dies within the slots of the spring plate.

  10. Place the front plate on a flat surface with the tabs facing up and lightly lubricate it with Danfoss T-400-G High Efficiency PTFE grease at all eight die con tact locations. (See figure 4)

  11. Position the front plate on top of the crimp dies. The part number must be the topside of the cage.

  12. Carefully remove the two spacers under the back plate and install them along with the other two spacers in line with the tabbed and clearance holes.

  13. Install the four button-head cap screws. Tighten the bolts -to 50 in-lb of torque.

  14. Install the die cage into the Aeroquip FT1380 and complete on crimping cycle.
