HOW TO USE THIS PRODUCT?

  • Before using, make yourself familiar with the manual as well as the machine itself. Before any work on the machine, switch off the machine, remove the plug from the mains, and make sure that all moving parts have been stopped completely.
  • Examine the material that you intend to process thoroughly first. Remove all foreign objects that might be ejected by the machine or get stuck in it during processing.
  • Remove the earth from the roots. Do not put foreign objects such as stones, glass, pieces of metal, fibers, or plastic materials into the feed hopper! Shredding knives might be damaged.
  • Always place the machine on a level and firm ground. While operating the shredder, do not lean over or make needless movements.
  • Let the rotating knives of the shredding mechanism reach maximal revolutions and only then feed the material intended for shredding into the feed hopper.

Use the machine solely for shredding the following materials:

  • twigs and branches (max. 40mm diameter)
  • bush cleaning waste
  • hedge cleaning waste
  • rests of plants and other garden waste
  • leaves and roots of plants (remove earth from roots before shredding)
  • Do not feed soft kitchen bio-waste into the machine, put it on the compost heap.
  • If not too bulky, insert the material for processing to the corner of the feed hopper. Knives will pull it inside without further assistance.
  • Only insert as much material as can be fed into the feed opening so as not to get it jammed and blocked
  • WARNING! Longer pieces of material may traverse about and strike you while being pulled into the shredding mechanism. Therefore keep a safe distance from the feed hopper!
  • Ensure the shredded material comes freely out from the discharge chute.
  • For better composting, you can process material in the shredder twice.
  • Do not allow processed material to build up under the discharge chute so that it reaches the shredding mechanism. This would cause blockage of the knives and then of the feed hopper.
  • Organic materials have high water and sap content which may cleave the equipment and clog it up. Therefore you should store it for a few days before shredding and let it dry up. However, above mentioned does not apply to bigger branches which can be optimally processed fresh.
  • If the knives get stopped during shredding, stop the shredder immediately. Then disconnect it from the mains and start to search for the cause of the problem.
  • Remove all processed material remaining from the blades of the knives; then inspect the knives thoroughly to be sure they have not been damaged. Only then go on in shredding.
  • If the blade gets stopped for more than 5 seconds, the machine gets switched off through the overvoltage protection switch. Wait at least 1 minute and let the machine cool down before switching on the machine again.
  • Then push the overvoltage protection switch and follow up the main switch (On/Off) to restart the machine.
  • If the shredding mechanism blade strikes any foreign object or if the machine starts making any unusual noise or abnormal vibration, switch it off immediately and wait till the blade stops rotating and is still in place.

Remove the plug from the mains and then follow the procedure below:

  • Inspect for damage.
  • Replace or repair any damaged parts.
  • Check for and tighten any parts loose because of the incident.
  • If the equipment jams, switch off the machine and wait till the blade has been stopped. Before cleaning the equipment, disconnect the power supply/extension cable plug from the mains.
  • Clean the engine ventilation slots from material remains and other debris; reduce the risk of engine damage and possible fire.
  • Whenever you interrupt your work and leave the workplace, switch off the machine, wait till the shredding mechanism knives stop, and remove the power supply cable plug from the mains.
  • Do not allow processed material to build up in the discharge area. By this, you eliminate the kickback risk that might occur through the feed hopper opening.

Switching on and stopping the shredder

  • Use the main switch (10) to turn the shredder on and off (Fig. 2) – the ON position is marked with “I”, the OFF position with “O”.
  • If the machine does not run, push the “interlock switch” (11) (Fig. 2), and make sure that the machine is connected (the power supply cable plug) to the mains.
  • Let the machine engine run idle for several seconds and only then start shredding.

The interlock switch gets activated under the following circumstances:

  • build-up of shredded material around the shredder roller.
  • the engine capacity overload.
  • processed material resists the shredder roller blades.
  • If the interlock switch was activated, switch off the shredder and disconnect from the mains.
  • Unscrew the control of the reamer at the bottom of the head and open the upper part.
  • Remove the debris or obstacle from the shredding zone.
  • Put the upper part back on and tighten the reamer control.
  • Let the engine at a standstill for several minutes to cool down.
  • Re-connect to the mains and push the interlock switch.
  • To turn on the shredder again, press the main switch (10) (Fig. 2) – position “I”.
  • WARNING! NEVER demount the pressure plate cover adjustment knob without switching off the main switch („On/Off“ button) and disconnecting the power supply cable plug from the mains first.
  • WARNING! The shredder will stop shredding within 5 seconds after switching off by pushing the main switch.

The use of the plunger

  • The plunger serves as an aid when filling the feed hopper with small materials (for instance small twigs, leafage, other garden waste, and greens).

Fill in the feed hopper (Fig. 6)

  • Press the material through a plunger (12) (Fig. 7) towards the blade disk (Fig. 17).
  • Wait until the material is shredded and only then insert the next batch.
  • WARNING! Never allow your fingers inside the feed hopper chute!
  • WARNING! Never use the equipment without the feed hopper!
  • WARNING! Do not lean over the feed hopper!

How to collect the shredded material?

  • Before moving the bag closer or farther, switch off the drive unit.
  • For collecting the material, you can use the collection bag (if it is a part of delivery) or you can place the shredder on a sheet to collect the shredded material
  • If you use the collection bag, you need to attach both hooks of the bag to the discharge chute.
  • WARNING! Do not cover the ventilation slots of the machine body with the collection bag or shredded material.

What to do when replacing knives? (Fig. 8)

  • Switch off the shredder and disconnect from the mains.
  • Take off the upper part of the feed hopper assembly by unscrewing the adjustment knob of the pressure plate cover.
  • The knives are double-sided. If the blade is worn out, it can be upturned and used by the other side.
  • You should wear gloves while handling the knives to replace them.
  • Arrest the shredder roller with the help of a hexagonal wrench (c).
  • Unscrew both inner hexagonal nuts (b), and pay close attention to the knife cutting angle.
  • Take off the knife and turn by 180 degrees (a); position the blade on the roller so that the bottom side points downwards.
  • Follow the same procedure when replacing the other knife.
  • If both blades of the knife are worn out, they must be replaced at the same time.
  • They can be re-sharpened. (Sharpening must be carried out by a skilled specialist.)
  • We do not recommend this solution concerning the fact that the absolute balance of the knives on the roller is highly important for the proper functionality of the machine.
  • The slightest unbalance may result in damage to the machine or even injury to the operating person.

How to maintain the product?

  • WARNING! Make sure the machine is disconnected from the mains while performing maintenance and cleaning.
  • Before a service inspection, storage, or replacement of some part, switch off the engine and disconnect the equipment from the mains.
  • If the extension cable is used, it must not be lighter than the power supply cable belonging to the equipment.
  • Check the power supply cable and in case of need the used extension cable for signs of wear regularly. In the case of damage do not use the equipment.
  • While carrying out any service maintenance of the shredding mechanism, do not forget that the mechanism can be switched on even manually despite of the interlock switch stop. Never deactivate the interlock switch.
  • Remove dirtiness from the equipment with the help of a brush.
  • Always clean the machine after each use. Use soap and a wet rag to clean the plastic parts. Do not use aggressive substances and solvents.
  • Never clean the shredder by the water stream. Keep the equipment protected against water. Use the shredder only with recommended accessories.
