Product Usage Instructions

Unpacking and Installation

1. Unpack the machine and remove the protective tape or film covering the machine and the supplies.
2. Install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly by following the provided instructions.

Paper Tray Setup

3. Remove the orange part from the paper tray.
4. Push the paper firmly into the tray.
5. Adjust the paper guides to align with the paper size.
6. Do not exceed the maximum paper mark.

Power Connection

7. Connect the AC power cord to the machine.
8. Turn on the machine using the power button.

Language Selection

9. Press the arrow keys to select “Initial Setup” and press OK.
10. Select “Local Language” and press OK.
11. Select your preferred language and press OK.

5. Computer or Mobile Device Connection

12. Follow the steps below to connect your computer or mobile
    device to the machine:

    • Visit setup.brother.com and download the Brother software.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Network Security

13. Note the default password located on the back of the machine for managing settings.
14. Change the default password immediately for security purposes.

Troubleshooting Network Connection

15. If you are unable to connect, follow these steps:

  *  **For wireless network:**
  * Restart your wireless access point or router.
  * If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
  *  **For wired network USB connection:**
  * Disconnect the cable.
  * Restart both the machine and the computer.
  * If the issue persists, refer to the troubleshooting section on support.brother.com for further assistance.

Manual Wireless Setup (Wireless models only)

18. If the wireless setup is unsuccessful, set up the connection manually.
19. Find your SSID (Network Name) and Network Key (Password) from your wireless access point or router.
20. Enter the SSID and Network Key following the LCD instructions on the machine.
21. If you are unable to find this information, consult your network administrator or wireless access point/router manufacturer.
22. Select the SSID for your access point or router and enter the Network Key.
23. Use the arrow keys to select characters for the Network Key and press OK to confirm.

Unpack the machine and check the components

• If you use a wired connection, you must purchase the correct cable for the interface you want to use.

  • USB cable
    We recommend using a USB 2.0 cable (Type A/B) that is no more than 6 feet (2 meters) long.

  • Network cable (for wired network models only)
    Use a straight-through Category 5 (or greater) twisted-pair cable.

• The screens and images in this Quick Setup Guide show the HL-L2460DW.

• Save all packing materials and the box in case you must ship your machine.

Installation And Using

1. Remove the packing materials and install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly

2. Load paper in the paper tray

3. Connect the power cord and turn the machine on
   NOTE:
   Before connecting the power cord, locate the Serial Number label on the back or side of the machine. Record this number for product registration and warranty support.

4. Select your language (if needed)

5. Press ▼ or ▲ to select [Initial Setup], and then press OK.

6. Press ▼ or ▲ to select [Local Language], and then press OK.

7. Press ▼ or ▲ to select your language, and then press OK.

8. Connect your computer or mobile device to your machine
   Follow these steps to complete the setup using one of the connection types available on your machine.

   • Visit setup.brother.com to download and install Brother software.
   • Follow the on-screen instructions and prompts.
     Setup Finished
     You can now print using your machine.

Important Notice for Network Security:

• The default password to manage this machine’s settings is located on the back of the machine and marked “Pwd”.
• We recommend immediately changing the default password to protect your machine from unauthorized access.

Before connecting your machine to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi® network, confirm the channels that your machine supports. Go to support.brother.com/g/d/a5m6/, select your product, and then click Download for more information.

If the wireless setup is unsuccessful, set up the connection manually.

Find your SSID (Network Name) and Network Key (Password) on your wireless access point or router and write them in the table provided below.

• To select each menu option, press ▲ or ▼, and then press OK to confirm.
  • Select [Network] >
  • [WLAN(Wi-Fi)] >
  • [Find Network].

Follow the LCD instructions.

If you cannot find this information, ask your network administrator wireless access point or router manufacturer.

Select the SSID (Network Name) for your access point or router and enter the Network Key (Password).

Press and hold (or press repeatedly) ▲ or ▼ select one of the following characters:

Go to 5 to install the software.

When the wireless setup is successful, the LCDs [Connected].

• If the setup is unsuccessful, restart your Brother machine and your wireless access point or router, and repeat 6.
