Aim of the guideline
This guideline defines specific standards that Coop requires of business partners with respect to the Uniquely own-label brand.
Scope of the guideline
The guideline applies to unprocessed fruit and vegetables whose external appearance deviates from the Coop standard specifications for size, shape and appearance and which are offered under the Uniquely own-label brand.
Uniquely product requirements
3.1 Culinary properties
The products are in no way negatively affected in terms of culinary quality,
and they must be perfect with regard to sensory characteristics in any case.
3.2 Raw materials requirements
Products which are marketed under the Ünique own-brand deviate from Coop’s
standard specifications with respect to shape and size, i.e., their outward
appearance, and cannot, for this reason, be sold as part of Coop’s standard
product range.
The legal requirements, excluding Coop’s standard specifications with respect
to size, shape and appearance, must be complied with. Under no circumstances
may rotten or mouldy goods be sold under the Ünique brand.
Under the Ünique brand, goods of Swiss origin as well as imported goods
(exclusively from EU countries) may be sold. In general, existing suppliers
are to be considered for the marketing of Ünique products. It is prohibited to
grow produce specifically for marketing under the Ünique brand.

Labelling on packaging
Ünique products are offered both on open sale and packaged. Ünique products on
open sale are identified by stickers on the products and via the freshness
label. Packaged goods are identified as Ünique on the packaging and via the
freshness label. The Guideline on Food Labelling explains how to label
packaging.
Furthermore, a combination of Coop own-label brands with quality seals is
regulated by the strategic programme for brand performance. In particular,
Ünique cannot be combined with other Coop brands or labels. The only exception
is the use of the Bio Bud (domestic and foreign) in products which are
organically farmed. The products are always sold under the Ünique brand, even
when they feature the Bio Bud.
Implementation / checks
The business partner notifies the purchasing department of the Ünique goods
available (incl. sample/image and quantity). The purchasing department then
submits the product to the Quality Centre for evaluation. QA assesses whether
the requirements regarding the Coop own-label brand guideline for Ünique are
met. In the case of new articles, a corresponding standard is drawn up by QA
and sent to the business partner for information. The decision to introduce
the product is the responsibility of Coop Category Management Fruit and
Vegetables.
Checks are carried out as part of the regular Coop QA incoming goods
inspections; the specific Ünique quality standards for fruit and vegetables
apply.
